Yeah that list doesn't make much sense. I know I've harped on this before and I understand if it isn't a great site, but to not include the former GM plant area (which there should be more than enough of even with a few companies moving in) is odd.
There's pros and cons to all sites though. A big pro is that it is located literally next to a MARTA station. I'm not saying it's ideal or the best, it just seems odd to me that it wasn't included in the list but Turner field was even though that's now owned by GSU.
Bankhead will get swallowed by development sooner or later. Wouldn't be surprised if it's the new O4W in a decade or two. Asking Amazon to accelerate that process seems hopeful at best, though.
Just to be clear, the City of Atlanta submitted those sites for the state to consider to submit to Amazon. I'm all in I'm the Gulch based upon the discussions ive been privy to. People have to remember that the GM site is in Doraville. That site doesn't shake a fist at downtown.
Yeah, as soon as the beltline is done the inner burbs will extend west and eat all of that up. It's prime real estate
Lazy statement if you havent been over there in god knows how long. That Station is basically being encroached by West Midtown, its already being gentrified. A full on corporate campus like that + all the City's investment would rapidly change entire complexion too. We are talking less than 2 miles from West Midtown proper. All sorts of new townhomes, housing around West Marietta St, Marietta Blvd, Johnson Road. Beltline extension happening soon there. Not that 50,000 people are living in Bankhead.
MKR floated Bankhead to calm the masses who kick and scream equity. He's quietly putting his time and attention on the Gulch. The meeting invited even had a code name. That's why I'm all in on the Gulch.
Bankhead Marta Station seems like a good bet since there is already planned construction and development for the station. Since it hasn't started, they could essentially just hand it over to Amazon to build and design the space the way they want and as we all know, the easy access to public transportation would be a plus as well.
literally everyone i know that lives on that stretch of W Marietta / home park has had their house/car broken into. And that isn't even bankhead. My dads office is there off S atlanta/Marietta he could write a book on all the shit they have had to deal with.
La Jolla for a wedding but we spent a night in LA and then another in Laguna. Weather was just incredible
Aren't there a lot of places like that in Atlanta, where that would be true 10-20 years ago, but isn't necessarily true now? I lived in Seattle before I moved here, Amazon literally takes over an entire neighborhood of that city. It may be a problem for a very short while, but I think you'd be underestimating the impact HQ2 could actually have.
Just read the lawsuit, wow. I absolutely can see that. Holy shit at Colliers not getting IOI permission for Dietch in writing from Mattress Firm
Yeah they are fucked too. Talked to my old boss about this today and he was like I thought my add was going to kick in but it got better and better. Word on the street was that the cash for play stuff was really legit. Those guys are so fucked.
Write the book. Thats not forward-looking for the prospective area whatsoever. And the opinion seems devoid of any firsthand knowledge of what is happening in West Midtown (Bankhead Station being the closest to that area). Its a pointless debate, as its far down the list of likely options. Its just a plausible, interesting option unlike you suggest. Citing crime comes off as either ignorant of reality or that of a Trump supporter. Idk.
Haha Jesus Christ Fran get ahold of yourself. Do you really expect him to get police reports and first hand reports to post here?
gordon bombay has you shook as fuck about Bankhead. It took you a few days to show your head after Auburn deep dicked your Dawgs
Funny story about Bankhead... An intern from my company ended up renting out a spare bedroom in my place over the summer. He started out in an apartment in Bankhead because he knew nothing about ATL and just found a cheap 1BR. He came home from his first day of work and his apartment was being ransacked.... by 3 ten year old kids.
Those are a little too new and too nice to have someone be able to pop the window and walk in like that.
Plus the homes built across from the park that's not open yet but all fenced up. Could see it being something like next O4W, but they need to clean up shit that triggers people on nextdoor like the theft at the new Publix on Moore's mill first.
I'm done arguing about bankhead of all places but as someone who went to GT, I am not sure how I could have any better understanding of west midtown atlanta.
It's come a long way from the days of the homeless from the rail tracks sleeping in the stoops at M Street and the rest of the neighborhood looking like Beirut in the 80's.
Trop I'm drinking Tropicalia in the brewery right now. I already liked it but it's much better from the source.
Anyone ever seen “Desperate Housewares” on Highland and Boulevard(?)? I have driven by this place 100x now during standard business hours and never seen even a car there. It’s houseware store with lots of property in a prime location that’s never open? Something seems fishy. Especially when the back of The building is painted entirely black and the back back wall has a weird galaxy painting? Anyone know wtf is up with that place?
