An AMC employee got an attitude with me last weekend for entering my Stubs account with MoviePass then remarked to her coworker “I’ll be so glad when AMC and Regal stop taking MoviePass.” I asked her how she thought they could just stop taking debit cards; she replied “No not debit cards; just MoviePass.”
I don't get it. Do they not realize they still get paid for the ticket and the more movies people see the more concession revenue they receive? Everyone knows the theaters don't make shit off the actual movies anyways, and it seems like almost everyone buys something at concessions when I go to the theater.
Their employees have zero awareness at all. The AMC is a couple dollars more than most of the other theaters nearby so I rarely went there before MoviePass. I get why AMC and Regal corporate care though - they don’t want to be strong armed into sharing concession revenue with MoviePass.
That’s always the way to go. Kiosks were backed up and there were three people in the box office line when I got there last Saturday night. It was faster, but very annoying. Won’t make that mistake again.
MoviePass has slowed the kiosks down too. If you have a group of two of three people it used to be handled in one transaction; now it’s a transaction for each person.
A frequent theater visiting year for me would be three movies a year, and that's if someone else was paying for my ticket. Many years I've gone with seeing 1 or fewer. The movie pretty much has to be one I know for 100% certainty I am really going to like, otherwise I feel like the money has just been completely wasted. Costs more to see one movie there than it does for an entire month of Netflix or Hulu! If I go to see another one tomorrow, that would be my third movie in 7 days. There's a less than 0% chance I would have ever gone to the theater to see Upgrade like I did early this week. If the local Regal theater stopped accepting MoviePass, I would just go back to rarely ever going there. I don't even need one hand to count how many movies that I would consider it worth paying $10+ to see in a theater.
Every Marvel movie should have its own thread. Lumping them together makes it impossible to discuss long term. Saw Oceans today, it was good but lacked something the originals had. Just very paint by numbers with no twists or turns.
I've been on a cruise and haven't seen anything since deadpool two. There are a bunch of movies out that seem pretty good. Hope to see Hereditary, Solo, Oceans 8, Upgrade, and Hotel Artemis this week. Anyone see Hotel Artemis? I was really looking forward to it but reviews are shitty.
Got an email this morning that I'll have to start taking pictures of my stubs, not a big deal assuming the app works well. If it keeps out the fraud and helps movie pass last a little longer I'm all for it.
First Reformed was one of the weirdest movies I’ve ever seen. Wasn’t terrible by any means but I’m shocked it has a 98% on RT. The entire movie builds tension and you’re anticipating a jump scare but it never happens
Went to see Deadpool 2 again with a friend who hadn’t seen it yet. Was like no problem, I’ll check into bookclub and then just get a Deadpool ticket since I hadn’t had to take a picture of a stub yet. In line and check in and I get the you have to take a picture prompt. It’s like they knew what I was planning Spoiler used regal points instead, fuck paying for movies
I’ve wanted to see it ever since I saw the trailer a while back. Hawke is one of the more underappreciated actors.
And taking the picture wasn't too much trouble, once I got past the app crashing. Just put the ticket stub on the armchair, and snapped a quick picture before the movie started.
The first two times I did it, it worked fine. But kept giving me an error message this past weekend. Have had friends say the same thing.
Had time today and the weather continues to be kinda shitty, so I went and saw adrift tonight. Pretty good! Would recommend
Whenever I’m watching something she’s in, I find myself distracted by internally debating whether I find Shailene Woodley attractive
Gf and I saw oceans 8 tonight. Decent flick, although it's another I would have been slightly annoyed had I paid $10 for. We were going to see Hereditary, but there were only front row tickets available. So we're going Friday night and then Incredibles 2 on Saturday or Sunday. That will put me at 5 movies since Monday. Easily a record
All this weekend: Tag Incredibles 2 Superfly I2 is definitely a must see, will prob see Tag because trailers looked funny and Superfly is a remake of a blaxploitation film so I’m intrigued.
Have you seen Upgrade yet? I’d definitely recommend that one. I’m probably going to see Adrift at some point soon, as well, and currently planning on checking out American Animals during my half day on Friday.
Saw upgrade and adrift (plus oceans 8) so far this week. I think my options are hotel Artemis and book club and I'm not sure I'm that excited about seeing a movie every day this week to sneak over and see either of those...
Saw solo today. Thought it was fine. Seeing hereditary tomorrow. For some reason, American animals isn't playing near me.
With respect to American Animals, is that even the case on Friday? It seems like it has been out for a week or two elsewhere, but opening wider here (in Houston) on Friday.
