That’s not true at all. He’s been horrible in the playoffs. He never has a plan B. He’s just lucky that plan A almost always works. We haven’t played any different and have made no adjustments outside of line tweaks. The fact that we didn’t practice after game 1 and then came out flat in game 2 is a fireable offense in its own right. They just gave him a contract extension a month ago so it won’t happen but he should be fired. Who gives a shit about a record breaking regular season when you get swept round 1 and your team looks this bad? Can’t change players because they all have no trade clauses.
It’s basically the Sens circa 2000 with Jacques Martin. The talent was there but the compete level wasn’t. Stevie Y almost fired Cooper a couple summers ago. At this point who do you replace him with?
Not really worried about who. A new voice is needed and it has to be someone who will actually coach. Cooper let’s the players do their own thing for the most part. Usually when a “players coach” goes stale and the players take advantage of that coaches respect, you go the opposite. Lightning need someone who is capable of cracking the whip.
Just signed an extension a few weeks ago. I highly doubt he gets fired but he should. The problem is we will probably be great next regular season so we will have to keep him only to choke in the playoffs again. He probably gets fired after that.
No chance. But if I’m a Lightning fan, I’m not super optimistic on playoff success while he’s at the helm.
I’m shocked at how hands off he is as a coach. Mostly all the coaching is done by assistants and the players get the ability to do a lot of what they want. Sometimes that can work. The thought is that this team has the veteran leaders to lead themselves. The facts have shown that when a team gets an edge on us in the playoffs, we can’t adjust. We have had a few games against Washington, Boston, and Pittsburgh in recent years that we won where we had no fight winning. That hardened his stance of never making adjustments. The team needs a hardass coach. The extension before the playoffs for cooper is clearly a mistake and means they likely keep him. Don’t think Tampa fans will care about the regular season next year after this though. This is the most fickle city outside of maybe south Florida when it comes to sports teams. Will be interesting to see how it plays out. Our owner has invested almost $1 billion in the redevelopment of the land downtown next to the arena so I expect that he makes all decisions with the protection of that project in mind. If the fans jump off the bandwagon maybe he fires cooper.
Seems like an overreaction to fire Cooper imo. I understand playoffs are way more important than the regular season but it’s three games. Margins are slim and shit can happen That being said, I still wouldn’t be shocked to see Tampa come back to win the series.
Also the no practice before game 2 and coming out flat for the game seems more like a correlation than a causation.
They hadn't played a meaningful game in over a month. That isn't the time to be giving people breaks. I wouldn't fire him, but it wasn't a good coaching move.
CBJ is a good team also - a good team who made moves at the deadline and finally starting to come together. Can't just shit on TB, they deserve it, but CBJ deserves some of the credit also.
There was no need to extended him when they did. Gunning him won’t be an issue; another team will hire him instantly so it’s not like they will be on the hook for the next few years.
I will admit that I’m not that familiar with how NHL coach contracts typically work. Are you saying it’s normally done with full offset language so if the coach is fired and then hired by another team, the team that fired the coach would only be on the hook if the new team is paying him less and whatever the difference is? I figured it was closer to the way college coaches are where a lot of it is guaranteed regardless. That would make the decision interesting. Not sure how you can keep him. Team had 3 shots in the 1st period of game 3 down 2-0. His plan A is good and works 80-90% of the time. He has shown he doesn’t have a plan B. To win 4 series and win the cup, you usually need a plan B at some point. They need a new voice.
almost all coaches have offset language along with a minimum salary they must be paid to still get money from their old team. EX. Q is getting 4.25 from the Panthers next year because that was the minimum he had to make to require Chicago to cover the 1.75 million that gets him to the 6 mill he would have made.
Im not giving Kadri a pass. I dont like anything that involves the stick. But he deserved a good ass beating. The shit he did that game, he knows nothing will come of it. From the offsetting penalties when he punched Kadri in the face, tackled him and then kept punching him. The knee on knee not called. Hitting Marleau like he did. The refs let it get that far.
Did we ever get another angle aside from the one replay from the wide where you can't tell whether he extended his knee laterally or not?
Why would he get a hearing for a clean hit? The knee on knee contact was caused by Kadri trying to juke last second, hence no penalty or suspension.
so theoretically speaking, if a guy moves at the last second and his head becomes the principal point of contact, it's a dirty hit by NHL DOPS standard, right? is a knee different? and if so, why? I know there's a question or targeting, but the league has been very inconsistent with it.
His leg only extended in line with his body because Kadri moved. Put it this way, not all knee on knee contact is a penalty, but you can’t make knee on knee contact without having your leg extended somewhat.
Is it me or have then been a lot of actual fights so far? I don’t count that Stamkos sucker punch, but usually I feel like we don’t see many fighting majors come April. This year seems different.
He clearly wasn't right in games 1 and 2. I get that it's the playoffs but no Bueno if he came back too early after a concussion.
True story, me and a couple buddies snuck into Folingos wedding. I shook Carrie Underwoods hand there. End of look at me post.
is it really any better? the guy who can't handle young players just got handed a roster full of them.
All the retread options left after Q were meh. AV was probably the best of what was left. It was him or go with a first time guy.
