I'd love to keep Schwarber, as I've loved the guy since Indiana, but he's only a slightly above replacement level player despite the power and great second half. Hell, Bote is worth more wins than Schwarber, and he's seemingly swung through every fastball he's seen since July started.
Would suck losing Schwarber. He's a fan favorite, but I could see scenarios where it'd make sense to move on.
For me its not about moving on, its about improving the team. I'm ready to move on from Russell. I don't want to trade Schwarber unless it makes sense and improves the team.
Apart from Addy, just seems like we're facing a lot of decisions that are 50/50 props. If the bottom line is that we're producing less than the sum of our parts, then....
Look at the market. The best OBP guys aren't likely going to be easily had. I agree we need to bring in more grinder types who will not be as free swinging. I just don't know if Kyle will bring that in return. Its why I said if we can get a good pen arm I would strongly consider it. I just don't know if we can even get that return for Kyle.
He's a 1.5-2 war player. Sure he's hot a fuck since the deal but that's who he's proven to be. I don't want to see us give this guy a huge deal based on the small but impressive sample he's given. If we could bring him back at a good number I wouldn't be mad. But I could see this front office overpay for him and rather invest funds to larger needs.
Wilson is 4th in wRC+ and Victor is 12th. We have a two good catchers on this roster. Wilson would return a huge package (where kyle wouldn't) and its why I would be on board with making a move to really shake the roster up if that is the goal at the end of the day.
Man, moving Willson to keep Victor would enrage my father. He just fucking Caratini for some reason despite me explaining that his numbers are pretty good.
Trading Willson Contreras is the dumbest thing I’ve heard in awhile. Not only is he arguably the best catcher in the game but he’s also fucking awesome. /analysis
Reminds me of the Blackhawks last year who lost every game they needed to win down the stretch last year and missed the playoffs
We lost Rizzo like 3 games ago. I don't want to hear this shit about injuries. We've been extremely lucky and other teams have been able to overcome it.
We haven't been extremely lucky in the slightest. We lost Contreras for a month right before Baez goes down and that is immediately followed by Rizzo going down. That's 3 of our top 5 hitters out for an extended period in the last 50 days. Also our closer we thought we'd get back this year has never returned and then the guy we signed to replace him has been out for nearly three weeks too.
Brandon Morrow has spent half his life on the DL , that's on Theo for counting on him. Yankees, Dodgers, Astros. All teams that have lost multiple starters (actually more time than the Cubs) and haven't missed a beat. This Cubs team wasn't that good when healthy , it's not the injuries.
Not to mention Bryant has been battling a knee issue, Cole Hamels hasn't been the same since his time on the IR, Kimbrel has 2 IR trips. Kintzler and Strop have also spent signficant time on the IR.
Injuries happen. There’s no excuse for being 3 games behind the Cardinals with 10 games left to play. Luckily we finish with 7 of 10 against the Cards so they can make it up although I doubt they do.
Baez has been playing hurt all year and trying to tough it out. At the end of the day none of this shit matters. Take this series at home and we have everything to play for in STL.
Turned on the TV at 1-1. We go down 4-1. Turn it off. Get a text that it’s tied. Turn it on to see Carpenter homer. Immediately turn it off.
Thank god! He probably shouldn't have been there this year. Dude's been doing a shit job of handling the pitching staff since he got here.
Lol at blaming Joe for the trash ass team. Maybe we should fire another hitting coach. That should do it.
