That guy is a good actor but the way they wrote him he didn't have much to work with. He's basically a caricature of a villain.
One thing to notice in TLJ: whenever Hux is talking, observe the older FO officer who’s usually making some sort of mocking gesture (rolling eyes, etc.)
I think the thing that bothers me the most about the sequel trilogy getting roasted by everyone is how much more Ridley and Driver deserved for their performances. they were both so good. I hope they're at least remembered similarly to how McGregor is for the prequels.
I know I have made reference to this before, but what annoys me the most is that I have far more emotionally invested into cartoon characters like 5's and The crew members of the ghost than pretty much anyone in the most recent trilogy. When you have a budget of 100s of millions of dollars, you shouldn't be getting outdone by a damn cartoon.
Ridley for sure. Driver will struggle just because his character spent so long being an emo bitch. He will suffer from Natalie Portman syndrome. A fantastic actor who couldn't save bad writing for most of the trilogy.
disagree. He could have been a wannabe Tarkin with an unhinged totalitarian desire. He's a weasly little shit with a nuclear arsenal. Not every villain, not even ever major one, has to be physically imposing or personally intimidating. The "little shit heel" character hasn't really been done in Star Wars but the set-up for it was there.
Well he really didn't have a character at all in TFA. His two most memorable scenes are his big Hitler speech and the few shots of petty jealousy between he and Kylo. TLJ took that and showed us that the First Order don't respect the guy, think he's a pompous little shit, and only follow him because he's their boss and they're not Klingons. So you take that little shitstain joke of a character, give him power over a huge army and watch his insecure, pushed around, unhinged, psychotic ass go crazy.
That's the point though. Even if you throw out legends they're still building on previous movies rather than building their own universe. Marvel threw out the comics and have their own cinematic continuity but there is no predecessor Iron Man/Captain America movie with it's own rabid fan base they're trying to satisfy. They built all of that themselves.
I say this only half joking - with all the words you've written about what could have happened in RoS, you could have just written your own version of the screenplay. we'd all read it.
did they throw out the comics though? Seems they took storylines from the comics and made them their own. Ex. There is absolutely an infinity war series or whatever that while isn't a perfect match, it's still a relatively similar storyline.
I mean they used some of them as source material but it's a totally separate continuity. That's why Iron Man 3 can flawlessly execute a fake Mandarin storyline and everyone widely applauds how well done and good it is.
Those are the same people who hate TLJ for not having Luke be ass kicker supreme. Just giant neckbeards who will only accept their preferred property one way.
Iron Man 3 was just plain bad. And I've never read an Iron Man comic in my life. Just a dumb ass story.
It’s hilarious that Shane Black did a marvel movie RDJ calling up his buddy to do a 3rd movie with the most popular character in your universe that doesn’t give a shit about continuity or adhering to the comics some inventive action sequences though
Had you seen other marvel cinematic universe films before you saw Iron Man 3? Because the original point still works
True except there was no one around to redeem Hux and he certainly wasn't being tempted to be redeemed. Dude was basically a Hitler Youth who grew up to become Hitler.
Yes but at the time I wasn't a fan. Pretty much all of the Marvel films at that point had been mediocre outside of maybe the first IM but even then I didn't love it. Hell, I didn't even know who the Mandarin was really. Just thought the movie was bad.
Rewatch, my bud. I've seen all of them, although it has been like 7 years, so I probably can't remember what plot twist you're talking about.
Saw a Youtuber say that the Prequels would have been much better, or at least better-received (which is far from the same thing) if Episode I had been, essentially, Episode II, and Episode II had been a movie about the Clone Wars and how it deteriorated the Jedi's moral center, drove Anakin to disenchantment, and helped Palpatine manipulate the situation to greater power, setting the stage for Episode III when he goes for the double checkmate. It was not the worst argument in the world.
After years of pestering him to watch it, my brother is finally watching clone wars. At least once a week I get a text from him about Obi-Wan being a horn dog.
My buddy sent this to me and I fully expected to see it here https://screenrant.com/star-wars-movie-taika-waititi-develop-direct/
I appreciate the HollywoodReporter link more than the first. How can you turn a two or three sentence blurb that cuts right to the point into like 800 words of nonsense repeating the same shit over and over. The state of blogging is deplorable.
