I used to work for a giant EPC firm and shifting to a privately held, family owned GC was the best decision I ever made.

Mind bottling to watch the director of the CDC say something so nonsensical. Goes against everything we know about the virus and how it spreads.

I totally feel your pain man.. I work for the Federal Government.. The guidelines that my Corporation has to follow are those of the Federal Government because it is for the department of defense, and the Feds see no need to dial back production for the safety, and well being of their employees because it will disrupt production, and they only care about getting the projects built, and not affecting the bottom line.. To make matters worse, we are right in the middle of the chaos because NY is alittle over an 1-1.5 hours away, and Connecticut is being hit pretty hard.. Like you i'm considered essential so regardless i'm required to be there with limited options. My company has 17 confirmed cases with no idea whatsoever how many people have been exposed.. The Defense department was woefully unprepared to deal with an outbreak, and now it's showing because they have no emergency plan in place..It's a total embarrassment that the US government is more worried about making the bottom line, than saving lives, and the safety of the 8500 workers they employ.. Trump handled this terribly, but everyone involved in the decision making, and how they have handled this is deplorable at best...It makes me sick just thinking about it..

because the Fed prints more money every time unemployment numbers come out.

I think its dumb as fuck to give money to businesses who may not need it so they can keep people employed who don't have work to do when we could have people just use unemployment as it's intended.

I know a business owner who is having his PPP funds pay his employees and he's having his employees paint his house and build a barn for him.

This MF is getting free labor and using it to personally benefit and it's all legal.

I know another one who hasn't had a sale drop yet and is getting 170k in wages he was going to pay anyway to do work that he had lined up. By the time this hits him he'll be out of the 8 week window for forgiveness and he can fire people if needed.

170k. Think about that when your 1200 comes in.

Florida will be (negligently) “re-opened” by Desantis before a vaccine or new president or really any significant flattening. Many other R states will as well. You know this. Unless by “we” you meant your personal house then just ignore me.

COVID-19 poses a major threat to jails, prisons, and detention centers across the country. In an environment where sick staff have been working and hand sanitizer is considered contraband, incarcerated people are at high risk of being infected.

If the coronavirus spreads inside a facility, it could be catastrophic –– especially for the elderly and those already ill. “Social distancing” is impossible, living conditions under pre-COVID-19 circumstances are lethal, and health care accessibility is wholly inadequate. Immigrants at the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark, New Jersey, are already taking action and have begun a hunger strike in protest of their ongoing detention and are undergoing horrid conditions and treatment

they're going to force everyone back to work the first week of May or thereabouts. I'm fairly convinced of this. It's going to kill thousands of us, but we're all fucking peasants - commodities - in their eyes (*and always have been -- don't ever forget that fact)

My work just mass emailed a link to some Dr David Price guy saying its almost impossible to get it through the air and as long as you are washing your hands and not touching your face you are fine and there is no reason whatsoever to be afraid of the virus if you are doing so.

I googled him and the first link is the same article on Foxnews with no other news source picking it up. Hell yeah baby I'll be back in the office next month.

    https://www.foxnews.com/media/doctor-david-price-coronavirus
"There's also a small thought that it can be aerosolized, that it can kind of exist a little bit in the air," Price said. "The thought at this point is that you actually have to have very long sustained contact with someone. And I'm talking about over 15 to 30 minutes in an unprotected environment, meaning you're in a very closed room without any type of mask for you to get it that way."

Supreme Court already shut down Fl courts until June. I’m sure Desantis will extend the order for another 30 days as well, but then that will be it. Only thing Florida will do is possibly prevent large gatherings like concerts. Non-essential biz will open in June/July. They will open restaurants in June/July for employment reasons. Bars might be the only thing he keeps closed through August.

So California is going to use it's size and buying power to provide masks for neighboring states.

Man, it's almost like this is a good idea and could be done on a larger scale during a fucking national crisis

This thread has put some stuff in perspective. I am so fortunate to have moved to a state(WA) that has a competent and effective leader and administration. I would be losing my shit if I was in a red state with prayer as a primary policy and plan of attack

If only there were some sort of a congressional act that dealt with Defense and Production. Logistics/management/purchasing could be handled at the federal level. Oh well. Maybe next time.

Interesting case in New York: An 86-year-old woman with dementia broke coronavirus social distancing guidelines and grabbed onto another patient's IV pole in the emergency room. She was shoved, fell to the floor and later died of her injuries.

Murder, manslaughter, assault or self defense?

I also found the article on the Cornell Sun? with a correction at the very bottom: Correction, April 2, 12:07 p.m.: A previous version of this article misstated the mode of transmission for COVID-19. The disease can spread through respiratory droplets from someone who is infected and it can spread easily, not just through long, direct and sustained person-to-person contact.

The link my work sent and the one on Fox News does not include said correction.

Supposed to be going down to Sandestin for memorial day weekend. Been looking forward to it for months. Wonder if I'll still be able to go as I imagine they'll have Florida on lock down that weekend considering how many tourists usually invade the state for that weekend each year.

I think they're going to do everything in their power to force people back to work, including forcing all Federal workers to return to their places of employment, and pushing on states to open back up.

There was pressure from the CDC and the administration that led to states taking slower measures at shutting down.

You don't think that can happen in reverse?

Other countries are opening up around that time frame. I'm not a the cure can't be worse than the disease type of guy, but its unrealistic to think everyone is going to shelter in place for 18 months.
