I like it a ton. Much more organic to work in the optio in the off-season. Hate that the gt game is so far away
and pittsburgh on a FRIDAY night??? 6 days after playing stanford (which follows wisconsin in green bay)? that is an automatic loss
AGAIN!!! Killy problems + administration problems = 8 - 4 or worse It’s possible Swarprick is just trying to get Killy to resign and save the buyout
If a guy has been to ND that many times and hasn't committed then i feel like he's not going too. Also this time of year gets nutty. All the sudden ND has crystal balls for Boykin and Lenzy today.
I hear we are going to get that one kid that is vey well spoken and a great culture fit but is only being lightly pursued by maybe one other elite program. He’s a high academic kid and will have a great visit but he might not always be “into it” when we play Stanford or Michigan State.
Shamrock secrets Spoiler Notre Dame’s secondary recruiting has certainly been a roller coaster over the last year. There was a point about a year ago where it seemed Notre Dame was poised for a strong crop of secondary signees, but the loss of publicly and privately committed cornerbacks resulted in Notre Dame not signing a player at the position in the class. At one point the 2018 class had a pair of Rivals100 defensive backs in Marietta (Ga.) Lassiter standout safety Derrik Allen and Detroit Cass Tech cornerback Kalon Gervin. Allen remains the defensive lynchpin of the class, but Gervin has long since decommitted. Notre Dame defensive coordinator Mike Elko and cornerbacks coach Todd Lyght have been working hard to round fill out the class with depth, but even more important with recruits that have the talent to improve the length, athleticism and production of the secondary. Allen is currently joined in the class by Mishawaka (Ind.) Penn safety Paul Moala and North Fort Myers (Fla.) cornerback Joseph Wilkins. Talking to multiple sources, it seems that the Notre Dame staff wants to add three more defensive backs to the class. It seemed for a time that Ocala (Fla.) Vanguard safety Avonta Crim and Milpitas (Calif.) athlete Tariq Bracy were set to join the class, but Notre Dame has moved on from both players. That leads us to the main point of tonight’s Shamrock Secrets. It looks like Notre Dame’s defensive back recruiting is rounding into shape. *** In a not-so-secret turn of events, Notre Dame seems to have emerged as a strong, strong player for Everett (Wash.) Archbishop Murphy four-star cornerback Kyler Gordon. The 5-10, 175-pound corner visited Notre Dame officially for the Temple game on Sept. 2 and the Irish have continued to push hard for him ever since. As BGI reported last week, Gordon is coming back in town this weekend for an unofficial visit during Notre Dame’s post-season awards ceremony, Echoes. The fact Gordon is coming back on his own dime in December is obviously excellent news for Notre Dame. Do not be surprised if Gordon is part of the 2018 Notre Dame class before Christmas. *** Notre Dame is pushing for H.D. Woodson four-star cornerback Noah Boykin, who is currently committed to Maryland. Boykin is ranked by Rivals as the No. 193 player in the country. Although he doesn’t often speak with the media, Boykin does keep in constant communication with the Notre Dame staff, and the defensive coaches had made a hard, hard push for him. So much so that it would not surprise us if Boykin ultimately flipped to Notre Dame. Interestingly, if Boykin does in fact make the flip he would be the third Maryland commit to flip from the Terrapins to Notre Dame in the last year, joining 2017 signees Kofi Wardlow and Jonathan Doerer. *** BGI has spoken with multiple sources about Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy standout cornerback Houston Griffith, the No. 35 player in the country. Obviously things have been trending in Notre Dame’s direction, and our recent conversations have solidified that. One question we had was whether or not Willie Taggart’s hiring at Florida State would change things with Griffith, who decommitted from the Seminoles on Nov. 29. According to our sources, Griffith started wavering on his pledge to Florida State way before there were rumblings about former Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher possibly leaving. In fact, it was Griffith that originally reached back out to Notre Dame and expressed an interest to reignite the relationship. Based on everything we’ve been hearing, we expect Griffith to eventually commit to and sign with Notre Dame. *** Notre Dame’s offer to Washington (D.C.) St. John’s College cornerback D.J. Brown was based on no other factor than the Irish staff evaluating his senior film and liking what they saw. Brown quickly set up a visit to Notre Dame after receiving the offer, and he’s coming in town for the Echoes event this weekend. Brown, a Virginia commit, is in competition with Boykin, Gordon and Griffith for the final three secondary spots in the class. With the competition heating up for a somewhat limited number of spots, do not be surprised to see Notre Dame’s staff use that to see who is really serious about joining the class. *** Notre Dame is still involved with Anaheim (Calif.) Servite safety Julius Irvin, but all of our West Coast contacts feel that USC is the clear leader for his services. *** With all this being said, do not be surprised if Notre Dame has three more defensive backs in the fold by Christmas. If it’s the three players we expect, the Notre Dame secondary class would be quite good.
in the end, if we land Kyler Gordon, HG3, and Boykin, to go with Derrick Allen, Moala, and Wilkins Jr, i'm gonna call that a home run 2 elite safeties (HG3 and Derrick) and 1 high end CB for sure in Gordon plus some nice depth players that could turn into something special. If HG3 is a CB, he's going to be very good there i think, just not elite like he would be at safety but the upgrade in talent and athletcisim to go with our ridiculous LB haul this year (2 legit top 100 payers in Lamb and Simon and 4 star guys in Bauer and Ovie) and the best 3 year recruiting stint at DT/NG/SDE I can ever remember us having - our defense will be stacked going forward and we now have Elko who will know how to actually use them We are missing an elite WDE but hopefully Daelin and Okwara take the next step in 2018 and we can attract some elite guys there
That DB haul would be incredible and would instantly fix all the depth issues back there If 2018 is Kellys last year the next coach will have a seriously loaded roster to take over
Go read Tom loys interview with the St. Brown father EQ gonna go to NFL I think Aman Ra is not going to ND But they seem to love ND as a family
Think Killy might get the can between that Michigan and Va Tech week. We could be 3-3 going into the bye week, then if get smacked at Michigan, that might be it
On Kyler Gordon - the eagle has landed in SB Spoiler I just spoke with a source close to Kyler Gordon. He got on a flight at 3:45 AM ET this morning and is in South Bend now. He'll meet with Director of Player Development Ron Powlus, Todd Lyght and Mike Elko each for one-on-one meetings this afternoon before Echoes. Tonight, his host will be Notre Dame cornerback Julian Love.
HG3 article on 247 Spoiler Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly and defensive coordinator Mike Elko visited Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy on Thursday and spent time with four-star defensive back Houston Griffith. Griffith with Elko (left) and Kelly (right). (Photo: Houston Griffith, 247Sports) The 6-1, 192-pounder enjoyed his time with the Fighting Irish staff and continues to heavily consider playing for Notre Dame next season. “It went really well,” said Griffith, an Under Armour All-American. “It was a good conversation. They told me straight up that I have an opportunity to compete as a true freshman and play as a freshman. If I choose to go there, I just want to get there and learn to gel with the guys and be a good teammate.” With a commitment coming relatively soon, this was the final in-person contact between Griffith and Kelly. It was time he genuinely appreciated. “The whole conversation, we were just really talking about things outside of football,” said Griffith. “What Notre Dame can do for me after college. We talked about the networking. Being from Chicago, when I was at Mount Carmel, my friends fathers and grandfathers went to Notre Dame. That networking would take me places. They were telling me how different Notre Dame is than other places.” Regarding a commitment date, that’s unknown at this time. However, Griffith did say that he’ll sign during the early signing period between Dec. 20 and 22. The finalists include Notre Dame, Florida State and Wisconsin. “Florida State is doing an in-home visit early next week," he said. "Wisconsin came to see me on Tuesday. They told me they are excited about and want me to take an official visit. Nothing is locked in though.” Per the 247Sports Composite rankings, Griffith is the No. 63 overall player nationally, No. 11 cornerback in the country and No. 14 prospect in Florida from the class of 2018. If Griffith commits to Notre Dame, he would immediately become the highest-rated commit in the class based on the 247Sports Composite rankings. Four-star quarterback Phil Jurkovec would be second as the No. 66 overall player, four-star safety Derrik Allen is third at No. 69 in the country and four-star wide receiver Kevin Austin is fourth at No. 73 nationally.
Got to speak with his dad prior to the USC game. He raised the 3 boys as ND fans. Said the place is much more than just a University, and it was his dream to have all 3 play at ND together. Didn’t really give any indication on Amon Ra. He wants him at ND, but he said it’s totally up to the kid.
Yeah it seems like he has been trending UGA/Clemson's way, but his 247 profile still lists him as a visitor so I was hoping he'd give it a shot.
