You’re in SoCal right? I envy you. Every year we go see my dad in SD and I loooove running the beaches...I’m jealous
Rough on the calves for me but easier on the feet. Give me this La Jolla run for the rest of my life (I know my times suck)
When spring breaks here in the Midwest and we hit 60...I’m taking my tights off under my shorts and running in a t-shirt lol
Wind chill (which I didn't realize until after my run yesterday) was in the single digits and I ran into the wind on the way out. Was literally crying because of the wind like .25 miles into my run. Did not like.
I got some gloves, leggings, and a hat for when it's below 40 degrees and that's usually plenty to keep me warm
Got the running itch again after watching that Amazon movie. Have only ever done 5ks but signed up for a 10k in March. I'd like to do a half marathon this year but not sure I'll be able to do it.
you definitely can do a half. A 10k is perfect. Two months to ramp up for it. I'm doing a 10k in March too. A 10 miler in April. And a half (my first) in May.
I have a newborn that will make it tougher to put the time im, but I think I can physically do it if I train for it.
IDGAF in my old age and run in tights with no shorts. Have been out in 10-15 degrees already this winter and find it somewhat enjoyable once I’m warm. But like all of you, give me 50-60 every damn day.
I typically run in my sketchers go runs razor 3 but decided to try running again in my epic reacts. They absolutely destroyed my outer foot. Not sure if the sketchers help me step better or have better cushioning but I was in some pain. What is the typical milage to expect from a shoe?
Yeah I have shitty feet too that have always been a problem. I like the sketchers but the grip coming off the bottom after only 100 miles on them
Running my first half on Saturday. It’s 6 weeks before I thought I’d do my first half but I found a local race and am going to go after it. Hydrating like crazy
My knees have been really bothering me for a few weeks now. New shoes haven't helped, so I'm thinking I'll have to switch to low impact cardio machines and swimming for a few weeks. :(
get plenty of rest. Don’t be afraid/ashamed to walk if you need to. Try and poop before the race. You might not need them but band aid your nips can’t hurt. Enjoy it seriously I mean that. Remember you signed up for it so enjoy the pain. Good luck.
Weird rec, but this helped my knees: that stretch where you stand up right and pull your foot up to your ass. when I started biking my knees would kill afterwords for some reason. So I started doing a bunch of stretching before and after. It helped. But I hate stretching and I hate that stretch in particular, so I would always leave it last. Then I started dropping it all together. Knees started hurting again. Now I make sure I do that stretch for a 30s each x 2 and I don’t have the pain in my knees anymore even though I’ve started jogging a lot more.
Anyone got any good recs on jogging shoes for someone with a slight arch in their feet? I’ve started jogging a lot more in recent months to prepare for a 10k and my work out shoes are rapidly deteriorating.
I have a couple pairs of ASICS they are a couple versions old. I just bought some nikes so I am trying to sell them to defray the cost. They are for a neutral runner with a normal arch. If either of you are interested let me know. I’ll send you pics. They are brand new unworn still in the box. I am looking for 100 for both plus shipping.
Appreciate it. Got a ton of sleep last night and will be in bed early tonight and tomorrow. I’m excited, will use the experience to sharpen my training for a march 1/2
My Asics Gel Nimbus? 450 miles My Brooks Glycerin? 550 miles My Karhu Ortix? 500 miles My Saucony Kinvara? 300-350 miles I'd expect it can vary depending on your usage of the shoe, your style of running, weather, etc.
16 day run streak to start the year. Lost so much fitness in 2019. Gotta get it back. Taking it slow though, progressing slowly.
Sore for the first mile, then kind of goes away when the blood gets flowing, but it's still tight for the rest of the run. Pain is in the soft spot where all the fluid and cartilage is
Had a blast this am. First ever half, first 7 miles averaged 9:15 splits, 9:47 the rest of the way. Excited to see what I can cut off between now and 3/1
Looking for either an early summer or fall marathon to travel to. Any recommendations/races that RunLyfe is doing and would be down to hang out at?
I'm in the same boat, I basically did not run at all in 2019 due to injury and personal issues. I've started the year 5K a day and it feels like progress is at a snails pace compared to where I was in 2018. Good Luck
Running in a half in May and last night I decided to bump up my training from Hal Higdon's Novice 2 plan to his Advanced plan. I've ran in quite a few half marathons now + two fulls, so I really want to see if I can best my PR (1:37ish). Has hill work and speed work, two things I haven't done since cross country in HS. Looking forward to seeing how it goes when training starts in three weeks.
First run of the month yesterday and I ran six miles in 9:29/mile pace - 2min/mile faster pace than two months ago. Felt great and probably could’ve gone faster. My goal has been to crack 10min/mile pace. Stoked that I have reached my goal and excited to see if I can work my way to 8min/mile pace as I continue working out constantly.
Fair warning, just like any other activity the gains slow down as you get faster. Don’t get discouraged if it’s harder to get to 8.
Anyone with any experience with ice baths? Yay nay? The Father Internet is inconclusive on it. thinking of doing it after my longer runs.
I've had good experience in general with icing. Yes I've done a few ice baths after long runs, long runs and significant soreness, and after marathons. Never had any issues with them and seemed to help recover faster. Bath in general is good. I know a guy who takes a hot bath after a long run and that helps him.
Left big toe pain won't go away. Right heel / plantar fasciitis being a bitch. Really frustrating. Just trying to remember when I first started running I had a few issues here and there and just had to take it slow and work through them. - Waiting for some new shoes to arrive. Hope that helps. - Been icing a bit. - Tried to run through it but my last 7 miler was probably dumb - even though I finished that run feeling just fine.
I don't run a ton these days outside of on a sanddune but beat the living shit out of my body and hot/cold helps some. A very cheap way to help with leg recovery is voodoo bands. Have a hypervolt too but that's more for upper body soreness, recovery is a bitch.
what shoes did you get? I'm in need of some new ones, mine are flat and have no support left after about 430 miles.
Saucony Kinvara 10 from Fleet Feet. I like Fleet Feet's app, they give me $ for running miles and for buying stuff, so I had a bonus $15 to use. Got the shoes for $70.
I love them, do them after long runs. I’ve read all the science on it, but for old guys like me there’s no down side to flushing some lactic acid and knocking out some inflammation. a college trainer told me the best thing to do would be to soak for 5 min In the coldest water my faucet will pour with no ice, take a hot shower, and then do the ice bath. Took 15-20 minutes but felt great afterwards.
Anyone use bombas socks? Looking to get some better socks for running and they seem highly rated. I’m debating between no show/ankle length and which style between cushioned or lightweight
What is everyones least favorite conditions to run in? I think heavy rain is number 1 for me, I would take 10 degrees over what I ran in last night. Over 90 degrees might be worse, but that is rarely an issue for me in Seattle.
