No one gives a fuck about a moderate agenda. Hillary Clinton was a moderate and she lost. Learn from past mistakes.
give people something to vote for, something that will actually improve their lives, and they will turnout
I'm aware of Hillary Clinton's many shortcomings. One of them being that running a white moderate inspires nobody and alienates a ton of the liberal and minority base and that's why she got almost 2 million less votes than Obama.
As an aside, I did a little tech support for my dad last night. Had to migrate his apps and photos to a new phone. Cleaned up his Facebook for him. Spoiler: findings inside Ethically, this is a little sketchy but I felt it needed to be done since he generally just clicks Accept to everything on Facebook. So I audited the pages he liked, removed about 75 of them, skimmed his newsfeed and found several fake accounts that I unfriended and blocked, unfollowed about 3 dozen friends sharing blatantly racist shit and QAnon/Infowars content, and snoozed a couple dozen more to see how he does without seeing garbage for a month. I’d say he’s pretty average for a boomer that voted for Trump but that was mortifying seeing the shit he sees daily on his newsfeed. Now he’ll see mostly local election stuff, exotic car pages, and his friends’ grandchildren.
I’ve been pressuring the BSA to cut ties with them (and encouraging everyone else I know to do the same).
i'm going to have an aneurysm as we get closer to 20 and people continue to use anti empirical rationals for why *WHOEVER* has to be the nominee
I included my mom in the process so she could be aware of his social media discipline (or lack thereof). She confirmed the profiles where they didn’t actually know who someone was and pleaded for me to remove them. They were all damn near identical in terms of content. At one point, the algorithm was focusing heavily on like 2 friends of his that relentlessly shared Blue Lives Matter, Stand with Israel, and Proud Boys shit. And Q. She had to pull up the primer on QAnon from Daily Beast and read it out loud to me and was rolling by the end of it. She asked me to check hers too because she said she never sees any of that kind of shit. Her newsfeed was 100% Southern Living and a bunch of hands making food. She’s living in a 2015 social media time capsule.
instead of complaining about candidates, how about we wait until after the midterms? It'd be weird if there was an obvious candidate this far out. Given how aggressive and shitty Trump is, probably the best that we don't
Racists are even more racist in 2018 and 2020 then they were in 2016. The dems should run an openly racist candidate to appeal to Trump voters.
This is vehemently false. Going back, their dad built the refineries that fueled the Soviet and German war machines of WWII, he then took that fortune and multiplied it building Koch into the big mf conglomerate it is. They've built think tanks and institutes at universities all over, taking advantage of tax laws that allow inherited wealth to not be taxed as long as the interest is spent on non-profits. Just so happens their non-profits spew libertarian propoganda. They're bigly John Birch Society members, the dad started it. Their efforts with the ACLU were a broader effort to ensure the government can't seize their assets. They'd ideally like to have a government with no regulations whose sole purpose is to protect and enforce the rules and ownership of private property. They've polluted, ignored safety regs from OSHA, and neglected maintenance of some of their assets that has resulted in the deaths of thousands, and have been found liable and have paid out of court settlements to make this stuff go away. That family is more responsible for the impending ecological disaster than the Rockefellers. This podcast is good.
Been on the Gavin bandwagon since he was Mayor of SF. More than likely he'll easily become GovCal in November, but he can't be seen as turning around and starting a national campaign before he actually does something substantive as Governor. I wish he were seasoned enough for a 2020 run, but it's much more likely that we'll see him in 2024 as an extremely strong candidate if not the Anointed Savior of the Party.
they were also behind the campaign that derailed Nashville's public transit initiative. They are in places you'd never expect https://www.nytimes.com/2018/06/19/climate/koch-brothers-public-transit.html
democracy in chains is a very good book that discusses how the koch brothers have taken over political discourse they're monsters and they deserve to burn for the damage they have caused
I can see it on Republican Facebook now: "Gateway Pundit: Savior Of The Liberal Democrat Agenda Actually Just A Cuck Who's Ex-Wife Is Don Jr. Bang Piece. #MAGA #JUNIOR2024"
republicans aversion to public transit is some transparently racist shit my idiot father doesnt want the light rail in charlotte to extend any (it literally runs from one suburb to uptown parallel to one of the busiest streets in town + to the university area) because "thugs will use it to come down here and steal shit". the light rail there is very convenient for football games and stuff like that but it is super limited because of old whites that think blacks will joy-ride it to steal tvs
"Come down here and steal shit"...your parents are like 10 miles from the closest light rail station.
Doing federal ethics training. Not sure why I have to waste time on this since it doesn’t matter anymore
it sucks because the light-rail is always clean and convenient. just park on south boulevard somewhere and ride it uptown. but it would help the city and the citizens if it would run to southpark and montford and the airport sooooo much. extend it to huntersville and down to rock hill and relieve some of the crazy traffic on 77. but again, the inner city thugs would just ride out to huntersville, kill a few people, steal their tvs and then ride back down the light rail with their new bounty
my sister was worried about protests near her apartment after the police shooting 2 years ago. she lives beside southpark. i'm sure the southpark crowd was really tore up over a black guy getting shot
I would ride the shit out of the light rail if it went all the way down to Ft. Mill/Rock Hill. Would be good if it went up to the race track as well.
10 miles is just a hop, skip, and a jump away for thugs that want your tv. They used to be confined to an 8 mile radius (there’s a movie about this) but Obama enabled them to branch out.
This is a problem in the Phoenix metro too. Scottsdale refuses all light rail expansion because it will bring "riff raff" in. I live right along it so I can get some use out of it but for most people it's relatively inaccessible and useless.
idk. it is certainly a complicating factor in cities putting in transit solutions now. houston is trying to add in a lightrail. back when the city was largely undeveloped, blacks lived in the city. the city didn't have the foresight to build mass transit, and instead let commercial development engulf the city as whites commuted to work from their burbs and city outskirts. now that blacks have moved out, the city all of a sudden sees the necessity and utility of mass transit...which has always been undeniable. just look at cities in the NE. problem is now...where do you put it? you cannot go underground bc of a the topography. and they let the city get far too developed. so, i am not sure it's as much about white people wanting to block blacks and browns from access to where they live. i think it's more logistics, of how and where you build such a system.
