Brooks finished that round like he has a 6:30pm dinner reservation to make. Basically, "anti" celebrated winning his 2nd major
I’ve been to a US Open and a Players and the crowds at Bellerive this week blew away both of those events. They gotta put a regular tour stop in StL.
There’s some haters with the “they show tiger more playing shitty than the players at the top” talk but I agree seems to have overwhelming support
I tried to book a flight last night to watch Tiger and there were literally zero seats available from Chicago. Majors should be near bigger cities. (Yes, I do know how much I sound like an asshole)
Not a big golf guy but I’ve met Brooks Keopka a couple times; he’s an awesome guy, nice to everyone he meets, down to earth, and actively supports FSU (which I understand is not going to gain him universal acclaim). I never realized he would get to this level and it’s been pretty cool watching him become one of the top golfers on tour. I’ve never envisioned a scenario where’d I’d be rooting for him to fail but today was it. Tiger winning another major and making the comeback full circle is gunna (will hopefully) be on of my favorite sports moments ever.
Cool post. I've wondered this very thing since Keopka won his firs US Open.. I've read some articles about him being aloof. and arrogant.. I've wondered if It was just his laid back personality that gives off that perception ala Dustin Johnson type personality. Evidently when he was out with his serious injury earlier in the year there were only 3 Pros that reached out to him to see how he was doing out of concern for his health.. Keopka stated this in an article in Golfweek I read yesterday. The 3?? Phil, Bubba, and DJ.. It's an interesting read.. https://golfweek.com/2018/08/11/bro...ghts-on-cusp-of-another-major-victory-at-pga/
Finally in regards to Koepka, He's incredibly impressive.. He never gets rattled, he has the ultimate confidence in his game, and he has the all-around game to back it up.. He's and absolute force going forward. Side note: Has American Golf ever been this stacked?? It's incredible how loaded with talent America has right now. Spieth, Thomas, DJ, Koepka, Fowler, Reed, Simpson, Kisner, Woodland, all under than ages of 35, which in Golf is young..
All media tend to think Phil/Tiger/Kuch are locks. Bryson is in the lead for the last pick, but it will definitely depend on how the Fed-Ex plays out.
I love Phil and wouldn't be upset if he made the team but I would rather Finau at this point. One top 10 for Phil with 2 MCs and a bunch of also-rans over the past 10 tournaments. Plus he's 48 and slightly below .500 in the Ryder Cup. I'd probably go Dechambeau, Finau, Woods, and give Schauffele a shot.
I’d put kis over decham and finau, just based on experience alone. at least kis has the president’s cup experience. kisner and Phil had great chemistry in the president’s cup. people forget that. kuch is 6-7-2 in the Ryder cup. give me Tiger Phil Kis and reward decham with his play this year. finau didn’t even win a tournament.
The course hosting this year is perfect for Kisner. If I'm captain, I'm taking Tiger, Kuch, Kisner, and Xander. Phil can take Tiger's spot as an assistant captain
Furyk would get absolutely destroyed if Phil was not there as a player. Europe has had no issues leaving some of their better players though, I think Sergio missed 2012 and Poulter wasn't there in 2016
It's good seeing them so low on both rankings lists. Their two top bubble guys right now of Thorbjorn Olesen and Russell Knox don't match up with our bubble guys at all
I think Phil controls whether he’s playing more than Furyk does, at this point. He basically has an open invitation. If he feels up for it, he’s in. If not, he’ll assistant captain.
Brooks and DJ, even though they got beat by Rory and Pieters, is a bomber's dream. Keep them together JT and Rickie Reed and Spieth Bubba and Webb Tiger and Bryson Phil and Kis Easy pairings for 4balls. Sit the Phil and Bubba teams for 4somes. Trying to separate these into the three pods is tough. I think I'd say: BK, DJ, Tiger, Bryson JT, Rickie, Reed, Spieth Bubba, Webb, Phil, Kis
Phil hasn't played well since the West Coast Swing basically, but he will be on the team and the event will be better for it. I wouldn't pick him based on form, but he is 10th in points and is the 2nd most popular player in the game, so he deserves to go if he wants to be on the team as a player. The last pick will be tricky and lots of players have a good case for it. I would probably just go with the hottest player after the Fed-Ex off a list of about ~5 names. Finau makes a lot of birdies and can mash it. Bryson in 9th on points, is fairly long and also makes a lot of birdies, but is a potential headcase. Kis is a great putter who is steady with experience and it is good to have a player like that on the squad. Xander is pretty strong all around, but don't like him as much as the others. If I was making the picks now, I would go with Tiger, Phil, Byson, Finau. I think it will be Tiger, Phil, Kuch, Bryson. If you are going to pick Kuch then you don't need Kis. I think Woods will push for Bryson and that will be the last pick. Obviously if one gets hot or cold over the next month that could change things. Team should be strong, but worry that a few of the better names are struggling (Bubba, Phil, Speith) and you got some potential headcases on the squad (Bubba, Webb, Bryson).
My biggest worry is the golf course. It’s the opposite of the bomb and gouge mentality we see every week on Tour. I actually want Finau on the team. But his game probably doesn’t fit the course.
Get Kuch out of here, form hasn't been great all year. I like that Kis and Finau have been hot. I like Bryson's game but recently he's been rough.
