I can understand not being in the best state of mind when the prospect of losing all your earthly possessions is a very real possibility, but how in the hell do you leave your animals behind to fend for themselves?

 

I don't think that's a hot take at all. I couldn't imagine ditching my dog. People that leave them caged or tied up to drown should be fucking shot.

 

The only time I get it is if someone evacuates to a shelter that doesnt take animals. Not saying I would, I'd ride it out with Bear and send wife and kid to the shelter, but I can understand people that do it under those circumstances. Especially the elderly.

 

Fuck those people.

My cat is a part of my family and I could never leave him behind. There’s no scenario in which it slips my mind to get him so he isn’t left behind in a disaster situation

 

If the dog is tied up or caged, it’s one thing. Fuck those people. But if he’s freely roaming the house, neighborhood, porch when he’s found, it’s tough to assume. Some first responders can’t allow the people they rescue to bring dogs. My dog’s old now and you leave the front door open while you’re bringing shit in from the car or something, he doesn’t give a shit...but when he was younger, he’d make a mad dash for the door. I love my dog, but if he’d escaped while I was packing my family up to evacuate, I’m not putting that on hold to go search my neighborhood for hours.
