I could tell Clemson was good on Saturday. I also thought we played a horrific game. Turns out CU was just fucking unreal. We aren’t in their stratosphere yet but we are gaining on Bama.
1 loss vs 2 losses and clearly losing as big to clemson as bama did is not enough of a worse result than playing bama somewhat closer but also not being in the game.
I imagine everyone had their top 25 set other than 1 and 2 before the game and then slotted Clemson 1 bama 2 and hut submit
Funny how we didn’t get that treatment in 2012 Granted, we got the final ranking we deserved that year. But just interesting how the voters work sometimes
I don't think that's entirely true. We had similar losses to Clemson, but they made it a round further than us and had a good win over a top 5 Oklahoma team to do that
I think it it pretty simple, I would go Clemson Bama Nd Oklahoma Osu Texas Georgia Can’t see any reason to mess with that top 4, seems pretty cut and dry. after that I could see some changes. Osu and Oklahoma over Nd is such a joke
I don’t disagree. I just think ND is even with Bama this year so the one point should mean something. It’s obvious that the SEC was trash now. That and I just like being #2 not that it matters at all.
Love the pettiness, but bama was the second best team this year and, in my opinion, ou was a top 5 team
Clemson OC had some interesting comments to Bruce Feldman after the game. Basically said NDs defense - particularly in the secondary - caused way more prep and in-game matchup issues than Bama’s did.
ND is ranked where they should be OSU & OU have better wins than ND (obviously OSU has the horrendous loss) I think we all would've taken 12-1 preseason, top 5 finish. Great year
Saw that, really interesting. They had a month to prep for ND and a week to prep for Bama but Nd sounds like it was the bigger challenge. Maybe the Bama dudes bitching about Tosh are correct.
i watched the game last night and at the end when they ran that 10 min drive to close out the game, i looked to my wife and said - "I can't believe it, but Clemson broke Bama"
The II podcast said after the game Venables sought out Chip Long after the game and told him it was the most difficulty he had preparing for an offense. High praise
Nd really needs to get better players, and I am not talking about all over but just a few more of the elite guys on both sides.
Sounds like elite coaches are having a hard time with scheme. It’s time to abandon holier than thou sfuff and ‘cruit.
Nd just really can’t miss too much on the guys like Wilkins and tee Higgins. I think I heard on one of the podcast that these were definitely takes at Nd, it’s tough to beat out the clemson’s of this world but not impossible with continued success
I think yall played us better than bama did in te trenches fwiw. THAT'S where championships start. Gotta get a difference maker at qb next. I think building depth and getting an elite qb is what yall are missing among a few other things, but yall are kinda close to competing.
Yeah I'm going to back off the Vaughn hate a bit. Ross is ridiculous and Vaughn had good coverage on that Higgins catch. He's just not elite, but he's not Gary Gray.
Truth. Every pass we completed vs #Notre Dame Fighting Irish was contested. I mean that 2nd quarter was basically 3 plays that made the difference in the game being a blowout or a 4th quarter game. Not saying yall are better than bama , but we definitely had more trouble matching up with you guys.
Fair, but lets not act like the Clemson game was a one time thing. The Pitt game was a shit show that was written, directed and starred Donte Vaughn
The question is what the fuck happened? By many accounts he was a standout during the spring & summer but something happened and it fell apart as the season began
You won’t convince me that a 2 loss Oklahoma team and osu who lost by 29 to Purdue (same team that got obliterated by auburn) should be ranked ahead of Nd. Syracuse was a pretty good win.
This is why I'm not too bent out of shape with the result of the game. With Julian Love in the game, it was 10-3 Clemson with the TD coming on a missed read by Coney. With Love out of the game it was 20-0. QB is definitely what is holding us back. You guys got a great one with Lawrence and will be tough for anyone to beat for the next few years at least.
Seems like it is mostly his ball skills/awareness. Without going back to look, I'm pretty sure that he is usually in position to make a play which is great for a CB at his size, but he has trouble making a play on the ball. Unfortunately this isn't something that most CBs can pick up, most either have it or they don't.
probably not, i guess it depends what you are looking for but i think nd should`ve had the benefit of the doubt on this one by going 12-1 with the only loss being to the best team in the country. I get it i guess
So what’s a bigger jump, ND hiring MAC level coaches or an NFL team hiring a tier 2 power 5 HC that was recently fired and demoted to a college OC.
Taking the RB coach too. Problem is nobody on the west coast is good enough to take recruits away from SC anyways so regardless of coach they will go there.
