Riddle and Lee were eliminated quickly because Vince doesn’t care about NXT, at least as a third brand. Look at how little NXT was even featured in the build to the show.
I'm not his doctor but I really hate this. It sucks to see guys risk their long term health because they can't get out of the business.
If that is true how do you explain the female rumble? It was dominated by NXT talent and they made Bianca a star and cemented Shayna as one bad ass chick
NXT has a deeper bench. I would also expect Shayna and Bianca to be moved from NXT to SD or Raw before Mania. That to me is the biggest issue. NXT is booked weekly as a third brand, but I am convinced Vince only sees it as a developmental brand.
I'm curious if he's been hitting up the stem cell treatment you see so many former stars like Hogan, Nash and others use. I think a ton of sports stars have also gone down this road in south america and Europe with amazing results. It wouldn't surprise me if he tried this out and it improved his condition greatly. If this was 15 years ago I would question this move like you are and question Vince just trying to milk more money out of final run. But I think WWE is beyond corporate at this point and wants to risk nothing when it comes to the wrestlers safety. His scans and results must have been night and day to get cleared for action and a 3 year contract on top of that.
I think Vince doesn't see women as a draw and when they have been given the chance early on they struggled to live up to the hype. Jericho said as much on his podcast. But to think this man who micro manages every last detail about his company would ignore 40% of his roster and not have any say or give any fucks about the rumble is silly.
Correct and he could've just jobbed them out and not made any look strong. He could've used the rumble to make his current talent the stars and build them up. They chose to make the focus of the Rumble the NXT talent. idk I think people are over thinking this shit. Sure NXT is still in a sense development. How else will WWE get talent groomed in the WWE style. But Vince thought enough of the product to put it on national tv and give them two hours weekly. Sure in part it was to suppress the success of AEW but he still put them on that stage. And he booked them to look beyond strong for the Survivor Series.
He micromanages the stuff he cares about though and delegates the stuff he doesn’t. We see it all the time. Someone will get hot or get themselves over and then you see Vince step in because he all of sudden cares and micromanages them into oblivion
With no Becky Lynch, Sasha Banks or Ronda Rousey they needed the NXT women help carry the load and they did a pretty decent job. The top 2-3 in NXT are better than 2-3 bottom of wwe roster who never see the light of day. It is smart that they actually realized that for once.
Yeah I'm not arguing that they needed the numbers. But two of the three most featured talents in that rumble was Bianca, Shayna and Charlotte. They got the spotlight. I would argue that Charlotte for winning the thing wasn't heavily featured or made to look amazing during her time in the match.
I'm not sure stem cell treatment is going to fix a fused neck. They fused 3 of his vertebrae together. New Day was talking on their pod how its sad when any of the old guys come back none of them can walk straight. Angle came back and it wasn't because he was healthy. These guys are one botch away from dying in the ring and it sucks.
Vince is throwing Saudi blood money at these old guys, who come back because they're hooked on the pop, and one of these days, someone's going to take a bump like Sting did against Seth Rollins, except they're not going to walk away lucky to be walking...and Vince will shrug and say "independent contractors, I'm not responsible." Incidentally, Vince is apparently throwing money at Sting for another match, after he nearly was paralyzed in his last one.
you make it sound like they're addicts and Vince is the dealer. these are grown men making financial decisions I can't blame Vince for giving them jobs. I blame everyone who's taking the blood money, but that's a different discussion.
Obviously they can choose to stay retired. But I described them as addicts on purpose. Edge swore for a decade he was done, and not because he was burned out or because he left on bad terms, etc. He said he was out because, in his own words "I didn't want to take one bad bump and never walk again." Obviously, every man can make his own decisions, but when Vince is offering you 2mm to come back for a match in 2013, you say no. When he offers you 10mm in 2020, you say yes and take the risk. It's their choice but...Vince is a dealer? Yeah that's my analogy and I'm sticking with it.
Mike Johnson reported months ago that AEW was also in discussions with Edge. This is an industry problem in general.
God I loved this. I also think they missed his first spear in 9 years in the broadcast because they were showing the crowd when he entered the ring. Speaking of which they showed way too much of the crowd right away and not you know.....EDGE COMING OUT OF THE ENTRANCE. Also the pyro looks pretty close to the crowd and glad someone didn't get lit on fire.
not gonna lie I was pretty pissed they missed his first spear in a match in 9 years to show some fucking fatass in the crowd holding a phone recording it.
judging from the youtube edit just posted, so are they. They quickly cut from him entering the ring to the second spear.
I will say seeing Edge last night reminded me how much we were robbed by him having to retire due to his injuries.
Vince did force these guys to work 270 days a year and take ridiculous bumps and risks during that era. Couple that with his efforts top stop unionization and buying out/destroying all of his competition so that wrestlers couldn't bargain for things like retirement accounts, healthcare, etc. and Vince doesn't have clean hands here.
Very lucky to have drawn #17 and Charlotte for the Women's Rumble. Thanks Bankz for running this. I don't post much in this thread but the Rumble Drawing every year makes for a helluva fun event. How about Liv last night (Spoilered for size): Spoiler [\spoiler]
Dolph is also pissed on twitter. I was going to mention this on the preshow but the camera work was awful. Cutting away from big spots in the Andrade match. Most of the rumble they spent more time on fan reactions vs the inring stuff. Not sure if KD wasn't at this show or what but the truck was bad last night.
AJ Styles was injured last night. He separated his shoulder. Most likely on his elimination where his arm gave out and he fell to the ground. Probably explains the somewhat lame exit of Orton as it seemed to be on the fly and not something planned for a final 6 participant
handled it as well as they probably could on the fly like that. Definitely seemed weird last night but that makes a lot of sense. I noticed doctors were talking with Styles during the match and then shortly after he was eliminated. Figured something was up.
They said he landed awkwardly on the spear and knew something was wrong, so they adjusted on the fly. https://wrestlingnews.co/wwe-news/injury-news-on-aj-styles-is-not-good/
They are addicts and most of them will even tell you that. If you had an arena full of people cheering and chanting for you every time you walked out, you would be addicted too. Shit is probably better than any drug
I think the issue is people in general make it seem like Vince is the only dealer, but every promoter is a dealer.
Yes but there is a difference to walking out to an arena at a WWE event and a sound stage, ballroom, or large gym like most promoters run from. Until AEW there were few other shows that can match the size of a WWE event
It’s all related though. Companies still book Jerry Lawler to wrestle despite him having a heart attack on live TV. Vince doesn’t let him in the ring anymore.

His eyes at the 40 second mark of that video... He's never going to be on mount Rushmore for anyone but he's one of my personal all time fav's.
