The room is perfect, literally wouldn’t change a thing about it. It’s all the external shit they fuck up, namely the subcontracting of the zealous security (unless it comes to hecklers at a comedy show in which case they get a free pass). Get your shit together Iron City management.
They should have made a cut through to the restroom from the left side facing the stage. Otherwise I agree.
really? i really dislike the room's set up. and beyond the security aspect, there's almost always some douchey subset in the crowd regardless of who's playing, something that i just rarely ever find at saturn
I like the size, large enough to book national touring acts but small enough to feel intimate. It’s basically the workplay theater x 1.25, not a bad sight line in the room, sound is always good, exposed brick, lights are good, stage is an appropriate height. Im also a fan of the horseshoe second deck. Curious what you don’t like about the set up?
Currently trying to get South for a bachelor party right now. 65 is fucked. Greensprings is fucked. Everything is bad
I personally love going to concerts at iron city as I am there more for the drinking than the music usually.
Mainly the clunkiness. The combo of the seating area and beyond is just weird. I also don’t agree about the aesthetic, but that’s totally a personal preference. The exposed brick and what not feel like contrived trendy shit. I do think the size of the venue is great; I just wish it attracted a less objectionable crowd.
Just saw on the news that the zoo is having a special event tomorrow for Groundhogs Day. The groundhog is in hibernation though, so they're using a opossum instead
I wonder what changes they’re going to make. I think we only went twice, but thought it was a really cool place, but tough to sustain in the winter (at least, I wouldn’t try to go if it was cold outside). I think i suggested more local beers.
Pretty sure you'll be able to order food and drink from the same line. Also, saw Fred Armisen at the Lyric tonight. Great show, great crowd. He was very complimentary of our city, mentioned the architecture walking downtown and visiting some of the civil rights trail. He was a big fan of the Lyric as well (acoustics, ambience, etc...) My takeaway is pretty much the exact opposite of the Hanibel Buress show at Iron City.
My buddy was at one of the surfer rock bands shows a few years ago at Work Play and the guy led off with something about "we love Birmingham" and "especially the hot dogs".
Kopped an original copy of Europe 72 this morning at seasick records for $30. It was nice to be in Birmingham
i swear this question has been asked in some form like 50 times itt so apologies in advance. am eating at the fancy side of Bottega for the first time ever tonight - what’s my dress code? Or to tailor the question more to my style, what’s the most casual I could get away with without looking like an asshole?
I've got afternoon obligations or I'd be there. I'm psyched, especially after watching ORL vs ATL tonight.
I just hope the franchise does well enough to stick around. If they can just make it to the new stadium is completed. I would love to have a Birmingham team to support and follow for longer than a year or two.
