re: the cops pulling over video Every single cop in the Orlando area knows exactly who she is and hatessssssss her. We generally have good police here but they have been fucking with her as much as they can. Can almost guarantee she has been pulled over many times since she decided to not go for death penalty for the guy who murdered a cop at a Wal-Mart after killing his pregnant fiance. Rick Scott replaced her on the case.
I can't understand how "christians" only care about tax cuts and hurting poor people. blows my mind. I sincerely hope that i see the end of religion in daily life by the time i go. Look how much it fucks up our country.
you think SCOTUS won't rule on social issues, like gay marriage? Gorsuch is right of Scalia who compared gays to pedophiles. The stupidity of people like you has real consequences for actual human beings you pretend to give a shit about.
Wait he just said the Republicans were the minority? Didn't the Dems lose the majority a few years ago? Fucking dumbass.
That's not how any of this works. Conservative justices would (generally) not have allowed gay people to get married. That isn't something that business pressure was going to change. That was an example of the religious right working within the system to outlaw he practice. You can say "the government should stay out of it" all you like, but the government routinely doesn't do that. It routinely oversteps it bounds and caters to special interest groups that want to hurt other Americans. Courts are the check on that and the only real protection that exists for our civil liberties.
thankfully, dumbasses like you were ignored when they passed the 13th, 14th, 15th amendments, civil rights act, and voting rights act.
Is there something there that says how he would vote or does he just say "SCOTUS has ruled it's protected by the constitution" and offer no opinion on the ruling? The justice he explicitly states is his inspiration wrote the dissent in Obergefell.
Yeah. That was just awful and typical and typically awful. Jesus chased the money lenders out of the temple because he thought they should be petitioning Caesar for tax breaks. Also, Jesus told the sick and poor that they should have saved more if they wanted to be healthy.
Nah, his "I'm socially liberal, but believe the federal government doesn't have a role to play in social issues" is completely consistent with the sterling reputation of the states in upholding the 14th Amendment in the absence of federal action.
What social issues are you talking about specifically? The federal government has a much better record then the states on most social issues. Slavery, civil rights, desegregation. You'll want to be careful with the "economically driven" stuff. Slavery was "economically driven" too.
If it appears the bill won't get 50, he will vote no and say that was his position all along. He's a pussy with no convictions.
scalia's dissent in obergerfell is one of the most pathetic things ever written and really perfectly represents the last 10 years of scalia's soctus career inb4 autistic screeching from low iq originalists.
BetterCallSaul thoughts on his dissent in Pavan v Smith where he was joined only by the 2 hard right justices? His vote to hear the gay wedding cake case?
your initial comment said"the federal government", but i'll bite. the SCOTUS has enforced and expanded our citizens' rights based on those pieces of legislation. and it also gutted the voting rights act because ofthe court's conservative judges. saying social issues in this country are "economics driven" is one of the most ignorant and asinine things one can say about this country. it completely ignores our entire history.
I can't understand how republicans can be like "all is fine" in regards to every aspect of America. They act like the president or government don't matter at all. Until it comes to Obamacare. And apparently that is an all encompassing failure that has to be dealt with or this country will crumble. How is it possible to consolidate those conflicting views of the government?
If they wanted to be born with the inalienable right to pursue happiness, they should have lived in a different state.
I hope Saul comes back and enumerates exactly why it's so important to him, the enlightened socially progressive economic moderate, to have a court full of fire breathing right wing corporatists and reactionaries. What issues specifically are important on that front? Are there any cases he could point to as especially meaningful to him?
It is just unbelievable that Stephen Fucking Miller has a voice in crafting the future of this country. The birth rate is falling below the replacement rate, and it's only there because of immigrants. We're going to become like Japan if these shit stain excuses for humans are not removed pronto.
our only hope is that in 2020 president rock sends all their roody poo candy asses to the smackdown hotel* *federal prison

Im not enlightened at all. Working towards that goal but nowhere near it. I don't think I'm going to try to find the answers in this thread anymore. I appreciate the discussions with some of you. I'm honestly rethinking my stances more than I ever have in the past, so truly, thank you. However, the constant insults and 1 step forward, 2 steps back progress in finding common ground and civility with you all is getting old. I can't do it anymore. I'll still lurk, but I'm done participating. Keep fighting the good fight.
Go with God, Saul. I hope you find the enlightenment you seek and understanding of what sympathy for normal Americans actually looks like.
