Literally the perfect example of Americans not understanding thinking man’s golf, especially considering we got destroyed on this hole in multiple matches
Supposed to get up to 60 here tomorrow. Glad I shouldn’t be missing much in four balls while I take the afternoon off to play
Tiger seems like the only American who is playing this course the way it is meant to be, it helps that he’s the best iron player of all time, but man the enthusiasm gap and it not being a soft American course definitely feels like it is showing up.
The closest to these conditions played on a big stage was lead by many of these Americans. It's not that they can't play a course like this, it's that they all played a cash grab in the Bahamas 72 hours before the event started.
Fair point, but the popular rebuttal is that the tightened fairways and grown up rough at Shinnecock actually took the thinking out of the game, unlike here at RM.
...and at this point I think we should be able to claim Rory as American for the President's cup. I mean this is a PGA event and the Prince of Ponte Vedra practically has an equity stake in American golf.
Yes I’m currently watching. What does Tiger have to do with guys not being able to chip or putt for shit?
I thought I remember Shinnecock being pretty wide? Maybe I'm just thinking since it was dry that there wasn't nappy rough to deal with that it was wider than it was.
Wider than the average Open but they still grew in a ton of rough compared to average member play. Took a lot of the angles out of it.
Anytime the US gets destroyed in the ryder cup, people want to say that about the captain. Why can't the same be said here?
There’s a difference between guys playing like shit like in Paris or here vs Tom Watson not listening to the players whatsoever and keeping the pairings a secret
And that's why Augusta has fallen down in course rankings. If the USGA and ANGC stopped worrying about par we'd get more interesting golf.
So Ernie is a genius because the other side is playing like garbage? No, the players determine the captain's legacy.
I'm not saying that. He said Watson gets a bad rap because he didnt listen to his players and got destroyed. Ernie is doing the same with opposite results. I do agree with your 2nd sentence. That's why I said "Tiger is the worst captain ever." Because his players are making that happen
Tiger Woods, greatest captain ever? (based on the last twenty minutes and since shithead reed got off the course)
I think Tiger is the best playing captain ever. Seriously, he’s playing out of his mind. If he can string together a few more years...
Americans had no angle to use the backstop really, but the point stands. I really would’ve loved someone asking Xander wtf was the thinking at #1 bringing out driver. Everyone else hit iron. Cantlay had no play. Did he think he could reach the green side bunker, make the swale before the green, push it thirty yards to the middle of the fairway? Where did he want that ball to go?
That’s the point. Every American played to the middle of the fairway off the tee and gave themselves no angle to use the backstop. Every International flirted with that left edge of the fairway and trap off the tee in order to get the angle. It was thinking a step ahead and playing the hole from the green backwards, which most American courses/setups don’t make you do.
Are we doing the Fantasy golf again this year? I enjoyed it a lot last year, definitely watched more golf because of it.
I'd think we could do something similar to what we did last season. I'm still disappointed Yahoo did away with theirs a few years ago, I really liked that format
I was thinking about this recently too because our first tourney is always the Tournament of Champions and that's right after New Year's. Jigga you still have our league from last year active?
It is too bad that we have some amazing courses that will never sniff a PGA event due to location/logistics. Hell it would make for great tv to do a Ryder/Presidents Cup 'training' weekend at Bandon or Sandhills or any of a number of courses.
It's pretty simple. We just did a snake draft, everyone got 5 players and you counted the earnings for the year from your top 4. Total earnings at the end of the season wins, adjusted for the FedEx Cup bonus in the Tour Championship
interesting. i’m down to join if possible our setup is a weekly pick. one player per week, can only pick that player once in the season unless that player wins that tournament, then you can pick them again (up to 3 times). keep a tally of earnings
nope my buddy is a saint and runs it off excel. set up an email account that we send our picks into and he manually tracks it
