This guy is/was one of the most talented actors in Hollywood if you ask me.

In a span of just 14 months starting in late 1993 he pivoted from Civil War Col. Joshua Chamberlain in Gettysburg, to LAPD cop Harry Temple, to dimwit dog groomer Harry Dunne.
