We got absolutely massacred today. I guess the rose bowl traffic is starting to roll into town. No idea the accuracy of this but one of the committee guys said they expect 125k people are coming into town for the game.
Sent the recs from here to my wife and she’s obsessed with broken Spanish now. Unfortunately it’s closed Jan 1. Guess we will be making another trip to LA.
saw this guide to LA on the Washington Post https://www.washingtonpost.com/travel/united-states/los-angeles-local-guide/
if you are looking in that range of resturants check out Bavel, Nightshade, Otium or Orsa & Winston. Also Shibumi is a little more expensive but a cool experience (I didn't love the food by my girl did) Baco Mercat, Bar Ama and Hock & Hoof are all good as a little cheaper options If you are willing to uber or can jump on the metro, David Chang has a place just outside Chinatown called Majordomo.
I despised Kismet when I went, that was the most let down I've been be a restaurant in a long time. Thought it was very bland, terrible value, and the space was a minimalism mis-step. Would want to give it a second chance because I keep hearing raves, but there's just too many damn good restaurants in LA to give a place you didn't like that much another shot.
Majordomo is the best meal I have had in LA. Reservations were impossible when I went, but if you get there when they open you can get a seat.
This will be the first time I will be working in Pasadena on New Year's day. Can't wait to circumnavigate the cluster fuck.
Going to see Jason Isbell tonight at Disney Concert Hall. We’ve got reservations at Abernathy’s. Anybody been or know of another bar to get a good beer at?
Mendocino is dope. Shasta is dope. Tahoe is amazing year round. The lake in the summer and Heavenly in the winter. Yosemite is a global destination and rightfully so. Driving Tioga Pass through Yosemite to Mammoth is incredible and on par if not better than driving the PCH. Mammoth itself is one of the coolest places I’ve ever been with all the lakes and volcanoes. The High Sierras in general are amazing and don’t get enough credit. Joshua Tree is like a different planet. I’ve lived here my entire life and I’m nowhere close to running out of new places to visit.
angel city and arts district brewing co’s are both about a 20 minute walk for you golden gopher is a fun casual dive bar. Broken shaker is a rooftop right across the street if you want to get there early and see a cool sunset
I think he said he was looking for good beer go get cocktails at Otium or if you're ambitious come down by me and hit up Mikkeller or go to Highland Park in Chinatown
Neighbor or Gjelina would be the first places I’d check out. My wife went to butchers daughter for brunch but it’s vegetarian I think.
Going to Delanceys and then the Cinerama Dome to see 1917. Unless there's somewhere else right near there I should be going instead of Delanceys.
waterfront was really fun when I went a few months ago, but I just went for drinks. It’s taken the lead as the bro-y bar in SM/Venice from the Bungalow so hope the crowd is alright for you. Let us know how the food is
They remodeled Melisse and it's ridiculous. Take the corporate card but it has to be the best French dining in LA right now. Dave's relatively new place Pasjoli is really solid as well. Had a client staying on the westside so actually had to venture out there for a few days for the first time in a while.
Dude, I cheated on you. My friends insisted we meet at Stout since Delancey was closed. 3rd Base was packed af though, nice to see.
Eathan Edwards Will 3rd Base be super crazy for the Super Bowl this weekend (e.g. lines out the door, can't get a table, etc. or a little bit more chill? Me and ~3-5 friends are looking for somewhere we can go that would have a good atmosphere but won't be too insane
We'll be crazy - but we're taking over the whole complex and parking lot so you'll definitely be able to get in.
Nice - looks like I convinced my gf to go, so at least the two of us will check it out, but going to try to get a few more friends over as well.
I would say yes to it being worth the price - it's really solid, especially since they remodeled. I can't say I'm a huge fan of the salmon pizza but it's definitely an iconic LA dish that you have to try if you haven't. If you go for dinner you have to ask for it because it's not on the menu.
I swear I've seen like 5-6 different tweets or notifications for the curfew tonight based on various cities doing different times for the curfews. What a clusterfuck.
Working from home but half my workplace is at work - received email today that everybody has to leave work at 4 bc of protests in area at 5. Scary times
Fox 11 just had some live attempt of looters at a good store and locals were telling them to leave. Owners have shot guns. Police just rolled up in force. Quite a scene
Knocking on some serious wood right now, but sounds like the protest two blocks from my apartment is mostly peaceful and thinning out with little/no property damage. It was beyond surreal walking around my neighborhood today and seeing every restaurant and store boarding up and putting up signs with protesters not to break in. My apartment building has been in "lockdown" since 3 PM where they haven't been allowing any cars in or out and only keep one door open where they have a security person standing by checking everyone coming in.
And then the cops rolled up and handcuffed the black people that were helping the store owners protect the store
Dipshits in Riverside are lighting off fireworks and throwing screwdrivers and other things at the sheriffs. Swat is rolling thru. Apparently the chief took a knee with the protesters and it was peaceful.
