I’ll still watch the WC and try to catch the big matchups but I’m not going to go out of my way i.e. changing my work schedule.
I took off to watch the entire knockouts just like I did in 2014. It’s the fucking World Cup. It’s going to be awesome. I didn’t have many expectations of watching the US during that time frame anyway
True story: my office got so bothered with all the streaming going on that they set up a WC feed in our building’s auditorium
I'll watch all the WC I can. The problem is my kids won't get into it. During the women's WC they drew American flags and "USA!" and hung them all over the living room. When the US played they were amped and really watched. We won't get that experience and I hate it for my boy especially whose really starting to ball out on the field. The women's Cup really helped my daughter's interest and it showed in her game.
USMNT on May 28 will play a friendly against Bolivia at the Philadelphia Union’s Talen Energy Stadium.
It's so weird following his progression because he wasn't in an academy, and we haven't really seen anything from him outside junior national team games. But pretty much everywhere he goes he's getting huge praise and rocketing up the pecking order- from being the starting striker with the U20's, to being dropped in directly with the U23's at Werder and almost immediately practicing with the men, to being called up to the national team without playing a single professional game. Managers must see things in practice that immediately convinces them of how good he is.
Ha, true, if our scouting network were a gross domestic product we'd be Liberia but someone getting a national team call up without debuting for a club team is super rare for any country.
Max Meyer leaving Schalke after this year in addition to goretzka. Big holes in the central midfield.
Supposedly Pulisic to Liverpool reports are getting more traction. I'd prefer he stay at Dortmund but if he is going to the Prem, I guess Klopp is who I'd want him to play for. Dortmund may be more willing to sell now, too, with Sancho's emergence.
Why would you rather he stay at Dortmund instead of playing for a world class coach whose bread and butter is developing attacking players?
1. Playing time. He'd be in the rotation at Liverpool but he wouldn't be a mostly every game starter like he is now. 2. If he starts under-performing he's likely to get benched a lot quicker, and I don't want any young player of ours exposed to the abuse of premier league fans/media.
Pulisic, McKennie, Wood, and Chandler all start this morning. Brooks and Fabian having a season they'd like to forget.
Why not? Pulisic wouldn’t go there and sit on the bench. I’d be similarly happy for him if he went to City. I don’t get not wanting him to go play for a great manager. If you don’t want him to kill arsenal then I get that, but to say it wouldn’t be good for him or the USMNT is dumb
you say he wouldn't sit on the bench but he's not going to be a first choice player. he should be getting steady, first team play at his age. why should he go to Liverpool and hope he can impress whenever Salah or Mane need a rest.
I don’t understand how any Liverpool fan can say with a straight face that is the best situation for him unless you’re certain Salah or Mane are leaving this summer
I don’t want him at City. That is not going to be the right move for him, that is a dumb statement too. Bernardo Silva is struggling to get time on the wing
As a Liverpool and USMNT fan I can’t align wanting Pulisic and wanting Mane and King Mo to stay. For me it comes down to this, if we want to have a chance to do well in 2022, we need to play in the Confed Cup to give what will be a very young/inexperienced team some major international experience. If we want to play in the Confed Cup we need to win a Gold Cup. There’s a Gold Cup next summer. If we want to win the Gold Cup we need Pulisic at his top level. To be at his top level he needs to be a regular starter next year. He wouldn’t be a regular starter next year at Liverpool. I love Pulisic, but Mo ain’t sitting. Big picture there are only a handful of teams who can afford his price tag and I don’t think he could fit right into the 11 for any of them right now. I think Pulisic knows his development is the priority right now and wouldn’t accept a move to a team where he’d be a spot starter. Of all those teams, Liverpool is one of the more likely to sell from their 11 and have room for him to step right in. If Mo scores 30 again next year (and we hopefully have a trophy or two to show for it) I think it’s pretty obvious Madrid willl offer a huge number and we will accept. That could create the right situation for USMNT fans and Liverpool fans alike.
He’s played 2900 minutes this year at Dortmund, he’d get damn near that at Liverpool. I don’t think he’d just play on the wing, he’d be like coutinho
Are we going to ignore that those numbers mean he’s pretty much a lock for starter and playing full 90 most matches in Bundesliga vs doing that 1/2 the time and being a last 30 sub half the time in EPL? He’d need to be around 3250 in England for that to be equal
If he’s getting the same amount of minutes why does it matter how many games the team plays? Isn’t the complaint young players come in and get too many minutes in England and it ruins them?
I fucked up the math on that. It’d basically be starting like 2/3 of the season and being a 30 minute sub for 1/3. That isn’t too bad but not what I’d want to see him doing at this point
There were a lot of people saying he wasn't gonna see the field for Dortmund 2 years ago, when they were bringing back Gotze with Reus and Schurrle. And they signed that young Turk and most people were worried about him ever getting playing time and he still won the job. I'm not saying he should sign for Liverpool but give the kid a chance if he wants to take it
Liverpool would be the ideal team for him to go to, but I don’t want him anywhere near the EPL right now, and especially the English “media”
Pulisic has not played that well this year It’s best for him to get as many minutes as possible right now
Hamburg trying to fight off relegation and Wood gets himself sent off in the 71st up 2-1. Won’t matter though, they need Wolfsburg to lose and they just went up 3-1
