I think Yamazaki 12 for MSRP at $100 is a no brainer. I’ve started branching into scotch lately since bourbon is tough in my area. Got a Johnny Walker green (15 year statement) for $35 which is a complete steal, and a Glenlivet 18 for 90 which is the lowest I’ve ever seen it.
I got it at $100 at two raffles right before Christmas so guess that was an even better deal than I thought
I bought a bottle of Jack Daniels for some Thanksgiving guests, and now it just sits at the bottom of my cabinet... 5oz shy of full. Every time I see it:
CoastalOrange we drank the booze you sent me for my Secret Santa on Sunday. Thanks again! Hibiki - Almost a fruity, apple-ish aroma. Very nice. Yamazaki 12 - More scotch-like. Very enjoyable. I slightly preferred Hibiki, however. Balvenie Carribean Cask - Wow. I loved this. Elijah Gregg Single Barrel - I enjoyed more than my friends who aren't as accustomed to barrel proof. More for me... This led to less coherent memories of the rums. Travelers Rum - Nothing to complain about. Tasty rum. Foursquare Rum - I remember really, really liking this one but I can't recall any details. Prior to this, I was drinking Jefferson Ocean, Four Roses Single Barrel, Stagg Jr, and OGD 114 pretty heavily. Monday sucked. I also smoked the Montecristo. That was absolutely delicious.
That sounds like one hell of an evening! Glad you enjoyed everything. Though if Monday led you down that path, I can't imagine that path led you to a solid Tuesday.
Oh I know those feels. That describes my first dance with EGBP to a tee. And now you’re asking yourself, “did he just want to toss in an Elijah Graig joke?” Spoiler: Answer
Curious what you think. That store pick is one of my favorites, have another bottle of it on my way also to back up my 2/3 empty bottle.
I had an awesome old fashioned with a rum I had never seen called Privateer. https://privateerrum.com/spirit/navy-yard/
For you fellow scotch heads. Went back to Luckys since this is their last day open. Bowmore came in at $273 and Laphroaig was $417. Total shock at those prices
Went into a small store I hadn’t been in yet & looked around - he had some stuff I’ve never seen or wasn’t as marked up as I’ve seen it at other small stores. Anything I should grab from the list below? These are all typically pretty scarce around here. - McKenna 10 - $60 - Yippee Ki Yay - $90 - WT Decades - $120 - EHT SB - $48 (already have one) - Little Book 2 - $130 - 1792 BiB - $35 (probably gonna hold out for a store pick on this one)
I’d see if he’d take $100 for the Little Book and then just buy a shelf bottle too. edit - bring a shelf bottle that you would buy anyway, let him see you’re an actual customer that actually enjoys bourbon and may actually return to his store... then offer $100 for the LB
skip Yippee Ki Yay $75 or so is retail and it’s a novelty bottle for me, not something I can drink every day. I paid $125 for my little book 2 and I’d do it again, I really enjoy it.
There is so much good bourbon under $100 these days that I’m hard pressed to break that price point anymore.
I don’t disagree with this, but there’s a lot of $100-150 bottles that are very interesting and also semi availabl
Picked up an Elijah Craig Gregg Barrel Proof for 59.99 and a Buffalo Trace Single Barrel for 25.99 on the rounds today at lunch.
Picked up two bottles of Blantons for 63 each and a Buffalo Trace for 24 yesterday. Blantons is one of my favorites, and it doesn’t hurt having another bottle of Buffalo Trace.
That’s fair. My daily drinkers these past few weeks have been: Hancock’s President Reserve ($50) Makers Mark RC6 ($70) EHT small batch ($43) Forester’s (banana) Rye ($23) I’m a simple man.
Full five bottle horizontal of EH Taylor, asking price $1,299. I think I could stomach $750 for that.
Small batch Single barrel Barrel proof Rye Amaranth Thought that’s the whole EHT line, minus the Todnado bottles?
