Until there is a vaccine this is just gonna keep happening although the curves will likely be flatter and healthcare systems less overwhelmed.
I was getting a bit skeptical that mainly the American soccer media seemed to be reporting it. Fingers crossed though
I posted that more disputing Twellman’s claim than supporting it but it doesn’t sound like it’s expected to be much further behind
Meh I’m still hopeful because a. teams have been training for a few weeks now and b. you have to start back up eventually and at a certain point the risk of now vs. later is immaterial
Also, it’s Germany. It appears they have their testing regime under control and they seem to building consensus toward it. Now I just need to find a German club to support...
If you’re new to Bundesliga, welcome. I don’t have a club but it’s incredibly fun to watch. RB Leipzig is very fun to watch
I love watching a lot of the clubs but you can’t deny it’s fun watching them. Don’t tell anyone else but I love watching Liverpool for the same reason But honestly any random match is typically entertaining. Plus lots of
I’ve watched only in spurts (usually btw the 7:30 and 10a Prem window). My only no goes are Dortmund, Bayern Munich, and Leipzig. Love the Union Berlin story but have two buddies that already support them after going to a match a few years ago. Schalke seem fun? I’ve never been to that part of Germany tho.
I’d just watch and see if you’re drawn to anyone. I tend to find myself watching Werder Bremen, Schalke, RB Leipzig and Dortmund plenty depending on if their American is playing. Tried Düsseldorf for Steffen but they’re just awful
Schalke have been pretty rough to watch the past few seasons, even when they get a result. Gladbach and Leverkusen are generally entertaining, and any matches between Rhine-Ruhr opponents (Dortmund, Schalke, Gladbach, Leverkusen, Cologne, Dusseldorf) is always an incredible atmosphere. Wolfsburg might be fielding 4 Americans within the next couple years, but many have the group of Wolfsburg, Leverkusen, Hoffenheim, and Leipzig that they won't support.
I know the issues with Leipzig and Hoffenheim (Hoffenheim doesn’t bug me as much because it’s something I’d like to do if I ever get my billions but I get it) Is the Leverkusen/Wolfsburg thing due to corporate involvement? Or their...operations under certain regimes?
Here’s the first big test for the league: two Köln players and one staff tested positive and are now in quarantine. All are asymptomatic. Group training is still continuing.
If this happens when play starts up, then what? What if it’s your star player and all of a sudden, even though he’s asymptomatic, he’s lost for 14 days?
I guess so yeah. Would suck for the club of course because they’d otherwise be fine but that’s their plan. I’m sure they would test every day after that hoping for a negative result.
Hasn't Dybala tested positive 4 times in 6 weeks? Imagine the reaction if Sommer were missing for basically the entire finish to the season if that were him. I just don’t understand the thought here of “oh well sucks for them”
same thing as if he got the flu or pulled a hamstring. He’d be out. The problem is what if 13 players test positive.
The last news a couple days ago has been disputed so not sure what is going on with Dybala. But yeah it definitely would suck, but at the same time, I don’t see any other way if you want to return any time before a vaccine is fully available.
That’s why these early cases are so important imo. It seems like this one is limited to the 3 individuals considering everybody would have been tested, so if it stays that way and they can fully return, it bodes well for the sustainability of this thing. Of course the opposite could happen too and it spreads more amongst the team and this all crashes down.
we know arteta had it as well as someone on Chelsea and Everton and as far as we know it didn’t run through those teams. It’s definitely a real possibility and if an entire team comes down with it, it messes a lot of things up. Probably ends the experiment
God forbid the Bundesliga tries to return in a relatively safe manner rather than cancelling the league for 2+ years.
Same with the Gobert case where only he and Mitchell tested positive iirc. The Raptors played them the night before and all tested negative too.
but that didn’t happen with arsenal, Chelsea, Everton, etc. assuming they tested the other players after the positive
No I would say that one player if it’s a key player is still a problem. Comparing it to someone just getting sick or injured is way off IMO with them making a decision to move forward knowing someone would need to be quarantined for 14 days
