honest question: what is the reasoning in losing another senate race? i am a big fan but he didn’t beat ted in a senate race there so idk if he could gain enough ground in 2 years against a much stronger (relatively) opponent
I would guess it would be to continue momentum of winning down ticket races. A strong presidential candidate could presumably have the same effect, especially one from Texas. I just don't know if Beto is ready. He will get killed for his lack of experience, and yes I know there is a reality TV dumbass in the White House now.
I’ll trust the political instincts of a guy who has been in Texas politics for forty years over yours, honestly. Also you’re assuming Cornyn runs again. I think the changing demos of Texas, dying olds, and growth in name recognition could easily flip < 300k seats. And Ted Cruz’s unpopularity as a candidate is vastly overplayed because he’s so gross. Rs gonna R as has been stated.

For 2020, I am starting to be convinced it has to be Klobuchar. She is exactly the type that can appeal and carry the Rustbelt. She is as smart as anyone, can campaign about as good as anyone, doesn't have any Clinton type or 'east coast elite' baggage and has a blue color upbringing that you can build a story around. Perhaps people that know her better can weigh in a bit more.
The problem with flipping the NC Senate seat is that Tillis has a low profile, so hasn’t shot himself in the foot like McCrory. The Dems have no bench of candidate due in part to the gerrymandering and also being a red state for decades. The 3 Congressional candidates are old and uninspiring. Cooper can’t risk the Gov mansion and is pretty bland himself. Maybe the AG Price? McCready if he has won but he didn’t. Best hope is Trump sinks Tillis and party in a bigger wave most likely due to economy.

The country will elect a woman Republican before it elects a woman Democrat. There are still way too many men who won’t vote for a woman. That’s a terrible reality, because many of the better candidates are women. Look at the Trump numbers in 2016 split be gender. She couldn’t convince enough women to vote. Trump won men substantially.
Also too many women that won’t vote for a women for president. Same exact candidate with same exact campaign as Hillary but a man would have beat Trump
