It’s pretty simple to see what will happen. If we are allowed to vote in 18 and 20, Dems take the House, maybe the Senate by one or two seats, and there’s no way Trump will be re-elected. His base is locked in, but it’s only 30-35% of voters. He’s lost support at the margins, and can’t duplicate the support he had in the swing states in 16. It will take years to undo the damage Trump and the GOP have done in less than a few years, and we’ll be stuck with Gorsuch and the structural changes to the judiciary for decades. It’s goin to suck but with millennials and core Dem constituencies turning out more over the coming cycles, we have a shot at stopping the damage and working on a turnaround. If roadblocks to voting are intensified before the elections, it will mean the GOP realized that is the only way they can stay in power. FBI and other law enforcement agencies will have been totally compromised and completely taken over by loyalists. Everything will get worse for everybody except the 1% and white men of means.
You obviously have the chops and are informed. There were sweeping statements being made about ALL corporations not caring about the Gays and the environment, only about $. I’ve worked in Fortune 150 companies for 25 years and have seen and experienced different. True, most corporations aren’t great, but there are some that have strong people cultures and understand the value of human capital and treat their employees with exceptional levels of tolerance. People that stereotype corporations under one paradigm don’t understand corporations or the people within them.
Pretty good chance of all of that happening as described. The GOP understands they can’t win votes by appealing to voters with their ideas and policies, so they need to protect Trump and accelerate the unraveling of institutions.

So of all reasons to be offended by the tax plan, my dad’s reason surprised the shit out of me. I hadn’t even considered it, to be honest. He’s served as president of Ronald McDonald House and president of the board of the Foundation I work for previously. Bumping that MFJ standard deduction to $24k makes end of year charitable contributions a much less attractive vehicle for itemizing. As some of you know, I work for a nonprofit Children’s Hospital that relies on those December-early January donations, as we’re in the middle of building a new one (85m project... 30m from our philanthropy). We’re going to have to budget totally different next year because that makes up about 15% of our annual revenue (~1 to 1.5m). GOP just keeps finding more and more ways to hurt people and totally disregard the well-being of our kids. I hope those of you that do take a charitable contribution deduction consider doubling up your donation this year. It’ll make more sense for you tax-wise and frontload the benefits of your favorite charity that may suffer some setbacks next year.
Fuck everything. Seriously though, consider doubling end of year contributions if you guys aren’t making an extra mortgage payment this month to cover for a loss of the mortgage interest deduction. It would be so fucking impactful for charities.

As someone who grew up doing the hide under you desk drills, watched when the Day After was premiered, and then was amazed to watch the Soviet Union fall apart and the Wall come down in 91, everything that has happened in the last year with Russia is incredibly depressing and spirit crushing. Every pres and administration from Clinton on bears responsibility, but the end game happened on Obama’s watch. Objectively, it’s a legit criticism of his presidency and his mediocre leadership skills. Of course Trump nor the GOP isn’t going to do anything real to counter Putin. They along with Fox News are marching in tune with our old enemy. A lot of Americans still don’t realize what a massive defeat we suffered, just because they didn’t see any planes and tanks.
