I think I've decided that my first beer after having this baby is going to be this year's Huna. Next would be the hoppiest, freshest IPA KJROD20 can get his hands on (preferably Tree House or Other Half).

5 1/2 weeks to go... :lick:

That's easier than me buying a case of Kirkland Sauvignon Blanc for my wife.

Wait... it's easier to get a beer that's either a. only sold once a year on-site at an event in Florida, or b. sold on-site on a specific day at one location in NYC/MA with hour long lines; than a case of wine sold at a national big box retailer?

Ha well, Costco is usually out of their Sauv Blanc so it isn't available all the time. And I was more referring to you singling out the first as opposed to stocking up. Those Costco trips can get expensive too.

For those around the Chicago area, Half Acre's Freedom of 78 is great. Seasonal, juicy IPA they release every July.

Gotcha - yeah I mean we have a couple of bottles of this year's Huna downstairs; so technically that one is easier to get in this situation! Definitely hoping the hubs can get to one of the local breweries for some fresh hops beforehand as well.

Oh God, hopefully I'm not on an operating table! lol, but yes - KJROD20 does intend to bring some #whalezbro to the hospital to pop once I pop!

Do any of you try and keep up with all these IPA can releases some these breweries are doing so often? There's a guy I know of that makes it to every damn release from Monkish, Noble, Bottle Logic, and our local releases. I've seen him go from pretty basic/poorer quality selection of beer to the aforementioned like selection within the year or so. He gets a lot of good stuff, but man.. that shit has to be tiring and time consuming! I'm pretty selective with my choices now and I hate standing in lines for these IPAs, no more of that.

With that being said, it kinda sucks for me though because when I actually DO want to try things like Tired Hands, Trillium, The Veil, etc etc, I don't have the goods anymore to offer! I stick to the really good releases or taps I have access to on the regular in San Diego.

This is pretty irrelevant but one time I was at a mexican cake barrel aged release in line with people who had driven down from pennsylvania, ohio, west virginia, etc. that shit is way too much effort for me

Yeah for sure. I don't mind driving to Orange County/Los Angeles and make a whole day of it. But to drive up there and deal with traffic, people, lines - SOLELY for a release?! No thanks. The guy I mentioned does that - drive up, drive back down. Crazy.

It's the same checkboxing - people will travel for white whales to show off how they're drinking good beer that others can't get a hold of.

Yeah I guess so. It's just seems like so much work for a different/similar hazy IPA once or twice a week from the same breweries. I wonder if sometimes those IPAs are similar with just a slight variance in an ingredient, then just thrown in a new can.

yeah I can't believe the lines people deal with. I did it once with Corky Bucek for Monkish but since then I just get what I can get at my local place. I'd like to get some of the Hazy releases from Noble and I work in Tustin and Green Cheek isn't far up the road, which is gaining hype, but I just can't get myself motivated to wait in line.

That all being said, I am going to New York in October for a trip and will probably do the line thing Saturday morning if they have a release at Other Half.

Not worth lining up. Plenty of places have them on tap.

Most of the breweries just swap out hop varietals and pump out a new beer or few every month. At the end, most of them end up tasting quite more of the same.

Depends on where in Manhattan even. Blind Tiger's an old favorite of mine. Ginger man is another solid place - they have Hill farmstead on tap pretty often. Pony bar was alright as well. NYC has many places like milk & hops or top hops for a pint to sit down + growler fills to go. I wish there were such places in Boston.

Stopped by Burial in Asheville yesterday and I have to admit, I was pretty disappointed overall. I had two beers, one was terrible and one was meh. Plus, the bartender (possibly owner/manager) was a dick to us while ordering. Will obviously return but still disappointing. Thoroughly enjoyed Greenman though.

Add expensive to that. KJROD20 goes every couple weeks or so to Other Half/Equilibrium and he's dropping $100+ per case each time. I couldn't imagine how much it'd cost to do that every week at a multiple breweries.

Yeah that too.. Some guys at these releases are dropping hundreds between themselves and their people they take with them to buy additional cases for them. I would have a hard time having so much beer in my fridge, fearing that I'd let some beer go past their "BEST BY" dates.

Another good point - if you're buying all these IPAs for yourself, you have to consume it all before the quality drops!

Cellar Maker was awesome. I think I had 5 IPAs (Keeping the Family Together and Dobis Family Reunion were the doubles and they were top notch), Imperial Coffee and Cigarettes was solid, and BA Manhattan Vastness was great. Also tried Batch 1 and MVP. Thanks for the recommendation guys. We did a few hours at Almanac as well, damn they have so,e great stuff. Mikkeller Bar disappointed me a little, they didn't have any of their IPAs on tap but I did get Fieldworks Galaxy Juice DIPA and it was incredible.
