my boss is on a committee regarding ending cash bail in Colorado. It is a great idea in principal but very difficult to put into place without a financial commitment from the state.
I know way too many lawyers I went to school with toiling away at less than $50k as a PD or prosecutor that this would wreck. They knew this was a risk on the margins but nearly 100% rejection is insane.
They allowed people to reapply to fix errors. The system sucks. They don't tell you anything at all about your application until the 10 years pass
that may have been the case when it started, but you can now get your loans certified every year. The DOE has argued that the certification is no guarantee that they’ll be forgiven, but a large majority of the people who have been rejected had issues with their loans.
