Solo was a prime example of movie by execs. I can imagine the initial production meetings went something like: Execs: “everyone thinks Han Solo is cool so let’s make a movie about him. What should it be about?” “we need to show how he meets Chewie” “we need to show how he meets Lando” “we need to see how he gets the Falcon” “we need to see how he gets his name” “we need to see how he gets his blaster” “we need to show the Kessel Run” “Throw in a surprise cameo” “We’re also contractually obligated to show at least one light saber because it’s Star Wars” “OK great, now try to write a cohesive story that links all those moments and try to tie it into the overall Star Wars story”

That said, if they were to do another one now that all those fan service moments have been covered, I think you could come up with a pretty great Star Wars movie. I enjoyed who they cast and that period in the time line is ripe for exploration
Solo was a movie because Lawrence Kasdan wanted to get his son a gig writing a Star War. It was a condition of his coming back to write TFA. Get ready, cause he's also writing Indiana Jones and the Sequel of Doom.

Very possible. She has as much experiencing directing as Jon Kasdan does writing. Which is to say, not much. Although I thought she did a good job with her episode. It was the best of the three middle ones, imo.
I obviously take it all with a grain of salt but lot of the substance actually makes sense and it would not surprise me to have internal leaks trying to defend JJ/Bad Robot after that shitstorm of a movie
With how messy the movie was, don’t think anything would surprise me why I find it fascinating and like I said I can’t wait for a tell-all about the entire trilogy’s development

Ultimately I just want Star Wars to be fun, and it can’t really be ruined because I have such fond memories of seeing the movies and playing with the toys growing up. As much shit as I give TLJ on here, I watched it last night while playing SWTOR I never see failure with Star Wars just missed opportunities
