You haven't missed anything. The wording of the tweet is weird. What it means was that Ditto was transforming into Nutto (and thus, appearing as Nutto in the game). Everyone's Dittos are still Ditto. No one has Nutto.
so basically it is a Ditto disguised as a meltan for now, but something called a Meltan will be in the next mythical discovery, perhaps?
No, Meltan is just a marketing ploy/hype to get people to buy Pokemon LetsGo since linking it with Go will be the only way you can obtain one in LetsGo. Next Mythical discovery will likely be Jirachi.

That's not correct. You get the XP bonus when you get the notification. It's independent of when the other trainer gets the bonus. E.g., you can open a gfit right now to get the bonus. The other person just needs to know (or can check their news items right away) before they log in next time and have time to put on an egg before the notification hits. Note - Only issue is if the other person already has the game open at that time.
I read somewhere yesterday that the new version took away the egg bonus for xp? I haven’t paid attention so I’m not sure.
Aware of that, which is why people try to time it together. Otherwise the other person is literally just guessing and the only chance they have is if they know you've done it and they open the game and pop an egg before the report comes up. Not worth risking for 100k XP. HokieKabong
the Friends thing is a lot bigger than I initially realized for leveling, it's so much XP for minimal effort. I'm 900k into 34 already after dinging just a couple weeks ago and I'll have 3-4 more Best Friends hitting in the next 2 weeks which should push me most of the way through 35 towards 36.

any point to gifting once you're best friends? aside from getting stuff. just wondering if i should be prioritizing gifts to lower friends than my bff's first.
I sort by friendship level and work down the list, skipping best friends and the people I know I'll raid with or see (trade with) later. I try to send out gifts to everyone each day and open gifts at the end of the day. If I open any during the middle of the day, I try to prioritize those I know I won't see later and/or people who live far away (like you guys), to get eggs for distance. 15 best friends right now with a handful more coming in the next few days. It's so much easier to manage now with the indicator. We had a huge spreadsheet our group worked off of before, lol.
I only noticed the sort settings today for some reason. I try to give everyone gifts every day, but the window is still annoying to sort through. I only open gifts now when i need eggs or to finish my 20 opens at the end of the day.
I caught about 40 between both accounts in NYC. They are everywhere in Manhattan only. May have to go back tomorrow to load up. Didn’t have a lot of time and the convention center for comic con wasn’t great for spawns.
