Yea their two courses are Manakin & Sabot, Manakin is my favorite by far. I'm sure you've seen it, but the county is having a few community input meetings for Belmont over the next few weeks (1st one is actually tonight). It really would be a shame if they get rid of that course--hosted the 1949 PGA Champ won by Sam Snead and designed by the famous golf course architect A.W. Tillinghast.

We should get out sometime this spring/summer....although I've never met any TMB friends irl :ohdear:

Planning on stopping by one of the input meetings although I fear they’re just going through the motions and their mind is made up. I’ve debated joining Jefferson Lakeside (Donald Ross design) since it’s so close to me and the dues/initiation fee aren’t crazy. If Belmont ceases to exist that’ll probably make the decision for me. Definitely down to get a round in sometime. Maybe a few other RVA tmb guys would be interested in an outing

I've played twice this year with the last being a miserable experience. had the shanks, and my putting was worse. Just found out im playing Boot Ranch on friday and will not have time to hit the range before then (not that it would matter). Im just hoping muscle memory pulls me through. [IMG]

It's very possible that this won't work for anyone else, but the last time I had the shanks, I went to the range and forced myself to hit half shots with a short iron. The trick was I didn't use my wrists at all throughout the entire shot. Forced myself to do this for about an hour then it all started coming back. The majority of the time that someone's swing goes completely haywire, it's something very basic that you're doing wrong. Just go back to the basics and you'll usually find your problem.

I’m completely in my head about my shafts. My go to shot off the tee is a fade, but I draw my irons. It’s got me messed up off the tee and I’ve been yanking my driver. Not good.

I was going through some similar issues. This offseason I worked on taking the left side out of play and wanted to hit a baby fade as a stock shot with everything. Was going really well until a couple of weeks ago. Was hitting a fade with the irons but kept hitting dead pulls left with the driver. Got on the Trackman last week and it helped immensely

Have you tried trying to hit the ball to "right field" on the range? Really helped me a couple years ago

Can't say it enough but get a down the line video using a slowmotion app like Hudl technique and figure out what the miss is. Heel or toe. It's probably off the heel and the clubhead is getting over the line and outside the hands at P6 assuming it's not a low point issue.

Yes this is essentially what the numbers were telling me. My path was getting TOO far left for the first time in my life so I had to feel like I was hitting baby draws to get the path a little less left.

Feel vs real is so crazy. Golf is fucking hard. Haha

When I got fitted I was hitting a fade with both. The only change I’ve made is I replaced my iron heads. I immediately started drawing my irons with the new heads and I can just feel myself “on top” of the slot on my downswing. I believe the irons are more toe weighted than what I wasn’t originally fit for. Now that I play much less it’s more pronounced and I’m trying to take two different swings to the course. I’m probably fucked until I can get in with a pro.

Absolutely. I just got back into playing tournament golf 2 years ago and it’s a massive to commitment to get where you want to go. The highs and lows are brutal, but rewarding when you hit a new peak with the game.

Hitting a golf ball flush is like drugs for me. Especially with an iron stuck close for a kick in

There’s no question that I have a physical reaction to a well struck shot. I’m sure there’s a dopamine release and the whole nine yards. Not even sure what I would compare it to. Seeing a pitch well and hitting a baseball on the screws is close, but I never played long enough to really get that full experience.

On that note I’m pretty amazed at how good golf tech has gotten. I don’t have a clue what the actual numbers flesh out to but bad swings are simply penalized less these days. For a mid to high capper like me it makes such a difference. Even 5-8 yards of improved dispersion can mean the difference between being OB or in a hazard or staying up. Just one of those a round makes such a big score difference.

    New brewery is pretty good.

You can spend hours and hours on the Cradle. They have speakers playing music out there and a full bar. Plus the rate is daily, instead of per round. So it’s a good warm up before a round, and then a great place to just hang and put down a bunch of bets after your round.

Watch your distance from the ball (not too close). Watch getting out on your toes bringing you closer to the ball. Watch your hands drifting out and away from your body at impact. Last explanation is probably rolling the face open on the way back.

Pretty interesting tidbit on the NLU pod yesterday with KVV: Soly said he got a DM from a guy that was near DJ waiting to hit his approach into 13. The wind started whipping a little and DJ said "Jesus, I'm glad I'm through 12 already." Think it was the next group when Brooks and someone else rinsed it

Just got fitted for new irons yesterday and the change from my old Hogans to any of the new clubs was incredible. Bad swings just aren’t punished (as severely). Excited to find out what ways I can overcome these advantages on an actual course!

Going to get fitted for the Driver and hybrid next week as he didn't have the shaft I needed in stock. Any recs?

Those irons are sick. You will love them. I’ve been fitting a lot of people in the Epic Flash lately, but a lot depends on your SS and ball flight. Different drivers fit different players better. The good news is that most are adjustable for loft and direction so as long as the shaft fits you can play with it as needed after a fitting if something isn’t quite right.

Hit the Epic Flash but with only a stiff shaft and really liked it (also hit an M5). I have a pretty quick swing speed so my guess is it will change a lot with the x-stiff.

Have never owned a hybrid and literally don't carry a fairway wood, will be interesting to see if I can even hit it.

If you need lower launch/spin the epic flash sub zero will be the best driver on the market for you. You could also do M5 with the weights forward. M5 has the tensei orange which is an awesome shaft. Low to mid launch. Controllable for high speed without just being a telephone pole. Rory Tiger and others use it.

Swinging it. Was at the range when I heard something after a hit and decided to take one more good whack and the club head went flying. Was a hand me down 20 y/o Titleist that had seen better days (and that I wasn't great with anyways) so not a huge loss.

As you can probably tell, certainly not an expert on any of this. The guy fitting me did mention that a more lofted driver (previous one was an 8.5 degree) could help with some trajectory issues but obviously don't want to get too much loft. Looks like the Epic Flash's lowest loft is 9 degree?

The 9 degree can be adjusted down to 8. The sub zero model has more weight positioned close to the face to bring ball flight down. Ideally you want a reasonably high launch (12-14 degrees) but with low spin.
