Don’t think I’ve ever had a problem with actual flights one time I missed a flight because my dumbass brother thought it was okay to drive me a few hours to the airport with low tire pressure
think the most I’ve ever really been delayed is probably a couple hours. pretty lucky I suppose. I don’t really get too wound up about it. recently did have a flight get canceled for weather but just drove from Dallas to KC in my rental car instead
Coming from someone that flys 49 weeks a year, it’s Delta or bust, and Southwest if I’m in a pinch. I’ll fly to an airport further away from the job site and drive a longer distance just to fly Delta.
I do like Delta. Have good luck with AA. SWA is fine but I hate their boarding system and generally everything about flying them. United is usually the one I have the worst luck with. Alaska is prob my favorite US carrier, they rule
I’ve grown to despise AA and United, cause they act like we we’ve got your money, and you’re now at our mercy. Where Delta and Southwest will exhaust every resource, 3 weeks ago my flight from Detroitt to Bham was delayed because the plane was stuck somewhere for 4 hours, Delta put me on another flight to Atlanta and then covered my rental car home.
I don’t where you guys fly in and out of, but I’m delayed about 75% of the time I fly (3-4 times a month). It’s usually about 30-45 minutes, but in the last year I’ve been delayed 13 hrs in Dallas, and had a flight cancelled leaving LAX
I just saw my shuttle drove away as I was walking up. It’s going to be another 10-15 mins for them to come back.
Leaving Wilmington on my way home with a stop in Atlanta. Flight in I had the row to myself and it was during the tourney so I sat in the middle and watched 3 early round games at once. Arrive in atl and flight was supposed to leave at 8. Delay after delay, flights to where I was going that were scheduled after us have already landed. Finally we leave around 4am, had my wife’s car this time and it won’t start. Have to take an Uber home at 5:30 just so I can take an another one back 3 hours later to get the car. We were literally selling the car that day.
I’ve never had any issues with SWA boarding. I jump on the app right at 24hrs prior and always end up in A group.
Flying to Dallas from Santa Barbara via PHX for the Oregon/Auburn opener last August. Land in PHX and have a lovely meal and excited to get to Dallas Friday evening for beers with Zack Zedalis a.tramp BayouMafia and Corky Bucek Flight keeps being pushed back due to lightening in Dallas. Finally 8 hours later they start to board us, once the plane was half full they cancelled the flight and pulled everyone back off. No more flights available into Dallas that would get me into town before kickoff. Consider renting a car and driving the 4 hours. Fuck that. Get on standby list for Austin, see an older flight attendant who had an Oregon “O” waiting for our flight. Great conversation with her and convinced she got me on the plane that night. Arrive in ATX at 1am, rent a car, drive to buddies house in Ft Worth by 4am on game day.
If you arent traveling for business and you're hungover its pretty fucking early. If its dark when you leave the hotel it qualifies imo.
A redeye is an overnight flight where you leave in the evening or later at night and arrive the next morning. You see them mostly on west to east routes domestically because they take advantage of the time zones moving forward
In TSA pre line. Security asks woman in front of me for her ID. She was apparently not aware she’d need it, and had to take off her backpack, dig through it, and find her ID. Takes every bit of 5 min to finally locate it. Then the guard says ok thank you ma’am but you’re not precheck so I’ll need you to go over here
Our initial flight got delayed. 9 mins walk from arrival gate to our connecting flight. We will barely have enough time, if at all. Won’t be shocked it we miss it. we are row 19. What are the feelings on telling the people in front of you that you have a really close connection and would like to move to the front of the plane once at the gate?
Literally just landed in Vegas after a 2 hour flight delay. Guy next to me claimed he heard the delay was from the flight before ours and they turned around cause some guy flipped his shit. It started with the guy wanting to hang his bag and SWA no and put it in the overhead. Probably some truth in there and probably most not.
Land at 1115. Should be at gate at 1125. Flight out is at 1144. Have to go from A terminal to B terminal at ATL. Prayers up
they are both delta. I’m sure they are aware of our connection. I have been told there are a few other people on our flight trying to make that flight.
I'd never missed a connection due to a delay until last week. Alitalia sucks ass. They screwed up my flight from tirana to rome by 4.5 hours then I had to fly into a piece of shit 30 year old alitalia plane instead of a new delta a350 from rome to miami. Dealing with Alitalia customer service made me really understand and empathize with the people who are on video absolutely melting down and getting into fights with airline employees.
they’ll usually hold a plane for 5-10 min to let a connection happen if everything else is on time because they have a buffer built into each flight so even if it takes off late they can say it arrived on time
To an extent. They will usually aim to have the boarding door closed 10 minutes before the departure time. This is the time they will allow it to stay open for late connections if they must. All of the airlines on time metrics are built on when the jet bridge comes off and when the main cabin door is closed. They won't jeopardize missing that time for a late connection.
I flew into Philadelphia 2018 the same day that woman was sucked out of the Southwest plane window mid-flight and died. Flying out of Columbus on United, we had a bird strike and engine failure upon take off. Emergency landing, not cool.
A few years ago I was flying home from Berlin to miami via wow airlines which means I was flying through Iceland. The route was berlin-Reykjavik-Boston-miami. Flight one from Berlin to Iceland was supposed to leave at 9 am Berlin time. We got delayed 3 ish hours until noon. Being young and pretty broke (hence the wow airlines) I only bought myself a croissant for breakfast. Big mistake. That was the last thing I ate for 24 hours. I was supposed to have a 2+hour layover in Iceland where my plan was to get food there because it was cheaper then the 20 dollar ham and cheese sandwich on the flight. By the time I boarded my flight to Iceland, I wasn’t feeling great. When I arrived In Iceland I had a splitting headache. Because of the delay in Berlin, I was told to sprint to my connecting flight in Reykjavik. So no food there. (8 hours without food) Then my flight to Boston was delayed 2+ hours. But it was weird. They held us in a sectioned off area with no access to the food in the terminal. They kept telling us 5 more minutes, even though we didn’t board for 2 hours. (10 hours without food) finally board and I’m in full ‘I feel like death mode’ so I don’t even have the mental capacity to order the $20 ham and cheese. (14 hours no food) Arrive in Boston and now I have to collect my checked bags, go through customs and board my flight to miami which has its gates closing in no joke 10 minutes. By now I am in a full blown fever dream state where I vaguely recall sprinting what felt like 5 miles to the jet blue desk where I’m forced to change my flight to one landing in palm beach which is 90 min north of miami and also leaving in the next 5 minutes. So I have to sprint to that gate after checking my bags. I have just enough time to get some awful bacon jerky bar from a vending machine and text the people picking me up to bring me dinner because I haven’t eaten. (20 hours no food) land in palm beach and I’m in such bad shape the guys with the golf cart meant for disabled people sees me struggling to stand and takes pity on me and drives me to baggage claim. (22 hours no food) get to my ride and they have a burger from some random place they ate dinner at. I ate it and passed out in the car. Around 10 pm local time. I woke up about 20 hours later in a bed with a 102+ fever. Kept my out of action for another 2 weeks. That was the last time I flew a budget airline. Fuck that noise
My most bizarre travel story involved no delays, but nevertheless was an eventful journey to Moldova in, I think, 2007. The trip started with a simple flight from Knoxville to Washington, there were no issues with this part of the trip, but it was morning flight and then we had an approximately six hour layover in Washington. The layover was not a big deal but the time does come in play later. Where things begin to become interesting is on the leg from Washington to Frankfurt. This is an era before entertainment in seat backs and everyone has to watch the same thing on the screens hanging down from the ceiling, but on this approximately eight hour flight the entertainment system is broken. This is also an era before you can watch things on your phone, and I did not have anything to read because I was content with watching whatever movie the airline thought I would enjoy. So it's an eight hour flight with only Sky Mall and the map of where the plane is over the Atlantic on the TV screen. Additionally, I do not know why this was the case but about two thirds of the flight were people from India. Perhaps this flight was continuing on to somewhere in India after landing in Germany. Normally this would not be something I would have an issue with, and to this point in my life I don't think I ever had any racist inclination, but during this eight hours I began to have a great deal of disdain for everyone from the Indian subcontinent. I believe we took off in early evening and meal service was pretty early in the flight, and this is where things began to take a terribly obnoxious turn. Seemingly every person of Indian descent wanted a vegetarian meal, which is totally fine, but seemingly none of them requested one in advance. So the stewardesses quickly ran out of vegetarian meals and that turned into dozens of people whining loud enough for everyone on the plane to hear them. But worse more than a few of these people start loud and angry confrontations with the stewardesses, who can do nothing about the fact that there are no more vegetarian meals. Then, I don't know about you people, but I have never pressed the call button on any flight I have been on. These people seemed to think there was prize at the end of the flight for the person who pressed it the most. It was constantly, "I need a blanket", "I need a pillow", "It's too hot", "It's too cold", "Can I have some water", "Can I have a snack". It was just a constant barrage of complaining and neediness from dozens of people for the duration of the flight. Maybe had I had earphones in and was watching a movie I would not have been so in tune to this happening around me, but that was not the case. The plane was set up in a 3-5-3 row set up and I was in the second seat in the middle section. My friend was in the aisle seat, and gets motion sick pretty easily. He proceeded to vomit pretty thoroughly three time during the course of the flight. I don't have a particularly strong stomach and sitting a foot away from the sight, sound and smell of vomit it took all had not to follow suit each time. Since this time I sleep incredibly well on planes, often falling asleep before the safety instructions, but for whatever reason that was not the case on this flight. To make that worse the Indian guy on other side of me, who did not smell especially hygienic, was having no trouble sleeping. He was however having a lot of trouble not sleeping on my shoulder. On roughly a dozen occasion is head drifted over onto me, and I gave him a shrug to wake him up and get him off of me. The final time I had grown frustrated and gave him a pretty forceful shove into his wife on the other side. Finally the plane landed in Frankfurt at sometime in the morning and our flight to Moldova did not leave until early evening. We had like an 8-10 hour layover, and I had not slept any so I'm pretty tired at this point. I have not been to the Frankfurt airport before or since, but on this occasion it seemed especially busy and especially loud. We walk around looking for some quiet corner we can chill for most of the day. We find this little alcove-like area. There is a doorway, but no door, it's just open to the rest of the airport, but kind of hidden behind a fake tree. The lights are off but there are a couple of chairs and a coffee table with some magazines. I proceed to lay down in the floor and fall asleep. After about an hour nap I am awakened by some guy with a janitor's cart screaming very forcefully in German. I'm not sure what he was yelling, but evidently we were in an employ breakroom and he did not want us there. Now comes the best part of the journey, traveling on Air Moldova. So we set out to find our gate for our flight to Moldova. We look at the board, find the number, and walk all over the terminal three or four times looking for a gate that just does not exist. Finally I go to a help desk and ask the lady. She tells me that our gate is downstairs. I don't know about you, but every airplane I have flown on started above ground, so a gate underground did not make a lot of sense, but we found the stairs and proceeded to the basement of the Frankfurt airport. Low and behold, there was our gate. Outside of it appeared to be a parking garage. It was dark with a dungeon-like feel you might expect from an gate located in the airport basement. Many of the overhead lights were out, there was water damage on the ceiling and poster were half hanging off the walls. So I ask the gate agent if we are in the right spot. She tells me yes, and that a bus will take us to the plane. So we cram onto the bus and it leaves the parking garage. This is probably a good time to mention that Frankfurt Airport is quite a large complex. Our bus drives past every single passenger plane and gate in the main portion of the airport. We then proceed to pass every cargo plane, FedEx, UPS, whatever other service they use in Europe, we passed all of them. Then we start going past military aircraft, and we are running out of places to go. I'm beginning to think we are taking a bus to Moldova. At the very end of the runway next to the airport fence, is this kind of white, kind of dirty cream colored, completely unmarked airplane. No logo, no tail number, nothing. This plane is also easily 30 to 40 years old at this time, like maybe one of the first commercial passenger jets. We enter the plane from the tail. Not a front door/ back door situation. The stairs came down the center of the tail. The only time I have seen this before is in DB Cooper reenactments on the History Channel. Then when getting inside the plane we see roughly one in four seats are missing. They used the be there, you can see the plywood under the carpet where they were bolted in, but now they are gone. The entire row across the aisle from me was missing, in other spots it was just individual seats that were just taken out. Some of the seat were scratched and the padding was sticking out. There are noticeable stains on the floor and scuff marks on the walls. My seat did not include a seatbelt. I was in the middle seat and the people on both sides of me both had their seatbelts. On the subject of the person beside me, it was an old Russian lady who did not speak English, but really wanted to talk to me. She did speak German, and I took German in high school so I have the conversational skills of a stupid kindergartener. I did learn that this was her second time on an airplane, the first being to come visit her son in Germany. About an hour into the flight we start experiencing some significant turbulence. More so than I have experienced before or since. At one point I thought we might go into a barrel roll. This causes this lady to start freaking out. She is clinging to my arm and maybe praying in Russian. She's asking me what's happening and if we are going to crash. And all I can say is "Das ist normalisch" and "Fleugzeug ist sehr gut" while giving a thumbs up, because again, I can't really speak German. Eventually that passes and we are cruising well enough for the stewardesses to come by. They have a selection of rolls in basket that I'm sure were great, I just didn't want anything. I tell the lady "no thank you" and waived my hand in a manner to suggest I didn't want one. She begins to step away but then proceed to throw a roll at me. I eventually ate it after leaving the airport. Anyway, that was probably my worst flight experience.
Ya it did look pretty cluttered. There were paragraph breaks but I put in extra spaces to make it easier to read. Sorry for any inconvenience.
Whoa it’s like I scrolled for an hour but when I realized it was hiking and National Parks MVP tspa I read every word. Twice
I had to connect from the West Coast in Chicago O’Hare on the same day in February 2010 that Atlanta got six inches of snow and Dallas got it’s all time record snowfall. Delta and American basically had a ripple effect that cancelled every flight they had. I booked a room in OHare as soon as I saw the forecast the day before because I knew they would sell it if I didn’t use it. I made it to OHare from LA, but I have never seen more people stranded in an airport in my life. People just sleeping on the floor everywhere.
Flying from Kathmandu to Bangkok a few years ago. Nepal is obviously a developing country, so a pretty shoddy airport. After like 6 hours of delays, they just cancel the flight. Re-scheduled for next day. We were in the international terminal and had already had our passports stamped for "exiting" Nepal, so had to go backwards through customs and they just took a black marker and covered that exit stamp. Little sketchy. Get down to ticketing and all the bags were being taken off the plane and put behind the check-in counter. No attendants. After about 20 minutes with no attendants, some Nepali locals just walk behind the counter and start grabbing bags -- no verification that it was actually their bag, just walk over the scale, grab a bag, walk out. Becomes just a free-for-all with people of all nationalities walking behind ticket counter, grabbing bags and walking out of the airport. This starts a mad rush for everyone. I had seen my bag from the start and thankfully grabbed it pretty quick, but I'm certain several people had bags stolen that day. Felt like I was at a concert just elbowing people out of the way, snatched my backpack, and forced my way back out. Fucking crazy. Chase card reimbursed for a nice hotel that night so didn't have to come out of pocket.
Not Delay, but scary flight story. From Atl->London->JoBurg->Capetown JoBurg was delayed a little bit. Taxied out and started to take off, all things going fine. Probably felt like we're seconds from take off. Mother fuckers absolutely STOOD on the breaks. Tres screeching, Everyone thrown into the seat in front of them, unsecured cell phones flying on the ground and sliding 10-15 rows forward, emergency lights on, people were screaming & started praying/screaming out to Jesus. IDK how close we were to a disaster or if the pilots over reacted or if we had enough runway....but it was a near pant shitting moment. Some critical sensor failed right before take off that would have effected us landing. They didn't swap out planes, just "fixed" the issue. That wasn't the most comfortable take-off/landing when we all got back on the plane.
Flying from Mumbai to Agra, India back in 2014. At 11pm the night before I get an email from Air India letting me know that our 1pm flight was now departing at 10:30am. Get to the old domestic airport in Mumbai and find out that there's some random fee that can only be paid in cash and only by standing in a line to first get an invoice, then standing in a different line to pay it. Flight delays until 1pm, the originally scheduled time, but now we are making a stop in Ahmedabad first. Get on the plane and the largest person I've ever seen in India, easily 400 pounds, is sitting in my seat and his. Flight attendant gives me a hard time about changing seats but all is good. We take off, then land not in Ahmedabad but Varanasi. We are told that there's too much fog to land in Ahmedabad, so all of those passengers are going to be taken by bus. They get off and we take off again, and this time we're told that there's too much fog in Agra so we are landing in Delhi. Once we land we sit on the plane for an hour or so, then are told to deplane and get on a bus to the terminal. At the terminal we are told that we are on our own from there, and our bags will be at baggage claim which is at least a half mile walk. However we get to Agra is up to us. First and last ever Air India trip
My SW flight tonight from Nashville to Denver has 45 people on it. Look out world, bro is flying private
