Sounds like he had a passion for it ...that was ruined by a bad experience /poor management.

    Work / life balance?

With a strong work ethic like you have and a great educational background, I'd hate to see you settle for $50k at 36 years old in another dead end job.

Go into the corporate world for a bit, earn a good salary and then decide what you really want to do

Nandor the Relentless, I give you an obscene amount of shit on here, and for good reason, but I’m going to give you some advice that I genuinely believe: Do what makes you happy.

If being the GM at a local putt putt place brings you joy, then by all means, do it. I worked my entire career to get a VP title at a Fortune50 company, and I fucking hated it. My commute sucked, the coworkers sucked, the work itself sucked, it all sucked. So I quit and started my own business and now I make the same money and work a fraction of the time. Do what makes you happy, and ignore what others think.

You're missing the point. Have a solid income while you figure things out.

The putt putt job is another dead end job. At least with account management, you have transferable skills to fallback on.

Really. Take a career assessment. What would your dream job look like?

If that's graphic design, do it.

Yea I moved out here working for a PE firm, hated life there at a quant desk, started working nights with minimal hospitality background but just outworked everyone and took on stupid tasks constantly that no one else wanted to make myself irreplaceable until I was running the place.

Social outlet and enjoyment of work is pretty critical man.

Just started a new job and had to do this. You can expense up to 1,500 and you have to have your laptop on day one. Ended up spending 2,500. Most went to my laptop, I'm an it project manager so I needed some solid hardware but I had to buy monitors, docking station, keyboard, mouse and a headset for my office at work. Pretty shitty.

Its a bad look for the company in my opinion. I'm out 1500 until I get my reimbursement check and personnaly out a grand. And no fucking way am I using that laptop for personal after the security and monitoring shit they put on it.

It is nice in a sense that after a year it will be mine if I left the company. They give you 500 a year after that to spend on whatever you want. Most save it for the three years and upgrade their laptop.

So are you fully WFH or did you have to buy all this shit for your home office?

I had all this set up already for WFH so it wasn't too bad, but I did go over the laptop cost by $600. I didn't buy a docking station for my house bc I'm too cheap to pay $180 for a device when I cna just plug in 3 cords. It's not hard.

I'm not a total fan of it. I also see this as my "work laptop". Do I really want to browsers reddit/porn/tmb/fantasy leagues/etc on the laptop I use for work?? Feels like this is your laptop, but not really.

Thats the part that gets me is this is all for my office at work. I already have a decent WFH setup but I'll only be doing a day or two max a week.

Now I'm looking to drop another 400 out of pocket on a 3 year extended warranty because I'll lose my shit if it breaks after the warranty that came with it ends.

I bought a dell XPS and I wanted all USB c connector's to have the thin profile. After adding up 3 USB c to hdmi I was at 150. so I said fuck it and got the dell dock that also chargs so I can have a dedicated charger at work and home. The charging part sold me on the dock to be honest.

Whoever opens the first putt-putt course in Hollywood/Weho area that serves food and alcohol is going to make a killing. There was a pop-up out here that crushed it, I can't find a damn lease that fits the concept unfortunately.

I have no idea how you can make the economics work in an urban area. The amount of wasted space is absurd for what is traditionally a low cost activity.

One of my partners has a location (not in California) that basically covers it's entire rent with the revenue from two arcade games.

I could see how a pop up could theoretically work, but you would need to move it to different cities every couple months to justify the infrastructure. It is 100% nothing more than a interesting new thing to do that should see demand decline quickly after launch. Personally, I don’t know how top golf locations are anything more than a fad. If I could short individual top golf locations 18 months after opening, I would certainly do so.

Sure, it can work in Lynchburg where land is cheap, but batting cages and other items are also a meaningful waste of space.

Sounds like your friend should just own an arcade.

I mean the F&B revenue is nice as well - but always fantastic when a secondary source of income allows you to no longer worry about rent for a hospitality venture.

What about a bar and restaurant concept where you swap the floor with the new fad each quarter or so. Take a few days and flip the space to whatever becomes hip.
You capitalize on trend, keep your money makers in place (food/booze) and create more repeat customers because it’s a whole new thing.

The activity equipment doesn’t need to be top-notch. Just serviceable in the short run.

It would work - nightclubs like Warwick & Wall (miami) do quarterly remodels.

I haven't seen anyone apply it to the putt-putt/arcade space but it could be interesting.

I would pay decent money for a Survior competition night out. Space restrictions limit the ocean based challenges (and really, swimming with booze is a liability). Groups of say 8 people and you go through a series of challenges and votes through the night. You could fit a few obstacle courses and things like that into a tight space. Crank the heat up and blast some humidifiers.

    Maybe this exists. Idk.

Just put in a new video game unless the mini golf, laser tag, and go karts, bumper cars/boats, batting cages, etc. aren't worth the cost anymore.

I'm actually passing on it. I connected with a Putt-Putt GM on LinkedIn and asked him some questions and he indicated that it's pretty much standard that Putt-Putt GMs work a shit load of hours year round and I'm not about to get back into that kind of job when that was one of the main reasons why I left my last job. That live-to-work life sucks after a while.

I’m ready to move on from my current employer for a number of reasons, but I’m not exactly on the outs with them or anything. I’ve been looking around for the right place to move on to pretty slowly and particularly. I lined up two interviews with places I want to be. One was scheduled for tomorrow afternoon for the final round with the hiring manager onsite. Got an email Friday after 3 that they decided to promote internally and were cancelling the meeting.

I had recently been reached out to by a recruiter for three different jobs to set up an interview only to never hear back from them after I replied to the email. Even called and nothing.

Most recruiting firms have a coding for the candidates in their system. If you are coded as a possible fit to a position, then you’ll get the mass email they send out to everyone coded the same.

Unless you corresponded with them outside the initial email, it’s likely they saw your reply, looked at your background, and decided you weren’t a fit for the position.

Good recruiters will follow up to let you know you’re not a match after the resume screening, but, unfortunately, not all of us take the time.

What are you looking for? From what I can decipher- you want to not work a lot of hours and make an OK salary that lines up with a reasonable work/life balance?

I might suggest you find a way to make one of your hobbies a career. There are plenty of corporate graphic design jobs out there or you can start your own LLC.

I'm sure I've posted this at some point prior - but my first job out here was a 7:30am-4:30pm 5 day a week office job (M-F), then in addition to that I started working at a restaurant and nightclub 5 days a week from 5:30pm-3:30am (W-S).

Man I was living it up then.

lol at working at Liberty University. Fuck that.

And two of the other four aren't really an option given where they are located. Either I'd have to move away, and I need to be here for my parents who are having health issues, or be on the road for about an hour or more one-way. That just puts me back into basically working 50-60 hours a week.

Other two I had already applied for and was rejected, which isn't the least bit surprising for the Sweet Briar job since I'm not remotely qualified for it.
