Vice did a story on the orthodox community in Isreal last week. It's a big problem over there as well with the community basically ignoring all social distancing orders
he didn’t say orthodox though and de Blasio has already sat idle as hate crimes against Jews have continued to increase in NYC. Making comments like this imply that the Jewish community especially is the issue. I am not saying they are right but you had thousands of people pack into a park to go watch the blue angels. You can’t call out an entire religion because one group of idiots attended a funeral.
I saw this yesterday but didn’t see it reported anywhere reliable. Have to think it’s getting close to that point though.
I havent seen a lot of your posts, so I dont know if this is a sincere analysis or an intentionally false equivocation to tacitly defend trump w whataboutism. I'll take it at face value, and point out that this is the same type of logic Trump defenders use to excuse his behavior and dog whistles. We all know Trump uses dog whistles to whip up his base in a frenzy. De Blasio does not. He's not tweeting that w a wink and a nod like Trump's intent w calling it the China virus ect. I think youre looking for something that's not there, and perhaps unknowingly creating a false equivocation And not that it should matter, but Im jewish, and had to bury my grandmother without a funeral because of COVID a couple weeks ago. I do not take offense or fear that tweet will stoke anymore anti semetic sentiment than there already is.
You’re also posting the tweet out of context considering there are three and the one prior mentions the funeral gathering in Williamsburg and the one after points out the issue with large gatherings This isn’t the first time the orthodox Jewish community held a gathering in defiance of the public health guidelines. Anyone that lives in NYC knew exactly what De Blasio was referring to there and it was far from nefarious.
https://www.cityandstateny.com/arti...rts/why-have-anti-semitic-risen-new-york.html NYC has seen a rise in anti-Semitic hate crimes since de blasio has taken office. Did he mean to incite violence? Likely not. Will it? I don’t think you can say no when he has sat idly as mayor as hate crimes have become a problem for the Jewish community in NY.
Which parents of most age groups are going to pay all that cash to not be able to attend games and tournaments.
I could see it for little leagues but not travel sports, since they shell out so much money and routinely travel with teams.
If he singled out the UOJ community he would be vilified for trying to harass a specific group anyway. ANYONE in NYC, NYS, and NJ knew exactly what he meant by saying this.
Exactly. They will attend in droves and no one will tell them to leave. The submitted plans assume an awful lot. Another example is “team members will be spaced at least seven feet apart during practice and on the sidelines”. Good luck with that Coach.
You do realize this isn’t just a problem in NYC? The rise in hate crimes is occurring across the US and a majority of the perpetrators are white, right-wing nut jobs. That isn’t a De Blasio issue, it’s a Trump issue.
Because the UOJ community is the most divisive group in NYC. These "hate crimes" have a lot to do with gentrification and UOJ expanding influence. The black and UOJ communities have had a ton of issues thru the years. I personally am against hate crime laws but I don't want to get into that debate ITT.
Nationwide you would be correct. That’s not correct when it comes to NYC and more specifically the orthodox Jewish communities in Brooklyn. A lot of these attacks have not been committed by white people. The rise in these attacks has to do with local issues that a really shitty mayor hasn’t done enough to curb. This is hardly the only issue de blasio has bungled. He’s one of the worst mayors in the country. tweeting that out when that specific community has the highest amount of hate crimes committed against them in your city is just not smart at best.
I didn’t understand a single word he said. Of course, it’s probably because I don’t speak parseltongue...
Same in Montreal. City’s sent officers to have a presence in certain neighbourhoods because they were still gathering.
Have to. The goal of the admin is to get ride of the “MSM” altogether. This would be a major step for them.
You’re talking out of your ass at this point and starting to regurgitate right wing talking points. You live in Florida, stop pretending to have any idea about NYC other than what you seem to consume on Fox News.
He might even ban their reporters from access to the US Government in retaliation. He likes to see himself on tv though, so...
I said something similar a while back. It's like he's pitching a new startup. This was the article that gave me the thought: https://www.washingtonpost.com/poli...038a16-6874-11ea-9923-57073adce27c_story.html This quote specifically: “I’m just trying to establish a faster decision cadence, so we can empower them to isolate the problems, agree on the proposed solutions and then empower the proper government department to move quickly.”
I am Jewish, I grew up in a Jewish suburb of NYC, most of my family is still there, my community was about 25% orthodox and I am very familiar with the issues going on currently in the Jewish community in NYC. The fact that someone bringing up hate crimes against Jewish people brings you to use the term “right wing talking points” to dismiss it as unimportant is a very trump way of viewing the world.
“people aren’t watching anymore because they are all back to work because I stopped the virus.” -trump in 2 weeks when 1000+ Americans are still dying every single day
Bloc and NDP did their job there. Good to have a minority government right now, as Trudeau had publicly said no such distinction between companies would be made for the upcoming bailouts.
Phase 1 50% capacity!? These people are off their fucking rocker. 50% capacity for Disney is still probably 5 times what any public place should look like.
Again, the rise in hate crimes has been attributed to nationalism, conspiracy theories, and anti-elitism in your own article you posted. Also the high profile crimes by ‘people of color’ occurred in Rockland County and Jersey City. De Blasio is not the mayor of either so maybe find a different person to blame? De Blasio and Cuomo are common targets of right-wing outlets so yes it does seem like you’re leaning into their talking points when calling him “the worst mayor in America” and how he’s bungled so many issues by quoting a tweet of his out of context.
Large groups at games is a problem, but small groups are an issue too. Let's say you have a team practice and run the antiquated drill of 1 kid per position with a batter. On a routine grounder, the pitcher, fielder and 1st baseman have all touched the ball. Do you then toss that one out of play & have the players involved sanitize their hands? How do you run the bases while meeting social distancing requirements? Keeping kids 6 feet apart on the bench means... maybe 4 kids/coaches on the bench, then the rest of the team spaced out in the area behind the backstop? Baseball seems like it would be one of the easier sports to resume at the youth level, but there are so many potential problems when you think through basic game/practice mechanics that it just doesn't appear to be practical.
Yup, but they all want their money so will drag it all out and likely even try to force it into existence.
