While I understand there are still a lot of people who aren't Trumpers who want to still vote Republican because many of their beliefs still line up with the party, but right now that means they are complicit in furthering the agenda of racism and hate. When you have democrats who openly call for a ban on abortion or campaign on upholding gun rights or call for lower taxes or a lesser role of the government in your life, then I guarantee you those people will vote for the democrat pushing those beliefs. Hell that's basically what happened with Doug Jones in Alabama. He isn't far left and the other option was a garbage human being. The only reason he got elected was because he wasn't out there campaigning like Bernie Sanders. Right now those people (the never Trumper Republican types) are forced to go with the party that pushes their policy beliefs, even if they disagree with other parts of it. I have no idea how this is so hard to understand. It's a two party system and even if they don't like the people who have hijacked their party (and I'll be frank I don't like the people who have hijacked the democratic party), but you're forced to go with one or the other or completely abstain. Let's don't live in a fantasy world where we act like there's a viable third party.

My relationship with my parents is the worst it's ever been in my 30 years of life. They're still in AL and live and breathe Fox News. They are so far gone. Thankfully I don't have any children. I've been out west for over a year, they came out to visit for the first time last month. It was awful. They are still very racist, and whenever ANYTHING about Trump gets brought up in any context, they immediately invoke Hillary and/or Obama. I won't get into the details, because it's the same regurgitated bullshit you hear from Fox news. Literally word-for-word. It's absolutely disgusting. Despite this, I still can't write them off forever. They were amazing parents in raising me, and I was afforded incredible opportunities solely from their hard work. I was given opportunities I probably didn't even deserve because of them. I can say with 100% confidence that I would not be where I'm at today without my parents. I am fully aware of that. But what they've become is disheartening. Almost depressing. And I place the blame primarily at Fox News, which is one of the worst institutions this country has ever produced. I truly believe the damage over the past 2-3 years, and will be going on for the foreseeable future, is irreparable. Barring something drastic (what does that even mean anymore?), I don't foresee myself staying in the US.

I still believe in the American republic and want to preserve it. I don't view decorum as a political strategy; I view it as a necessity to preserving our system. Obviously, Republicans have abandoned it for short-term gains at the polls. That's shameful, and it's abhorrent. I recognize that it's difficult for Democrats to maintain the moral high ground where it is when Republicans are bringing everything else around it down, but I think that there's a responsibility to do what's right. If they don't, who will?
