one of the more wild stories I’ve seen in a long time. CNN breaking the news right now that he was inadvertently killed in an interrogation gone wrong.
Excuse my ignorance, but why is this such a huge deal? He was a Saudi citizen, right? But worked for the Washington Post? I'm not trying to downplay how fucked up it is for a govt to kill a reporter, on purpose or not. I just realize this type of stuff isn't all that uncommon around the world. There's a lot of countries where a negative comment about the ruler will get you killed. Is it a big deal bc he worked for the Post or is there more that I'm missing?
I just read that the interrogation didn't have clearance, so I'm sure the King will deny knowledge of it.
which no one, anywhere, will believe due to the nature of his death, where it occurred, and the people they sent to do it unless they have a hard on for dictators and have given the green light to attacks on the press
Also, the saudis are our bffs and our large, wet president talks about attacking journalists literally every day.
Thanks. I've read about it, just didn't know why a Saudi citizen being killed was getting so much play. Now I do.
It’s actually not very common for a recognized government to lure its citizen into a consulate in a foreign country and execute them.
King Salman doesn't know where is wife is. He isn't in charge. Trump citing his knowledge is deflection. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/u-s-officials-saudi-crown-prince-has-hidden-his-mother-n847391
This story feels like it was pulled from a movie, it’s almost too brazen a stunt to believe they actually thought they could get away with it.
there's a non-zero chance the US gave tacit approval or made them feel like we wouldn't care in any substantive way, especially with Kushners tight relationship, (which Trump already confirmed with his comments on arms sales)
Trump likes Saudi money, a lot, They feel like there will be no blowback and Trump will parrot anything they tell him. Same shit as the White supremacist shit. They feel emboldened so they are pushing boundaries.
They’re going to get away with this and more countries will start openly doing it. I’m quitting tomorrow if I’m a journalist
Because the CIA knew about the Saudis plan to abduct him and did absolutely nothing to stop it from happening. Also, Trump basically said that an arms deal with the Saudi's is far more important than someone disappearing/being killed.
It would be tight if we could see how many millions of dollars Trump gets a year from the Saudis at his hotels to see if it's compromising his ability to make an unbiased decision on behalf of the country. At least he doesn't have a liability like a family peanut farm though.
I just can't get over the fact that he said this on live television. I don't think anyone is naive enough to believe that America is above making shitty deals with questionable countries around the world. But to put this out there on live tv really is a bold move on our part.
It will start with a citizen before our government does it. The right is completely insane at this point
They buy a shit load of trump tower condos too Saudi Arabia, I get along with all of them. They buy apartments from me. They spend $40 million, $50 million," Trump told a crowd at an Alabama rally on Aug. 21, 2015, the same day he created four of the entities. "Am I supposed to dislike them? I like them very much."
