This is what I find ridiculous about hurricane coverage. They sensationalize the possible path so much that many people just stop taking predictions seriously. I'm sorry but there's no way this storm stretches from Grand Bahama to 100 mi west of Tampa. That's just an absurdly wide area
Buddy's parents live down in the keys, he keeps telling them hey need to come up here to orlando to stay with him during the storm. They keep waffling back and forth on staying there and riding it out or not. They love 2 blocks from the beach and the emergency personal trying to get everyone to evacuate have told them that if they stay to please "write their SS number on their arm so when we come back we can figure out who the dead bodies are." Shit is crazy to me that they haven't already left after that
Luckily I work for insurance company and doesn't affect me. Really has been hell for my wife as she is already at a busy store. Publix will likely refuse to close too. Customers will come in pick up their rx and say "I can't believe yall are open." really surprised my wife hasn't hit one yet. I did have my ent appt canceled for Monday though.
They had a Publix rep on the Weather Channel a while ago and she basically said they'd close only when things got bad, seemed nuts.
Not sure. It was more a "oh shit we just saw what a catastrophic storm can do, we better prepare". People naturally react to things they just saw.
fun fact: miami doesnt have much natural sand left. it is all imported from the gulf, bahamas, etc. they also bought most of their older palm trees from new orleans, mobile, and pensacola.
the first hurricanes I was actually here for in Florida was Francis and Ivan (I flew into Florida the day after charley). I can't remember if it was during Francis or Ivan but I remember watching the coverage of it approaching on TV before bed. my (now) wife turned out the light and told me "btw, if you hear anything that sounds like a freight train, its probably a tornado. wake me up so we can go downstairs and not die" then she rolled over and immediately started snoring This was me It never occurred to me that tornados can spawn during hurricanes. I spent the rest of the night wondering if I was hearing a freight train.
Starting? Publix store managers get special exemptions from mandatory curfews due to hurricanes so that they can keep the store open past when safe.
Dumb question probably, but this is just showing the flight took off right before the storm arrived, correct?
hey my mom is a pharmacist at publix as well and she would agree they act like they love the customer but treat employees like shit. Couple of friends live in Charleston and Hilton Head contemplating staying. Need smarter friends
Not in a flood zone but the pool and patio are prone to fill with water on a random June afternoon so I'm going to lay down some beach towels. I'm not about to fuck with sand bags. Moved everything worth a shit off of the floor outside of the rugs because it's a fucking rug
There were over 70 tornado warnings in sugar land that Saturday to Sunday when Harvey hit. My friends were telling me that they lived in their safe room for like 24 hours.
Boo MFer! what time you arriving in Chicago? I've put fresh white sheets on the bed in the guest bedroom and got out the comfy pillows for you
Its more than just the magnitude but the depth and the location. There was very little damage to the existing infrastructure. Plus things are built different here
5am weakens it and puts it inland SC as a hurricane. Sounds like it won't landfall as a major hurricane the 2nd time. Just in Florida.
and turning north. I see the idiot thred ban fucks came out like they deserve a comment. go find a kiddie swimming pool . you know ? the little plastic round one that way u can float down the econ river ok .
get,m bird dog . reality and I don't think there is much with the clientel here . is that if you look at central florida over the last 20 years . the hurricanes we have had are pups compared to other places . why ? we are protected in-land . I would say charlston should be very evacuated bye now myrtal beach , cape hatteras , plus if you look at predictions they have it picking up speed going out florida? that is never ever the case . what we must watch is when it goes in the gulf and button hooks . then in the warm water it is real dangerous and picks up speed . very rare its gets in the communist straight of cuba and just turns and goes straight up florida . when have you seen that Floridians ? think ? Charlie did what ? whent in the gulf , button hooked , came in at punta gorda , then came up florida like normal. now Andrew and allen what did they do whent straight into miama and came out the ass end and deposited in the gulf , so models are models . think what you want . its only a guess were its going. but I will say this . if it goes under Miami and turns a button hook , WE IN TROUBLE .
WHAT IS THE FRONT PUMPING IN THE GULF ?????????????????????????????????????? NONE. THE FRONT THANK GOD IS PUMPING DOWN FROM ATLANTA IS IT NOT ? LOOK AT THE WEATHER CHANNLE FOR YOURSELF ? wanna know what bothers jon ? I am not talking gubbs now ? the one behind it . why ? IRMA is crashing a hole in the mother earth system . fingers crossing it turns . little fast ones do a lot of damage .( Andrew ) .( hurricane Andrew repaire crew ) yes I was .
