SP Severino SP Paxton SP Happ SP Tanaka SP Sabathia SP/LR German MR Holder MR Kahnle MR Cessa MR Betances MR Britton MR Ottavino CL Chapman C Sanchez C Romine 1B Voit 2B Torres 3B Andujar SS Gregorius IF LeMahieu OF Judge OF Gardner OF Hicks OF Frazier DH Stanton So I seriously doubt we ever see this roster, but it would a) be sexy as hell from a pitching perspective and b) force the team to part ways with/send down a lot of hitters that are contributing at the major league level right now. If the hitting ever gets this healthy I think they have a hard decision to make between Tulo and Bird, because I don't see the both of them on this roster and can't foresee them sending Frazier down again with what he's been able to do thus far.
I think we've seen the last of Tulo. Between Torres, Didi, DJ, Andujar, and Urshela, I think we have 2b/SS/3b covered. No reason to waste a spot on Tulo. Maybe carry Bird if you think he can be a LH PH but not sure who in the lineup would ever need to be PH for. If we're going with a 3 man bench, I would go Frazier, Urshela, and Romine. Romine is a given and the other 2 allow for off days all across the field. If DJ is playing 3b regularly, Urshela can play 3b for a day and let DJ play 1b to give Voit a day off.
I think Urshela is a lock to stay on the 25 if he keeps playing well. He doesn't have any more options and no chance he clears waivers. Bird still has an option so I guess he's probably gonna end up in AAA. Maybin and Tulo will end up released or traded.
So Frazier gets sent down in favor of Urshela? It makes sense, because I don't see them keeping five outfielders, but I hate to see Frazier lose the momentum he's gained this year. But if he keeps raking then it just solidifies that this is Gardy's last year with the team.
It's definitely gonna be a crunch. I think I'd roll with a 4 man bench and keep Frazier. Plus if we've learned anything this year it's that a lot of the time injuries solve roster crunches for you. So we'll see. But a 4 man bench leaves us with a bullpen of: German Britton Ottavino Betances Kahnle Holder Chapman With Cessa being the odd man out. But then you have the issue of someone almost certainly claiming Cessa because I think he's out of options too. Really no easy decision if everyone comes back and stays healthy.
If Frazier keeps hipping, I could see Frazier in LF, Hicks in CF, Judge in RF, with Stanton at DH as our normal outfield. Gardner would be there as a PR and to give a day off. I really think carrying Frazier, Urshela, and Romine makes the most sense. Send Bird down bc he really adds nothing.
Yeah, I’m not really concerned about it. We are going to have at least 5 guys on the DL at all times this year.
What else is out there? I was a LoHud guy until they changed writers and then got into RAB. I guess I'll try Pinstripe Alley. Does Yankee Magazine have a blog?
I have been looking at Pinstripe Alley since they stopped at RAB. It’s solid. That was a pretty nice pick by the big fella at first on that double play.
I'm pretty much just using twitter, the athletic, and this thread to keep track of everything. Athletic has some solid articles. Well worth the sub.
I love CC so fucking much. He was done after 5 but after Voigt got laced up and in during top of 6 and they showed him in the dugout yelling to Boone, "Let me start the next inning."
Without the luxury of their red hot start last year, I feel good about them playing catch up the majority of the year. The Yankees are just better than they are.
Cessa has some value but I don't see anyone trading for Gardner. Plus he's a 10/5 guy and I don't see him waiving his no trade rights. He seems to like being in NY and content with not playing every day.
Yea Gardner isnt going anywhere. He's a team leader and will take a seat on the bench if asked. He can be a PR and defensive replacement.
Three against Baltimore, then three more against the Rays before a four game set in Baltimore. If they’re not leading the division handily by then I’ll be mildly disappointed.
Don't get me wrong, I'm looking forward to getting our stars back but there's a piece of me that's going to miss the Rail Riders.
Agreed. Couldn't care less about 1st place in May the last few years. This year is kinda cool. Happy for the kids like Urshela, Tauchman, etc.
