I kind of don't like Jimmy after the Irene shit. Fucking with an old lady like that, broke my heart for her. That's what I call gratuitous violence.
Jimmy is a mostly good guy who can be mischievous. Saul is an asshole who will step on anyone to get what he wants. Both are compelling characters but I'll miss how easy to root for Jimmy was.
I'm thinking a Gus Fring spinoff would have been a better idea. Its an ok show, but I'm disappointed in it overall so far.
People saying a Gus Fring spin off would have been better is missing the point imo. A Gus Fring spin off is pretty much the same show as Breaking bad. why would Vince Giligan wanna make that? You're also getting the Fring prequel here but as a subplot. i dont know what more you want.
The Kim shit was fucking sad. it was clear she was gonna crash for quite some time now, but it still broke my heart.
I do hope we get a little more background on Fring. Perhaps that's the play by Gilligan and his writers though. Keep his origin story mysterious. With the way Gilligan and his team like to work (writing themselves into corners then writing themselves out of them) it's entirely possible they have no concrete idea of Fring's background so unless it supports the ongoing story we won't see anything on it.
Was disappointed in the first 2 seasons. This one was much better. Will say that scenes with Mike/cartel are always better than Saul's storylines. Thought the thing with Irene was kind of silly too, would like to see someone catch on to it. Also still think it's ridiculous for Kim to be Jimmy. She's way out of his league
"best"? weeeelllll....idk, but it wouldn't be a ridiculous argument calling this show not entertaining is a ridiculous argument
Catching up now. Watched slip. Just saw Jimmy become Saul under the bridge, followed by the handshake that starts the Mike and Gus relationship for real. Damn.
I personally think that was one of the best episodes of the series. I loved the scene with Chuck tearing up the house. The catalyst from all this has got to be what Chuck tells Jimmy, which is now the last words Jimmy will ever hear from him.
Ok, damn, couple quick reactionary thoughts Francesca is a treasure So much of the Jimmy and Kim stuff damn near makes me want to cry. You can see how much they care for each other and also watch them realize/acknowledge how this dream they had isn't going to work out. It's heartbreaking. Hope this doesn't sound fucked up, but seeing Kim, this beautiful capable woman, mentally, figuratively, and physically just beaten to shit and STILL being the pillar Jimmy can lean on...god damn I love her. Edit: Yeah, that sounds awful as a quick take. Some context; I thought it was a wonderful storytelling parallel to show Jimmy in his ratty University of American Samoa Law School sweatshirt - a bit more battered, but still functional after 3 seasons of shenanigans - alongside Kim Wexler who represents the relatively greater injuries that people suffer by being in Jimmy's universe...kinda like Chuck implied. Hamlin has slowly grown on me a bit as a character, Fabian gives him charm, and while he's no sort of moral compass, he's pretty authentic as to his goals, which have rarely wavered, and he pushes back when you would logically expect him to. God damn Chuck. That was a much quicker transformation than I'm used to from this show in particular. I know early on Chuck was posited as a catalyst for Jimmy to Saul, but we were offered a lot of other incentives along the way...but I can appreciate if the show want's to come back to it as fundamental. The drastic relapse into suicidal mania is a little out of left field, but I kept thinking Chuck was gonna find bugs that Mike planted and justify his paranoia, but instead... So many good scenes, I loved the contrast (or lack thereof) in terms of consequences when jimmy tries to be honest with Chuck (disaster) and oblique with the old lady (unresponsive) to apologetic with her friends (useless) or with Kim. The pointed focus on regret in his conversation with Chuck and his recognition that it doesn't gain him anything (twice) seems like a really powerful basic axiom for Saul, as it was for Slippin Jimmy when he was talking about coins. And I'd be remiss if I didn't mention Nacho. I can understand a bit now, with hindsight, why they might have pushed a bit of emmy talk in anticipation of these last couple episodes. He did great (and so did his dad) but Gus still stole the show taking control of the situation when Hector finally acts like enough of an asshole to cause his own body to tell him to shut up.
Disagree about this being the best season. Anything with Mike is far superior than any other storyline. His background EP will always be GOAT
I think it was only 3 million that he received at this point, and i doubt he had cashed the check before offing himself
Goes to his estate I assume. And you know that fucker has a will that says his next of kin gets nothing.
Great season. Little disappointed we didn't get anything from Mike in the finale.. Glad Chuck is gone.
2 more seasons of this i would imagine? i hope the finale ends with walt and jessie coming through the door
I think I would prefer the ending of the show to include some episodes of Cinnamon Gene obviously would love to see some Walt/Jesse stuff but I think seeing how he is transitioning after the Breaking Bad events would be very interesting
which is technically almost at the end of season 2, so having saul operate through season 1 parallel to whats happening to walt/jesse, like tuco etc., would be cool
