We couldn't swing a deal we liked using prospects in the off-season. Now there's not much left worth dealing for on the market. The pressure is on this front office to do something which we all know they won't. If anything we have probably fucked ourselves even more because teams know we're desperate to get something done.
Feeding fans what amounts to lies and now trying to spin this offseason as anything other than an unmitigated disaster is a joke. You can’t let your direct competitors out spend you to this degree and expect to get by. Why should we as fans waste our time with this?
We have the same fucking bullpen that blew ass last year. It’s unbelievable. We had plenty of flexibility for pen arms on 3 year type of deals. We have Darren O’Day. Another injured guy to go with our infirmary of a team
Then doubling down after everyone got pissed off. The second "speaking down the the idiot fans" was even worse
Eh. We won the division and didn’t lose much of anything significant unless you consider Zuk and Anibal significant. We actually added, just not to the extent everyone else did.
The Nats and thr Phillies both got substantially better. We lost ground. If you think we are gonna win the division just because we won it last year, I feel bad for yah. Oh, our entire pitching staff (save Ace) is currently dead
Phillies don't have much after Nola. That's gonna be a possible issue. Dont sleep on the Mets. Two legit aces, solid back end of the pen and an improved offense.
Honestly, we could finish anywhere between 1st and 4th and it wouldn't surprise me. We destroyed our division opponents last year and they all got a lot better.
I didn’t insinuate any of your counterpoints. Our staff isn’t dead at all and you’re overreacting to the nth degree. Both the Phillies and Nats were also so much better on paper last year and didn’t pan out. We also get a full season of Ronnie.
Nats have a full season of Soto too. I'm being a bit dramatic, yes. But we went absurdly cheap, didn't want to be aggressive on any front and have been passed. Upgrade OF... FAIL Upgrade Rotation....FAIL Upgrade Bullpen... Didn't even try Remove 3rd best hitter on our team for hopefully an All Star that's been hurt a lot recently?? Pass Not the most exciting offseason
I think O’Day is definitely an upgrade to the pen which was from the Gausman trade. That’s probably why we are a little less hesitant to make a move. Agree about Starters and OF but it doesn’t mean we are losing the division because of it.
No we will likely lose the division because we have a manager who wants to bat a below average hitter lead off and will mismanage the pitching staff.
Yea we’re essentially swinging for the WC from the word go. It feels like a division that beats itself up and allows another division to grab the WCs. Best case scenario is we can stay within 6 games of nats around the trade deadline. Our flexibility there is literally our only edge gained this offseason, but it’s meaningless if we fall behind.
Let's be super aggressive and trade prospects at the deadline so we only get the for half the year vs the entire year Solid work AA
It's nice to have flexibility, but we also really didn't do much to keep up with the division. With the massive jump in revenue, ton of money that went off he books, a real team would have been able to do both So let's be aggressive once we are "only" six games back and hope we can over come.
True, we might beat ourselves up - but we also collectively get to beat up on the AL Central in interleague, which will boost the NL East WC chances somewhat.
Placed Braves 17/1 and cubs 12/1 at Venetian last week. Team I care about (Braves) and team in city I live (Cubs). How’d I do? EDIT - btw I was at that rediculous Braves/Cubs game in April at Wrigley last season with driving freezing rain and in the 30’s. It was surreal seeing Wrigley so empty. And Jeff Blauser is my favorite Brave if we’re doing that.
Probably. But I don’t like any of Yankees/Sox/Astros and I thought 17/1 was at least not unfavorable.
One of my best friend’s little sister used to bang Jeff Blauser and has free Braves tickets whenever she wants /starrybra
once again, it must be said . This should piss off every single one of us Revenue "surged" to $442 million in 2018, from $386 million in 2017 (14.5% increase), and up a whopping 69% from 2016 which was $262 million. Operating profit before depreciation and amortization surged to $94 million for 2018, up 7 million from the year before. Yet as we currently stand on Monday March 4th, we sit at 11 million below 2018 payroll ($126 million at end of last season, currently $115 million) Liberty Media said that from 2017 to 2018 the Braves’ revenue from baseball rose 9 percent to $404 million and revenue from real-estate development rose 153 percent to $38 million. "Great team performance brought us postseason revenue, which we certainly hope will continue in 2019. But we don't necessarily budget for it." We already talked about this last week, but Reduced debt to $494 million at year's end, compared to debt of $626 million on September 30th. So while all the other teams were busy spending hundreds of millions to improve their organizations, we spent $130 million reducing debt instead mostly because they have to borrow another $145 million in debt . However, Liberty Media indicated the braves will borrow more money to fund the next phase of construction at the Battery. That phase is expected to cost approximately $200 million, including $145 million in debt, the company said. The Braves ended 2018 with $107 million in "cash and cash equivalents", Liberty said.
I still don't understand how that poll rating this offseason from Scott Coleman saw more A and B grade votes versus C and D. The Braves were division champs in 2018, but are now predicted to be fighting for 3rd in 2019. How could anyone grade the offseason an A after that?
Have you looked at the offseason through the lense of real estate development??? The Braves organization has put them self in position to continue to expand their real estate holdings and come in 1st place in Marietta for Housing built. That's an A, brother
