I was really happy with the draft. I'm really not worried about RB. I'm not saying it will be a strength this year, but the Eagles are still building they're not a finished product. there will be opportunities to find a RB.
Some decent free agents still available... Jamaal Charles Matt Asiata LeGarrette Blount (Led NFL in rushing TDs last year) Christine Michael Khiry Robinson
A bunch of meh options. Pederson obviously has ties to Charles, so if they don't sign him at some point then that says a lot about what state they think he's in. It's just a shame because we move up and get Wentz last year and then we do a half ass job of getting him weapons this offseason. They did well by getting Jefferey. Torrey Smith is good, but not spectacular. Help the fucking kid out if you want him to be a star. Instead we draft a small RB who, at best, is a poor man's Sproles one day and then a couple WRs who likely are going to play well defined, niche roles. And that's if they even make the team. I just look at the skill positions on offense and see Ertz and then a bunch of guys. Alshon is a big piece but he's on a one-year deal so who the hell knows if it works out. All our WRs are on one-year deals essentially or are rookie role players. Maybe this is just me playing devil's advocate, but if you get your franchise QB you should be going all-in on putting as many weapons around him as possible. Think we fell short. It's nothing against the guys we took, because as a whole, I think it's a solid draft. I just wanted to come away with at least one more immediate impact guy on offense to help us because we looked dreadful at times last year.
Already sick to my stomach thinking about 3rd & short situations. Ram Sproles up the middle for no gain?
I think you're overreacting. they went out and signed the top WR on the market, another guy who will be a deep threat, and drafted 3 offensive skill players. you need to be able to play defense as well. giving Wentz weapons will do him no good if the defense can't stop anyone. you're building a team, not an offense for Wentz. he will be fine.
I definitely think obtaining WR who can catch and some speed was priority A1. That's been addressed. A2 was to help fix the defense that was a leaking anus at times. That's certainly up for debate if the draft fixed it but clearly that was the intention. Not like this team is going to run the ball 30 times a game. Finally we are talking about losing Mathews who was as much a liability as he was of value.
there's not really any room for any on the roster. Peters, Johnson, Barbre, Brooks, Kelce, Wisnieski, Warmack, Seumalo, Vaitai. Plus it was a week draft class for tackles, which is where the need at RT will probably be in 2 years.
I think a WR was a need but have you looked at their roster of cornerbacks? Additionally while Alshon is only on a one year deal, significant amounts of dead money come off the books this year they could easily franchise him. Assuming he plays the entire season at or just below he's average stats.
Faint rumors of the Saints approaching the Eagles about trading for Ingram. Read a possible deal centered around Ingram for Kelce, but nothing set in stone
Eagles signed RB LeGarrette Blount, formerly of the Patriots, to a one-year contract. How about this for a late-offseason addition? Blount led the league with 18 rushing touchdowns last season and set a new career-high with 1,161 yards on the ground, but he's already 30. He adds nothing in the pass game, but the Eagles already have Darren Sproles, Wendell Smallwood, and rookie Donnel Pumphrey there. Blount figures to handle all of the first- and second-down work and short-yardage carries in Philly, and this is a great fit in a spread-type offense that Blount also played in with New England. Blount also gets to run behind one of the better offensive lines with the Eagles. This is as about as great of a landing spot Blount could have hoped for, and ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Cardinals also had interest. Blount's addition should lead to Ryan Mathews' release.
Glad that Wendall Smallwood isn't going to get the majority of the carries. Good signing if he can stay healthy
The Chiefs actually did it - they just released Maclin Please Howie, go get him and bring him back. That would really make me feel even better at WR
normally i would hope for that. but i love him 6'4" with 4.5 speed who slipped through the cracks and walked on for us. had to play special teams for a year and eventually made it on the field for the offense. crazy that he slipped through like that
Eagles acquire CB Ronald Darby from Buffalo in exchange for WR Jordan Matthews and a 2018 third-round pick.
Yeah giving up the pick is the part that is hard for me to get past. Darby could definitely be a good one despite having a bit of a slump last year. Only 23 years old.
More eyes than ever going to be on Agholor this season. He's seemed to be receiving a lot of praise so let's see if the light bulb goes off. I'll keep my expectations low. Would be nice if he could become a threat to go with Alshon and Smith and then just hope someone like Hollins turns out to be a nice role player.
I think they said on the broadcast last night that Mills had the most career starts on the team with two.
Entirely new stable of corners. It's really remarkable. If Darby returns to form from his rookie year then we should be able to survive the year and not be awful if any one of Mills, Pat Robinson, or Douglas can be decent. This recent draft is really going to come down to Sidney Jones and whether he can bounce back and be a cornerstone guy. I'm still disappointed on not finding a foundation type RB in the draft, but do like Blount in the short-term. It'll all be put to bed if Jones is the real deal in 2018 and going forward.
I know it's early and the odds are already stacked against him but Pumphrey was less than impressive last night. Also if he keeps running like it's a Thursday Mountain West game he will fucking die on the field in the NFL.
