Noah’s Mill is one of my most common pours.

For a higher proof, I don’t get the sting in the nose. I get most out of my bourbon via smell

 

I’m seeing Barrell Bourbon for $99 and Barrell Dovetail for $89. Either one worth getting at that price?

Couldn’t find the Belle Meade Madeira but I came away with this delicious high proofed beast. Perfect nose and even better taste

Dovetail Batch 1 was my introduction to high proof bourbons last year and the taste was amazing. I also had a bottle of Noah’s Mill open at the time that I was enjoying but the Dovetail blew it away. I now always keep a bottle or two of Dovetail around.

 

Barrell really does a hell of a job picking and blending barrels. Between the two store pick single barrels and Dovetails I had, I’ve never had a bad bottle.

 

I stan for Barrell.

What do you guys think of Whistlepig Boss Hog? I was drinking it last night and enjoyed it but the price of it is insane.

 

I will never know. Because of said price. I have a morbid fascination with Whistlepig products which are insanely priced, but even more so with the actual people dropping $500 on it on purpose. Bottles my mind.

 

The bar I was at last night had it out as their break even bottle. They should me a pour for $25.

I just legitimately don’t know how they stay in business because I never see any individuals buying their products.

 

I see it collecting dust on the shelves regularly.

A store here has it for $99. Still a little too rich for my blood right now, but not the $220 some fool paid.

 

It seems most stores in my area have everything 15% more expensive than what you guys are getting it for. Guess that’s just the market

 

If they have single barrell they likely have small batch also. Rather have that at $45.

 

Yeah they have small batch for 60. Also a little overpriced, but I bought it anyway a couple weeks back.

 

That’s almost double msrp. Should be $36.99.

 

Oh well. I don't regret it at that price point. Obviously would've preferred to spend 20 bucks less, but I can live with it. It's when you get up around the triple digits and stores are price gouging that I say no thanks.

Stagg Jr does a late spring release and then again in the fall

I've been using the breakingbourbon.com release calendar a bit, but it doesn't always have the normal releases of annual bottles.

 

BTAC and Van Winkle are usually November. A lot of bourbons get released in the fall, some are spring/fall. Any in particular you're curious about?

 

October/November/December is bourbon season. Right in time for the holidays. Some stores hold their allocated products and release in the days leading up to Thanksgiving and Christmas.

 

Not particularly, just first time through a calendar year I want to have an idea what to be looking for and when if that makes sense.

In Atlanta MWND shows up in Oct/Nov. Same time as BTAC and Pappy. Everything else just kind of shows up randomly. I found Stagg Jr Batch 12 in August and I have yet to see EC BP C batch yet on any shelves. Might be bc there is so much B.

My best finds have all just been at Random times. There are a few stores I visit one or two times a month. There are 3 stores I will visit next week on my lunch break just bc I haven't visited since Christmas. Some of my best finds have been at small stores with bars on the windows in shady areas.

 

Trying to make a point of hitting all of the local stores to get a feel for prices and selection and then figure out which ones i will need to hit more often than the others.

 

Most of those bourbons are available year round in spurts, except for the more allocated stuff. Elijah Craig Barrel Proof gets bottled 3 or 4 times a year and can show up pretty much whenever. But yeah, Oct to Dec is when most yearly stuff gets released.

 

Keef Big season is anywhere from Sept-Jan and then there are some random releases in June

 

On this topic, how did that one guy get the Pappy and GTS now in January?

has the store been sitting on them or did they just show up late?
