It's not the air, you're landing them - on TV, to the public, and most importantly directly on republicans who vote no on record. They can't come back in 10 years and say I was against Trump - no fucker here you are voting to not hold him accountable. He won't be removed from office, but you have to fight the fight. You have to have the hearings, you have to have the votes on record. There is a % of the population that would literally stay with Trump as he had them drink the koolaide in Jonestown. I don't know what that number is, but its unfortunately pretty high, impeachment won't change their mind at all, either way. There is also a pretty big % that may vote for him in 2020 but once he's out of office they'll distance themselves from him, and maybe impeachment will be enough to just keep them home. Again, none of that matters though - you impeach because it's the right thing to do, even if you know you'll lose.
Impeachment is absolutely “there” with a very high chance of success. Removal is extraordinarily unlikely to happen. And that’s the point. You can’t say you’re the party of “the rule of law” and do nothing when the opposition party repeatedly flouts the law, erodes democracy, and undermines the public trust. If (highly likely) the Republicans in the Senate decline to remove Trump, then that is the most powerful campaign tool the Democrats could ever hope for. Every cent of their ad buys would be spent telling the American public that the Republican Party is a criminal gang that abhors the American public. The Democratic Party must stop making decisions based on how they think the Republican Party will react. The Republicans party does what it does with no regard for how it will be perceived by the majority of America, let alone the Democratic Party. It is currently a threat to the continued existence of the nation as a democratic state. The public needs to be shown this.

Arguing against impeachment is so fucking stupid. It's not supposed to be a choice. If someone commits impeachable offenses, then it's Congress's job to act. No matter what the ultimate consequences are. Otherwise, you're saying it isn't ever going to be used if opposing parties control each chamber. It's an absolutely moronic argument.

We need these proceedings to bring all those sorts of things to light. Read up on the litany of things ProPublica and CREW have been able to investigate dig up without subpoena power. A no-holds-barred congressional investigation would uncover an endless parade of influence peddling, money laundering, and fraud that cannot be spun as anything but. Only the most hardcore of the Trump base would be galvanized by those sorts of things and they cannot win him an election alone.

At this point, Dems should be fighting tooth and nail with every tool they have available to them. Hold people in contempt, find obscure laws that you can use to benefit you, publicly sing from the rooftops about all the shit that's going on.
