I hate the way late game in the playoffs is officiated. Vegas could easily have 3-4 PPs so far in OT. Sharks are blatantly grabbing anyone who gets a step on them.
Great play by Karlsson. That penalty is going to go down as one of the worst in history. Tough break for Vegas.
From a pure entertainment standpoint, that 3rd and OT were pure bliss for the neutral fan. That major penalty call, though it ultimately helped make the game close, was still an extremely tough call on Vegas. I get why they will be furious about that for a while.
Sharks just rolled 4 D most of the way out. Burns played more than half the game. 6 minutes more than any other player on the Sharks, 11 minutes more than anyone on Vegas.
Having said it was a brutal call, it’s still on Vegas to not completely implode there on the PK. That PK was even worse than the penalty.
That goal was challenged by the Sharks and confirmed by Toronto . Not quite sure how you can compare the two.
It is as far away from a cow’s opinion as it gets my dude. Vegas got absolutely jobbed, the refs clearly didn’t see the penalty (they told Gallant that Pavelski was crosschecked to the head) and dished out the major on instinct. It is one of the most impactful missed calls that I have ever witnessed in any sport.
Here's the NHL rulebook on Cody Eakin's cross-check/double high stick with blood for those wondering: Rule 59 – Cross-checking 59.1 Cross-checking - The action of using the shaft of the stick between the two hands to forcefully check an opponent. 59.2 Minor Penalty - A minor penalty, at the discretion of the Referee based on the severity of the contact, shall be imposed on a player who “cross checks” an opponent. 59.3 Major Penalty - A major penalty, at the discretion of the Referee based on the severity of the contact, shall be imposed on a player who “cross checks” an opponent (see 59.5). 59.4 Match Penalty – The Referee, at his discretion, may assess a match penalty if, in his judgment, the player attempted to or deliberately injured his opponent by cross-checking. The minimum they could've called on that play was a double minor for high sticking 60.3 Double-minor Penalty - When a player carries or holds any part of his stick above the shoulders of the opponent so that injury results, the Referee shall assess a double-minor penalty for all contact that causes an injury, whether accidental or careless, in the opinion of the Referee. I probably would've went with the latter option but they were well within the rulebook in calling Eakin for a major+game. Completely careless with his stick (twice) led to an unfortunate injury.
That game was something else last night. I can understand VGK being pissed, that was a pretty soft crosscheck, 2 mins max if anything. Pavelski with a bit of a sell-job too IMO. Anyway, an ideal scenario tonight (for me) in DC is Carolina winning in the 8th OT. I want home ice again, I don't wanna have to deal with Ovi.
Have had a shit eating grin the entire day AMA What better way to crush Leafs hearts than coming back from 1-0, 2-1, and 3-2 deficits in the series and winning. After game 5 you just know 80% of that fanbase was looking past Columbus into the ECF.
It seemed to me that that was secondary to the contact he then had with Stastny after the initial cross check.
My 10 year old asked me during the game why Toronto kept taking their best guys off of the power play so much.
Agreed. He purposely crossed checked him and it resulted in a guy hitting his head on the ice and being knocked out. It could have been given as not a major but Eakins is a fucking dumb ass. You're up 3 goals with 10 minutes left and the only way the Sharks can get back in the game is if Vegas takes a penalty. Also ya it was a bad call, but how about not giving up 4 goals, sometimes you have to play through the call.
Horrible call. If it was a penalty at most it’s two minutes. But I’ve seen worse teams kill off a 5 minute major so in the end that’s on Vegas.
I agree with this. I would feel robbed if I was Vegas but 4 power play goals in a 5 minute span is a collapse that we haven’t seen since.........the lightning in game 1 2 weeks ago.
Defense is really all we need. We have 2 reliable defense in Reilly and Muzzin. Dermott blows, Zaitzev is a bottom tier defenseman. Hainsey is old. Gardnier is the worst hockey player of all time. You need that one very good guy, someone like Brent Burns, where you need him to play 35 mins in a Game 7. We dont have that. Thats why I was very team get rid of Nylander for a very solid defenseman.
Agree you need that #1 take control of the game type D. IF he was a couple years younger I’d pay the price to get Doughty. Nylander isn’t getting that done tho.
Im very much a Doughty fan. I wanted to make that trade and give Doughty everything but now hes resigned and that aint happening. Doughty is also a guy that loves where he lives in the nice weather and nobody bothers him. Its hard to get these Canadian boys back home after living in the Sun. I love the Toronto area but why would I want to move back when Im rolling with the convertible down to work, golfing 3 times a week and it only dropped below 60 degrees 3 times this year.
Hope Carolina win tonight. I like Washington and was rooting for them to win it last year but want to see some new blood win the Cup this year. That said, I think Washington devastates them.
It can be. But more guys comeback than stay. All depends on how long you’ve been there and if you’ve put down roots..local girl, kids. For Doughty it’s about slaying bird and the lifestyle as well so little chance he wants to go back to GTA.
