This has always been a problem in American politics, but even with Trump has being so overt, blatant and nonchalant about his appointees its still not getting much traction. Politics are so toxic in this country right now its only a problem if the party that goes against your ideals is doing it. If its the party you identify with, its OK.

I'm not thrilled with how this undersells (imo) racial issues but this is some very compelling analysis and parts of it certainly hit close to home. As background, before Oregon I enjoyed the benefit of private schools, and this in particular reminded me very much of a conversation I had with my parents not too long ago: "The grim truth is that, as long as good parenting and good citizenship are in conflict, we’re just going to pack a few more violins for the trip."

Loesch sucks and the NRA sucks, but she isn't 100% wrong. Didn't Pod Save America have an expert guest a couple months ago and explain that the media covers school shootings the exact wrong way? I think the CDC studied suicides or clusters of suicides, developed a strategy for responsibly covering/reporting on suicides, disseminated that information and the prevalence of suicide clusters or follow up suicides declined significantly. Obviously Loesch is coming at this from a self-serving place, but do we really care how the sausage gets made if at the end of the day we end up in a spot where mass killings are extremely rare?
