And everyone impacted by that industry collapsing in on itself largely on response to Amazon That's a lot of people
Not to mention all of the harm that the lost tax revenue caused. We missed out on a lot of public works opportunities
Can we mention all the good it did for consumers by offering a vastly larger collection of books at reduced prices?
Should add that I'm basing that barb on polling and the behavior of politicians who say they are for it It's a very small coalition
Anyway, not trying to get into a pissing war. I agree that in recent years Amazon has been as guilty as anyone with regards to abusing the legal system to get ahead.
But this end result was always the goal. It’s why they lost money for so long, because they believed they could get here in the end. You can’t say “they used to be good for the consumer but now aren’t”. “Now” was always the plan for the consumer.
Of course. I use Amazon every day. I wish there was more competition for my money, but at the moment there isn’t.
Not reading through the 4 pages of posts since last night, but I read an article this morning that said they actually got like a $127 million refund this year.
Siap. $11.2 billion profit in 2018, zero federal taxes. For the second year in a row. https://www.yahoo.com/finance/news/amazon-taxes-zero-180337770.html
A video making the rounds on Twitter shows a massive Amazon blimp floating over a neighborhood and unleashing an army of delivery drones. Before you panic at what one Twitter user called a "borderline dystopian" image, the video is fake. It seems a tech-savvy Twitter user created the blimp with computer-generated imagery and posted it online, where it took on a life of its own But the idea of an Amazon blimp isn't entirely fictional — it's based on a patent Amazon filed in 2014.
Was just about to ask this - have never seen an Amazon blimp but they have their hands in everything these days so nothing is implausible.
Amazon’s $1.4 billion air cargo hub breaks ground at Cincinnati CVG on May 14. Since the deal was announced in early 2017, there has been a scramble by other companies to position themselves near the hub. CVG cargo traffic was up 28.5% in 2018, and both 2017 and 2018 set new cargo records for the airport. For 2018, CVG was the fifth fastest growing air or sea port among the 450 largest in the US. The four others are all seaports within 100 miles of each other on the Gulf Coast dealing with oil/gas. Amazon hasn’t even broken ground yet.
I just find it ironic that nobody goes after companies that stash cash overseas to avoid taxes. Then amazon follows the law and isn’t doing anything shady, but gets attacked.
Should amazon just willingly pay taxes and not maximum shareholder gain? If you have a problem with the system, call your congressman.
I called my congressman and requested that the US government seize all of Amazon’s assets and IP and to commoditize the platform through government ownership. What should I do now?
I just shipped 3 Amazon employees Amazon branded tooth brushes using Amazon’s platform. Am I doing enough?
I’ve asked my congressman where you can pick up your government employee badge. You’re welcome for all the favors.
I don’t venture out much, so apologies. I’ll let Jeff Bezo’s know of your kindness and maybe he’ll shoot you a gift card.
Nah I’m at the corporate office. There are those here too though. You’ll just get fired or put on a development plan if you don’t move the needle.
Bezos has down wonders to fight unionization by convincing the workers that their coworkers are the enemies they need to look out for - not management.
