Opened up the Dovetail, really hot to start but the back end is really flavorful. I know batch 3 isn’t everyone’s favorite, but I’m really enjoying it. Getting a butterscotch type flavor

So I picked up a bottle of the 2019 Stagg and a bottle of the McKenna 10 yr BIB.

That McKenna is delicious

 

I couldn’t resist trying one of the samples tonight.



As far as my uneducated palate goes, and considering this is 120 proof, I find it extremely delicious and has no burn. There are a lot of flavors that I probably won’t be able to describe, but I love it.

I have read a lot of guys here describing chocolate and caramel flavors and I was kind of skeptical on how a bourbon could have those flavors but I’m picking them up here.

 

I paid over retail for the Stagg but he had a case of McKenna and sold me the bottle for retail.

 

Poured another glass of little book two, my bottles half gone and I am sad.

 

Local restaurant chain buys up all the allocations they can and then turns around and doesn’t up charge much when they sell it. They have a couple different locations they sell it at.

dumb question, but how can you tell which batch of Dovetail a certain bottle is from? I looked at a couple of bottles the other night & didn’t see anything on them

I was in a store the other stay looking at a bottle of Stagg Jr. and kept rotating and turning it trying to figure out the batch number like a dumbass. Finally just googled it and all easy from there.

 

Batch 12 spittin’ that hot fire at 132.3

 

Name a better $23 rye than Old Forrester Rye I’ll wait.

Speaking of sweet pours, I snagged a Basil Hayden Dark Rye the other day. While it is not overly complex, I'm really digging the fruit forward flavor profile. It is sweet AF though.

 

I like rittenhouse for that price

Plus there is a number printed on the bottle just beneath the cork.

 

I have not been a fan of that, but I haven't tried it in about 6 months, so maybe I'll give it another try.

 

For old fashioneds I like Wild Turkey 101 Rye when I can find it.

anecdotal, obviously, but it didnt even last a day at one of my locals

now i dont know the allotment they had, and perhaps releasing it the same day as bakers 13 brought in more potential buyers than would normally be expected, but thats how it ended up shaking out

missed on it and the bakers, but i still walked out with a hibiki japanese harmony and a bookers kentucky chew, so my toes are still tappin

 

Out at a bar with typical bourbons, makers, bulleit etc. and see a 2018 OF Birthday Bourbon sitting collecting dust on a top shelf. Got a pour and it was the rest of the bottle so bartender just charged me $11 for a pour

My store got their barrel of Buffalo Trace in. Walked out with a handle and two fifths since that pick disappears in a week or two usually.

 

Bourbon tasting nights with friends are so neat

 

How does this work? Everyone bring a bottle and pour a round from each one and discuss?

 

I haven a whole bunch of bottles to share but lots of other people bring things they’ve collected that are interesting and then we all come to a consensus on the next one and talk about it
