i know this is fort myers traffic, but you can easily zoom out, I-75 is clear to orlando at the moment and you can check in the mornign

My godparents live in Naples and just called to say they're heading up to Orlando to stay with us. Going to be 9 people, 2 kids, 4 dogs, and 2 cats under one roof.

Have an aunt and uncle in Estero who refuse to leave for whatever fucking reason.

Is there any sort of casualty approximation? This is the most insane thing I've ever seen.

 

I have family all over FL, but most are up in the Big Bend, which is now in the Hurricane Watch area. I'm hoping it will be degraded to Tropical Storm status by the time it gets there.

 

So my parents are staying in Fort Myers. As dumb as they are, they still did a ton of prep. Apparently most other people in their neighborhood are also staying, but haven't done anything to prepare, no storm shutters or anything. That's just one neighborhood.

People are going to die.

 

If this thing doesn't start turning north, there is going to be a mass exodus out of the panhandle.

I just hope everybody in the path will either get out immediately or hunker down with proper precautions. Trying to get out too late and turning back with no prep, or even worse getting stuck out on the road, is an absolute worst case scenario. Don't mess with it, just go, or prep like a bomb is going to drop

 

A large tsunami that hit any metro coastal area of FL without warning would cause mass deaths too.

 

The initiation of the turn is imminent. The major turn is forecasted to begin by tomorrow night.

Our sister battalion got sent to Florida to help out along with a battalion from Ohio.

Looks like Irma is already starting to turn north.

 

They were around for weeks after Ivan. We got to sample some of the MRE's they were handing out.

Here is the problem with "getting out". You don't know what the storm is really going to do until 24-48 hours before it hits. 2 days ago SFL was going to get a direct hit. Plenty of people fled to the west coast. Now the storm is actually here and the west coast looks to be the actual victim of the storm and SFL is going to get cat 1-2 type conditions which for most of us is a walk on the park due to building codes and plenty of prior practice preparing. I'd much rather stay in my home that I know is as safe as possible and be ready for the worst while hoping for the best than get in my car and drive to somewhere that might end up the actual target of the storm. Now I'm stuck either trying to dodge a cat 4 storm in a car or riding it out in some random motel that is nowhere near as well built as my home. This obviously doesn't apply to people who live in evac zones. They don't really have a choice.

 

That's cool. That's all we are eating right now. Fortunately they aren't too bad.

I'm hoping they'll send us down next to help out.

 

When I say "get out" I'm talking like out of the state, not just to the other side of FL. I understand not everybody has that option, but for those that do, either take it or prep yourself in your home. Just don't hang around and end up making a last minute decision when most options are off the table. It's never that simple of course, I just hope as many people have adequately prepared as possible.

 

This is the largest area in my house that doesn't have an adjacent window. And that's if I close all three bedroom and a bathroom door in that "hallway."
