And why is swarbrick letting this happen? Unless the pay cut for the oc position is attractive to him. Surely Rees is not making over a million a year.
There are some past quotes from coaches and players that validate it. But it also feels very much like something our beat writers shouldn’t be celebrating that they knew about it and weren’t willing to report it until now.
The last line is spot on. It seems like there was a grand trade for increased practice access if you toe the line.
True and for as much as they criticized harbaugh for controlling the information around Michigan them just vomiting what kelly wants them to say is the exact same thing, controlling the information.
He also snuck in there how Kelly “had a hand” in the play calling the last month of the season when the offense was suddenly better These guys can’t suck Kelly off any harder
They do this every time. Hell, Sampson took any opportunity he could find to talk about how happy ND was with their coordinators until literally yesterday. "We told you BVG was awful" Eh, not until after he left, and you also said the 2016 defense had MAC level talent and spent all of September 2016 saying how there is no point in firing him during the season (except for Prister, who said it after the texas game and retracted it two days later... hmm) "We told you it was just a matter of time before Book overtook Wimbush" No, you were afraid to say shit even when we all saw videos of him missing a net from 20 feet away. "We told you how bad the skill position talent was" No, you told us how valuable Jafar Armstrong and Michael Young were and completely glossed over the obviously significant loss of Dexter Williams. And who knows how many more I've forgotten about. Just wait till BK leaves and they casually reference his inability to develop quarterbacks as if it wasn't spent something they spent a decade denying.
They never said shit about book overtaking wimbush, some of them scuffed at the idea and basically laughed at fans making a big deal of wimbush missing the net. Also remember a week ago when chip long wanted to coach Tyler Buchner so much that he was definitely not going anywhere....I think O’Malley missed a few emails. Seriously if you don’t like coachd I get it but you should listen to his new podcast. The guy was probably processed because he was too critical and now he is not pulling any punches. The way they are handling jurkovec is ridiculous.
Coach D does better football analysis than any of the other writers. He just happens to write at a 3rd grade level. Lou S is the best at anything contextually, historic, or big picture program related. The rest, meh.
I prefer podcasts over articles and Lou s is so haard to lisssten to aaandd some-timess I just can’t keep lissening to him when he speakss about norte dame football you know back in the dayss you take that deep shot. And all of a sUdden you know they start reeeaaalllly thinking about it and that safety staarts to creep up jussssttt a little.
Yeah I heard this was more a Long vs Quinn thing than BK vs Long. Not sure if it's true or not but supposedly Long said it's either him or me and BK chose Quinn. That could be because he knew Long was looking at Memphis and other opportunities or he just chose his friend. Either way I hope it works out. Like you guys said, if we keep the next two classes together I'm all good. At least until next year when Rees is sitting in the booth doing nothing and BK is calling plays
I mean they've spoken to him being an asshole before, but not that it was pervasive enough to fire him.
Wasn't Quinn the coach when Dex went ham? Maybe things are different when your RBs run faster than 4.6?
Yes and it was his first year, but dex did not go ham. He was incredible at getting a huge run but Nd was not good running the ball in 2018 and it showed against any good team. I was willing to give him a pass at that point but after this year I am not. The ol regressed.
And it’s not just about quinn being absolutely awful at his job, it’s more about kelly not even making the effort to go out and get the best offensive line coach available. He did not even try. Just like he just did with Rees.
Maybe Kelly will replace Quinn but he just doesn't want to take shit from his subordinate like throwing out ultimatums. Or something...
This is Hiestands second year with the Bears. Who was OL coach last year? Dex ran for almost a thousand yards in 8 games. I forget how jaded come of you are.
IHHH is right - we were boom or bust, but against the big boys we couldn't hit the boom plays, so ultimately the run game was ineffective. Any run scheme at ND should be able to rack up statistics on inferior opponents.
There were a lot of long runs and nothing runs with McGlinchey and Nelson. This isn't a talented running back roster. Should they pile up yards against shitty teams? Absolutely. They should be able to gain 4 yards running up the middle against BC, no argument there. My point is what it always has been. Too many of you are expecting great things from average personnel. They didn't lose to Georgia, Clemson and Michigan because they were out schemed, they lost because they simply aren't as good as those teams. I remember when people were ready to run Hiestand out. Maybe that's just the nature of fans who think average teams are elite. Book beat every average defense he faced and lost to every good defense he faced because he is average. The run game was mediocre because the backs are mediocre. Clemson wins because their personnel is great. ND isn't close to that.
I disagree strongly. When did Clemson had better talent than Nd at ol? And why is Clemson.....fucking Clemson overtaking Nd in recruiting?
Pryor is graduating on the 15th and will be moved in in South Bend on the 16th. It looks like he could practice with the team, too.
Assuming what I am reading is true. Pretty nuts that we aren’t going to lose anyone when long was a big recruiter. Almost seems like it has to be Rees and there isn’t uncertainty about who will be coaching them
Maybe they knew something, I just want a new ol coach for Christmas Edit that gif was too annoying, fire him into the sun was the idea. Even reesus won’t be able to run on water (away from sbpd) if that ol is that bad.
Quinn has had a good career coaching OL. I dont understand the vitriol for him. Has our OL been the best in college. No, but it hasn't been awful. I'm not saying he's been great but the guy has recruited well and we replaced 2 first rounders when he came in
This guy tj34 used to have a ton of information with the likes of Pete as Prister constantly saying he was in a position to know good shit. about long. Spoiler: ... It was well, well beyond "mean to players." It crossed lines of what is appropriate, acceptable and worthy of being in that position, with that charge mentoring young men, and at a place like ND. It is something he knows needs to be addressed and managed -- and accepted as a real problem. I'm all for tough guys and despise PC culture and namby-pamby stuff that seems to pervade some/much of our culture and society today, but there is a hard line and point of no return. It was breached. Repeatedly. To players, families/parents, other staffers and the like. It drove the issue. I wish Chip Long well. Personally and then professionally, and only thereafter as an OC and aspiring future HC.
He's had virtually no offensive line experience that wasn't under Brian Kelly, for starters I get that your default is to defend coaches, but you don't have to be an "expert" to see the regression in our offensive line. We're not exactly lining up with talentless offensive linemen.
what bothers me most is the regression not only of the line as a whole but specific players like mustipher, hainsey and kraemer. A college player should not ever get worse, unless its dramatic injuries
Chip Long will not be retained: ND Fans: My God this program is dead. Kelly is worthless. Bring in the guy who generally wins 8 or 9 games a year because ND can only win 10. Class stays intact: ND fans: Oh well, the players hated him. OK, he better beat Clemson next year. You guys are a children's roller coaster of emotions.
