ND has a really nice class started, looks to be another fringe top ten year for Kelly

  2. They will probably add 4-5 more guys before the season too and I don't think the class will go too big barring a lot of unexpected attrition (always possible at ND) so they can really focus on guys during the season on officials

A lot of ND/Mich, ND/Stanford battles right now

Be nice to beat both those teams this year, might help ND get a top 10 class. Class will more likely be 12-15 in range though because they aren’t gonna take more than 23 is my guess today

  8. They are going hard after a lot of DL so if they don't land at least one more that would be a disappointment. I think they offer a K/P as well.

    They def need a punter

I would expect them to go for 1-2 preferred walk ons at the specialist positions and maybe one scholarship player

I agree and I think Davis is done at QB but he and Jurk are really similar and would have almost the same eligibility if Jurk doesn't win the job as a freshman (which I hope he doesn't).

    247 Recruiting Scoop

So, let’s get right into it!

    On four-star linebacker Osita Ekwonu

    PAID CONTENT BY SEARS

Kenmore 4-Burner LP Gas Grill With Storage
    Sears

    — I’d be shocked if he didn’t end up at Notre Dame. One source told me this week that “everyone is already on board and acting committed, and we’re just waiting for things to become official” when referring to the elite linebacker prospect and his family. This would be a huge pull for the Irish, as he’s at the top of the board.

    On three-star linebacker Jack Kiser

    — Notre Dame loves this kid’s athleticism and his upside at the position. He climbed the board tremendously this offseason and now is right there as a top target at the linebacker position. In talking with some sources, it’s Kiser and Ekwonu at the top, along with Henrich. Newly-offered Asa Turner is up there, and that offer was a big one for him, and so is Tristan Sinclair, but he’s expected to stay out west. With Kiser, he’s expected to be on campus this summer, likely in June, and a commitment is definitely a possibility.

On four-star offensive guard/center Zeke Correll

    — Notre Dame continues to push all of the right buttons here and most would be pretty surprised if the Fighting Irish didn’t eventually add him to the commit list. He visits in June and it’s going to take one heck of an effort by another school to get him to go somewhere other than South Bend. It’s possible, no doubt, but the Irish won’t be out-recruited on this one, not with defensive line coach Mike Elston, offensive line coach Jeff Quinn and offensive coordinator Chip Long leading the way.

    On four-star quarterback Graham Mertz

    — I still expect him to visit Notre Dame next month. I believe the plan is for him to be on campus in South Bend during the weekend of the 16th. That should be a good opportunity for him to check out the Fighting Irish for the first time since landing the offer and compare a program he has a lot of interest in with the school he’s currently committed to in Wisconsin. If things play out the way I’ve been reporting them, I believe the Irish will eventually land him.

On three-star tight end Luke Deal

    — Notre Dame is still pushing extremely hard leading up to Friday evening’s commitment announcement. Multiple schools have reasons to be optimistic. In talking with sources, Notre Dame has confidence, Auburn believes it’s the favorite, and North Carolina State sees itself as a legit contender. Michigan was also in today, so with them getting the last in-person visit, I’m sure they have reasons to feel good. According to a source, Auburn has done a good job of creating a family atmosphere and that is really hitting home with Deal, as well as the fact that the depth chart sets up nicely for him to compete for time as a true freshman. On the flip side, the coach-to-player relationship between Deal and offensive coordinator and tight ends coach Chip Long is tough to top. Long and head coach Brian Kelly will be on the phone late tonight trying to make one final pitch to get Deal on board come Friday.

On three-star defensive end Bralen Trice

    — Notre Dame is working hard here and the staff absolutely loves this kid. He’s expected to visit with some family in June and the Irish are hoping to make a big push.

On three-star defensive end Aeneas DiCosmo

    — Stanford is undoubtedly the the favorite at this point, but Notre Dame isn’t giving up. The staff will lay it all out when he visits in June and will look to make a big push. The plan is to compare both schools and show exactly why Notre Dame is different and “better” for DiCosmo, but we’ll see if that changes anything. It’s going to take a perfect visit to beat the Cardinal.

On three-star defensive end Colt Ellison

    — Notre Dame hasn’t given up yet. The staff believes the addition of four-star defensive end NaNa Osafo-Mensah helped its chances because the two get along well and they want to play together at the next level. However, my sources in Texas believe that campus feel, overall vibe with the school, distance from home and depth chart will eventually land him at TCU.

A few more notes on the Target Board …
    — Unless a truly elite cornerback wants in, Notre Dame likely sticks with what they have in the secondary at this point. The staff loves four-star cornerback K.J. Wallace and would have no issues getting through National Signing Day with just him on board (along with safeties Kyle Hamilton and Litchfield Ajavon).

    — I’ve removed three-star defensive end Etinosa Reuben from the target list and believe he’ll end up elsewhere. Notre Dame isn’t pursuing him at this point.

    — I like Michigan for four-star defensive end Rodas Johnson, now that Notre Dame has moved on.

    — I’m thinking Stanford snags four-star defensive end Joshua Pakola, three-star linebacker Tristan Sinclair, four-star tight end Hudson Henry, and four-star linebacker Laiatu Latu.

    — I think Ohio State gets four-star offensive guard/center Harry Miller.

    — Clemson is the favorite for four-star wide receiver Joe Ngata. I like them at this point, but Notre Dame is still trying to get him back for an official visit.

    — I still like Oklahoma for four-star defensive end Marcus Hicks.

    — I’m feeling Penn State eventually lands three-star offensive guard Saleem Wormley.

    — I expect four-star tight end Jude Wolfe to land at USC.

    — I like Penn State for four-star wide receiver John Metchie, but Notre Dame is definitely not out yet.

    — I think Michigan lands four-star cornerback DJ Turner II, barring an incredible visit to Notre Dame next month (he’d be a welcomed commit, in reference to what was mentioned above).

from Sampson on the scholly issues:

There's been some back and forth on Deon McIntosh on the board and the best I can say here is that I've picked up mixed information on that issue. Up until a couple weeks ago, I'd been told he was likely to return with a four-game suspension as part of that return. However, last night I spoke to a source who indicated that the coaching staff had changed tracks here and decided not to take McIntosh back on the roster next season. I'm not entirely sure what drove that decision. It could have been scholarship numbers (a real issue), but from what I can gather the roster itself would have loved to have had McIntosh reintegrated into the group.

This was noted in another thread by tj34, but there's a good chance Freddy Canteen does not return to the roster this fall. The guy has had so many injuries that there's a concern he would be able to compete at the level Notre Dame needs.

Like last summer, we're talking about a couple players here in the back half (or back quarter, even) of the roster as potential departures. Healthy place to be.
