This is the same one I’m supposed to be getting. It has the gold trigger, which is apparently some sort of limited feature or whatever. Yeah he showed me a scope when I was in his shop today and it seems solid. Also it’s a shorter scope so it’s a better fit for the .30-30 lever.
I believe the 30-30 I have was produced by Marlin but under a different name for Montgomery Ward. Nice rifle.
I think the underlying story is that it was something that was your grandfather's and now it's gone forever. I would think he would know what customer got the bow and would try to fix it
It was my father’s, but yeah, he spent a week or so digging around and calling people, but to no avail. He had me to send him pics of the bow, which I did, and for any minor details that will help IDing it. He gave that info to someone he knows who frequents archery shops, shows, etc and if they find it, he’s getting it and giving it back to me. He absolutely made a mistake and has apologized to me continuously, but the true asshole in this is the customer who claimed the bow to be theirs. If they didn’t realize that it was their bow at the time, they certainly have to know now that it‘s not and haven’t tried making it right. As I’ve said, I’m very disappointed, but being pissed off and irate isn’t going to accomplish anything.
How strict is everyone here about waiting till 30 min before sunrise? I bumped a doe on the way to my stand at 6 this morning. Didn’t shoot but sure was tempted.
Just fucking misfired on a doe. Using my dad's cap muzzle instead of my new primer one because it needs to be sighted in first. Damn.
Just clean missed a little doe. Didn’t account for the limb extension on this crossbow, knocked the tree wide left, clean miss.
She lingered, I reloaded and snuck up the hill after her. Saw what I think was a nice 8 point bounding away. Pretty pumped for tomorrow.
Yeah I had 2 out there. One stayed on the other side of the levee/trees so I never got a great shot. The other was closer and broadside, but still maybe a bit too long of a shot. They turned and looked when the cap went off and then slowly moved on, knowing they were in no danger from my dumbass. Still, saw about 4 or 5 yesterday morning and 2 this morning, feel good about having another, probably better shot soon. Think this weekend is supposed to be high activity with the new moon.
Guy in our camp during muzzle season last weekend shot at a deer. Doesn't reload and leaves gun in stand while he climbs down to track deer. While tracking deer looks up and sees a momma bear and 3 cubs. Momma is pissed at him and gets very aggressive as he tries to exit their space and she takes off after him. He is running through the woods while bear gains on him and ends up climbing up a tree. Momma bear stays under him pissed off. She calms down after about an hour and then finally leave him after about another 30 mins. He said he won't ever hunt again without carrying a sidearm.
Where at? Never seen any this far south, but there is supposed to be an untouched ancient population of then around the White River, I was surprised by that since the northern part of the state had to be repopulated.
SE Arkansas River bottoms (p close to White River). Don't see them a lot but have been seeing them there my whole life
Tiffin blind dog our leases are in zone 12, down around Hamburg. We've known of bears on our stuff for about 10 years, with a clear population growth. While the other zones have bear seasons, 12 still doesn't and they are becoming an issue
Damn. Yeah I've never seen any around our place, also zone 12. But we don't really have deep deep woods near our 40. Probably could find some in the Saline river bottoms a couple miles away though.
we're surrounded by miles and miles of pine plantations and river bottoms. One of the creeks is named Bear Haus creek
Let the fever take hold this morning and took a stupid shot. Came out of the same spot in the treeline today, and headed right towards me. Should have waited for them to get closer but was afraid they were headed back into the woods. Couldn't get myself to chill. Took my gun, so it shot today at least. IMPROVEMENT. Fuck.
Doe season opens tomorrow for us in Zone B. Don’t know if I’m going to get a hunt in this weekend. Probably won’t get back out until next week/weekend.
What a roller coaster day. 8:30 I took a 45yd shot that I gauged incorrectly at 25. I’m a rookie. Just nicked a little doe under her chest. She bled a bit though so we tracked her about 3/4 of a mile until the bleeding stopped. We were convinced that we couldn’t track her and that she survived. I was bummed all day about hurting a deer and not killing it. Decided to head out to a new spot early. Walked about a mile into the forest on an abandoned road, found a little grove I scouted a few days back. I see lots of fresh tracks and several scrapes. So I set my climber on the only tree available, it’s dead and another dead tree is leaning on it above my head. I sit for 3 hours contemplating dying to a fucking tree fall. Sunset is 6:08, at 6:02 I see what I think is a doe behind some brush at 60 yards (guessing, I suck at yardage). This fella turns and I see a rack. I have to physically fight the urge to lob a Hail Mary arrow immediately. He walks perpendicular towards the abandoned road. Stops at 50yds. Again I tell myself don’t be dumb. He turns and walks in my direction. At 40 I have him sighted in and tell myself “breath Bobandi, and take that fucking finger off the trigger he’s gonna come closer.” He walks to 15yds which is nearly straight down from my stand. I shoot him. He staggers, runs 60yds and dies within 45 seconds. I’m shaking, climbing out of this death trap tree. No blood trail at all. Arrow lodged in him, popped his liver. Got a giant bodied 6 point buck for my first deer. Fucking pumped.
Hell yeah! That’s really awesome. Post a pic when you can. And go on EBay/craigslist/facebook marketplace/anywhere and get a used rangefinder. Will be a lifesaver if you’re planning to bow hunt a lot.
Can’t post a pic on here not tech savvy. If one of you boys wants to pm me a number or email I can send a pic or 2.

Wife and I sat my stand that I missed a buck on Wednesday right at dark. Never saw the full deer or blood after the shot. Today, she saw him right at 6pm sneaking in for a snack. Took him 35 minutes to come into the opening for a shot. Her first deer.
