Anyone go through MSY today? Had to pick someone up last night on one of the first arriving flights. Place looks really nice. Shuttle seems like it could be an issue, but I I typically Uber. Obviously traffic will suck for a while.

While I've had good times there. I'd like to find somewhere more neutral.

Heading there Thursday night, GF’s first time in the city. She’s from Colombia, so we’re doing Maes Arepas on Friday before heading out.

Want to do a nice, authentic NOLA experience on Thurs night. What’s my best bet among:

    -Upperline

    -La petit grocery

    -Commander's Palace

    -other suggestions welcome

would like to not spend an arm and a leg, but know that’ll be tough.

    muchos gracias

I'd do Commanders for a first-timer. Another random suggestion is to look at Cafe Degas (Mid City) - it will be nice and decorated and won't cost you as much.

Headed to New Orleans for the national championship with the wife. Was there a few years ago when I ate at Cochon Butcher, Mr. B's Bistro, Herbsaint, and Mothers. Are these still good choices or are their new places to try?

    Poor checking in.
Anyone done the recliners at any of the casinos to watch a bowl game? $225 is what I was told the cost was.
Plan is to be in N.O. Monday and hope to get tickets closer to $500 game day. $1,500 is too much.

I can't imagine tickets will be near $500. They were crazy high for Clemson/Alabama last year in Tampa.

Is Superior Seafood in the garden district any good? Heading to town for a bachelor party this weekend and we're looking for a place for dinner for tomorrow night. It's a bigger group, and this place said they'd accommodate and basically just charge us per head for food/open bar. We're pretty set on the rest of the itinerary, just curious if anyone has been there.

    It’s average imo.

I will say it’s good for big parties, but the food is kinda meh.

How many people are in your group?

That's what I figured. We've got 18 total. Staying in an AirBnb in the garden district too, so the walk-ability was a perk.

It's good but not great by NOLA standards. If you go, it'll serve you well and everyone in your party will be happy because of the big menu. I lived around the corner from it and ate there a ton. Even had a little get together there after I proposed to the BFF.

If you're looking for a good place with average food for a big group, it'll suffice. But if you're looking for top notch food, I'd go elsewhere.

Didn’t realize there was a thread...

Heading down for the long weekend tomorrow night(wife is at a conference) and staying at the Roosevelt. Eating at Cochon on Friday and Tujague’s Saturday and mostly have eating plans set but any particularly good bar recommendations? Have heard cooter browns is fun but kinda far from downtown. Also Finn McCools for the Chelsea game.

Finns is amazing for soccer. Definitely go there. Just an all around cool bar too.

Are y’all looking for just sports bars? Cooters is ok, but I wouldn’t venture to New Orleans to just go there.

Depending on what kind of ambiance/drinks you want, you have a huge catalog of choices. Some of my favorites:

    Barrel Proof
    Bouligny Tavern
    Tchoup Yard

Damn 18? Yeah Superior might be good because it can accommodate bigger crowds like that.

GW Fins is good to for big groups too.

So what's the consensus on Gianna? I went right after it opened, didn't really like it all - but it's always pretty packed on the weekends, has some buzz and good reviews. Worth giving it another shot? Anything specific to try?

    Looking for a suggestion.

We're going to NO the weekend of the 25th with my buddy and his wife for her 50th birthday (:old:). He would like to prearrange a special surprise dinner for her and we're looking for suggestions for a place that will go above and beyond for her. Not talking about "put on a silly hat and sing a silly song" type shit but something that will make her birthday extra special. Maybe even a bar/club for after dinner to continue the evening. He wants to call ahead and plan it out ahead of time.

Manning’s would be best for a large group. That’s downtown.

If you want to watch the big game somewhere other than downtown I’d recommend Bayou Beer Garden, and also Wrong Iron in Mid-City,

For Uptown/Garden District i would say Bulldog, Tchoup Yard, Tracy’s.

Decided to have my bachelor party here first weekend of March Madness. Have only been once before and didn't leave Bourbon Street, so I'm looking for a wider experience this time. Looking for two things:

    - Large group friendly/outdoor bars off Bourbon Street
    - Best places to watch the tournament (don't care whether on or off Bourbon Street)

Yes, but only because we ended up eating there on a whim. It's exactly what you'd expect a borrowed jacket to feel like. I'd just pack a light one.

I went to one during March Madness a few years ago. The Rusty Nail is pretty solid for a group during day games and you can get Cochon Butcher delivered there. Manning's is more of a sports bar that works for night games.

Was just looking at this list: http://nola.eater.com/maps/best-sports-bar-new-orleans

Both look great. Bummer that there's no legal sports gambling at Harrah's - Obviously everyone who wants to do it has a way, but it's different than getting the ticket.

If you/anyone in the group likes live music, cannot recommend Maple Leaf Bar in Uptown enough. Went a couple weeks ago and saw the New Orleans Suspects...they didn't go on until like 1 AM. Great spot.

Cooter Brown’s is a great sports bar for the tourney. Not much in the way of outside seating, though. You’d get there from the quarter by hopping on the green streetcar line and going to the end of St. Charles at the intersection of S. Carrollton.

If you’re dying for outside seating but watching thre tourney there is only semi-important, go to Tchoup Yard, a short-ish Uber ride from the quarter, or Wrong Iron in Mid-City. Can’t vouch for either of their TV setups cuz they ain’t strictly sports bars, but they’re great outside spots.

Also The Rusty Nail (real close to the quarter) is p. good for outside patio seating in the back. Only a dece TV setup but it’s probably the easiest for you guys to get to from the quarter.

My vote for the tourney would be Cooter Brown’s though, unless outside space while watching is an absolute must for you.

Had Peche and Cochon last weekend, both were great as always.

I like Tracy's to watch games. The District is alright. Just depends where y'all want to go - there are tons of places around with good food, TVs, and alcohol.

I don't ride the street car much, it's been a couple of months, but I didn't see anything like that. I normally just carry around a few dollar bills and quarters if I know we're going to be taking it.
