Pro tip: Legendary animals are clean kills regardless. You can use deadeye and literally shoot the moose hundreds of times and you'll still have a perfect pelt.
I’m about 7% complete with this game and a couple of early thoughts Game is absolutely gorgeous Voice acting is incredible Unbelievably immersive, moreso than any game I can remember. I read reviews saying that the game felt lonely and I agree with that but it’s not a bad thing. I feel like I’m in this time period and just doing anything random from hunting or fishing or exploring or whatever keeps me entertained and engaged. I love it. This game is mind blowing. Rockstar is just too good
I blew through the story the first go around. On second play and taking my time to do all the random stuff. Problem is I’ve gathered a bunch of gold bars/jewelry bags/pocket watches/etc and don’t have a fence to sell it to yet.. Hoping I don’t get robbed.
Just got to Chapter 3. Haven't had a ton of time to play and I'm intentionally taking it slow. Spent like an hour hunting the legendary coyote by accident last night. Also the character development in this game is unreal. The dialogue they add during things that would otherwise be incredibly boring really adds a lot. I also like that I'm 30% done with the game and still receiving tutorials on new things I can do.
I haven't done this at all really because I like side missions and main story so much but it's time to go hunting I think.
i look for the white missions first, then usually click on a mission to set the waypoint, then get lost just hunting for 3 stars if i happen to come across one.
Been happening upon random people’s campsite. They typically have carcusses hung. Kill them then cut down said carcass for a perfect pelt.
past few campsites ive come across appear to be empty, until i loot the box. then a stranger comes out of the woods and threatens me, which forces me to kill them and burn them in the fire.
Also check the hat they had on; sometimes it's one of the rare/hard to find ones I spent a lot of time looking for legendary gator only to find out it can't be hunted until after a mission in chapter 4...smdh
I picked up a good looking hat but then dropped it because I didn’t want to lose my legendary white bison hat...
They shine/look metallic laying on the ground and do similarly using eagle eye to look around. An example is the guy who takes over the pig farm after you kill the old gunslinger who used to have it.
Dammit, I had no idea about hats until now. How does this work? Do you put it on and you have the hat from there on out? Are you able to store the hats somehow?
The ones that aren't generic hats show up in wardrobe under a different tab like bought and crafted and found hats
Anybody found the tri corner pirate hat? It’s apparently inside a wrecked ship on an island near Chapter 3’s camp
yah this is the first ive heard about special hats, now im going to waste more of my time scanning for hats. FML.
I found a special Union/Civil War Calvary hat in a burned out Fort pretty early on. It saves in your clothing even if you drop it/swap it while out playing
Yep, been wearing it since I found it. The townsfolk say I look ridiculous but they don't know high fashion. I was there to bag an iguana to finish out the satchel upgrades which I highly recommend. If you get the legend of the east satchel, it allows you to carry up to 99 of almost anything.
eh more like the brother that goes to his nerdy brother's LAN party with a gateway 2000 computer when everyone there has gaming CPUs and neckbeards
I thought all glowing items on the ground just meant they were available to pickup. piece of shit guns are glowing on the ground all the time vs. guns that people drop that aren't glowing = glowing ones you can pick up and not glowing you can't pick up. Is this just a rule for hats?
through chapter 4 each new chapter occurs when you move to a new campsite. not sure if that continues or not. Railroads are your friend. Once you get to chapter 3-4 there's railroad stops within a 2-3 minute ride from camp. Only things I donate to camp are game meat and anything that says "donate for crafting" when hovering over it on the Pearson donation menu. Anything else goes to the Trapper (pelts/carcass) or Fence because it means Pearson can't craft anything with that kind of hide/carcass. To continue to add to this - most of the time it shows the animals pelt rating when you look at the trail in eagle eye vision so you can tell which one to track & not have to deal with binoculars or checking their * rating when you're aiming at a group of them
Compson Side quest spoiler Spoiler anybody else come across the Compson quest, to retrieve his items from his house? Anybody else shoot him in the head?
Haven’t shot any random folk like that yet until tonight accidentally blew a hole in the Denis Fences face asking him about monk business. Please tell me he respawns
He does. I did it on purpose, holed up in his shop and killed a pile of cops, then looted their bodies, let them kill me, and sold all their goods after. After about a day, he respawn with a massive bandage on his head and gives you shit when you go into the store.
Not sure if already posted but make sure you are taking legendary animal items to the fence to craft the appropriate trinket. They give you tangible bonuses (the two I have are +10% exp bonus to deadeye and to stamina) so it's worth getting them as soon as you can.
When you put it on a message will pop up that says you’ve found a special hat and it’s been added to your wardrobe
I was innocently practicing my power slides in Saint Denis last night and shot some lady in the head. 15 dead bodies later I escaped with a moderate bounty. Damn right trigger instead of right bumper.
Yeah I don’t have enough material to make anything with my legendary bear skin so I guess it’s just gotta sit there till I do
Spent about an hour and a half getting killed by the law in Saint Denis because people made fun of my bear hat which, as we all know, is a crime punishable by death (via a sawed off to the genitals)
He’s open I just don’t have materials to combine and make anything he has with the legendary bear pelt.
I think if you get the legendary bison you can make stuff with the legendary bear. The bison was pretty easy to get.
Take all legendary pelts to the trapper. Take perfect pelts to Pearson until you've satisfied the requirements for all the different satchels.
